Just noticed a new $5.86 SKU for this enclosure on DealExtreme.

If you have an older style Xbox 360 hard drive you can remove it from its original casing and put it into this casing to use in the Slim console. Cheaper than buying a dedicated slim drive.

Bargain.
You can get a compatible WD 250GB drive from Scan for about £25

Looks identical to the one I got from dealextreme for around $8 so great deal.

Build quality is good and fits and releases perfectly from the slim. Really great if you want to convert your old 'fat' 360 hard drive to slim. Or if you want to flash the bios in a WD drive to get your drive.

good price but why bother i put my old 120gb from my elite in and it sits in fine.. bearing in mind your not really likely to move your 360 about too much dont see the point in them..

purchased. great find.

My 60GB 360 is starting to look like it might be on its way out, tempted to buy this so I can replace it with a 4GB and stick my own hard drive in (hate glossy).

its a good price... be warned tho using any other hard drive other than a 250 and you will be banned. even using a genuine ms hard drive from a fat box.

hey do you have a link for that?

I bought a 60gig off eBay for 17quid and I just unscrewed the hd n slotted it straight in. Works a treat. Was looking at one of these on eBay but don't really need one now to be honest.

They do fit in and work but it does put a bit of stress on the connector as the drives sit in the centre. You can wedge in some cardboard to take the weight off but at this price no reason not to do the job properly.

I think you'll find if you use an official XBox HDD it will be fine. You re-format it when you put it into the XBox and provide the XBox serial number so it's tied to it. It's only if you flash an unofficial drive that you'll be banned as they all report the same serial number due to the way they have to be flashed.

This post will probably be removed. I posted the one of these that comes with the HDD inside from Dealextreme and it was removed as spam because it didn't state that it was manufactured by Microsoft, and therefore regarded as counterfeit.
#16
Yip, stick with the same brand Microsoft use (Western Digital), check out the exact models they use, format to Xbox and you are not going to get banned.

They banned memory cards, they have never banned the DIY route to the HDD (which has been known for years).
Even the firmware is identical to that used ages ago (which is why old style Xbox HDDs work).

It could hardly be easier & it is perfectly safe.

Good deal! I bought one a while back for £6 from DX (took 2 1/2 months to arrive though) a drive does indeed work fine without the enclosure (just slotted in) but if you're not careful in securing the drive it'll wobble and over time potentially damage the connections.

Really no point in this. Just follow one of the many YouTube tutorials on how to crack open your old hard drive and then just put it in without one of these cases. I did, and I always move my Xbox around, from home to mates etc, and it's absolutely fine.

where did you here this? if this is the case Microsoft, I imagine, will lose xxxx's of loyal customers. No hacking involved just a bit of lateral thinking. Can't see how they could ban you for that.

Just a warning. I ordered this on the 6th Dec from Deal Extreme, they say 7 to 14 days delivery. It never arrived.
They did n't respond to any ticket or online chat request.
My PayPal dispute still has not been responded to.

This was my first experience with Deal Extreme, and it has n't been good.

er no, it was counterfeit because was made to look identical to microsoft product even though it wasn't.
if it had said was made by microsoft it still would have been counterfeit.

this is a generic case which makes no claims to be made by anyone or attempts to con anyone by looks of the product.

No one has yet been banned for having a hacked hd. If MS do start banning hacked hd's they will most likely ban fat drives in slim consoles too, as in their eyes it's also tampering. Chances are they'll never ban for hacked drives though.

Modifying or tampering with the older model HDDs to fit in the new Slim console is against the Terms of Use you agree to when using Xbox LIVE. Doing so can lead to account suspensions or console bans.

My thread about these got removed for being fake too!
Funny how this one is lasting tho!
I also ordered this before Xmas and cancelled the order last week as they still hadn't even got the item!
Think I'll go to eBay next as the delivery will be quicker!
