-----------------------

To get this price use discount code "HOLIDAY15" (15% off).

It's not an official product (is there even an official product for using a 360 controller on PC?), but fingers crossed it'll work ok.

This beats Dealextreme, who have them for $13 delivered (£8.50)
Next cheapest I could find were some ebay sellers @ £10+

As it's coming from Hong Kong I expect delivery will take ~2 weeks.

They also have them in Cyan, Pink and Blue.

I have to confess, the only reason I bought this is so I can play Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light co-op with my nephew. (just bought in the steam sale!)

Apparently the game doesn't support multiple keyboards/mice in co-op, so the next best thing seemed to be this adapter in conjunction with my idle 360 controller.

Never used BestOfferBuy.
How are they for delivery time? Same as DX, FocalPrice etc?

Voted hot btw.

Yes: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000MGVAAQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1290901033&sr=8-1

Although I would have bought this if I knew it existed when I bought the official one a few months ago.

P.S. Note that this doesn't work with the Xbox dvd remote control things you get with the sky sports packs.

If anyone is after the official its £13.99 at Play.

What does it do TehJumpingJawwa? Seriously, my son wants an Xbox for Christmas and just wondering if he needs and/or would want this? He's already got a Wii and a PS3 but of course he 'needs' an Xbox now!!!!!!!!

Thank you in advance.

This is a PC product, not a 360 product.
It allows you to use your wireless 360 controllers on your PC.

In a perfect world this wouldn't be necessary..... but M$ being M$, chose a proprietary wireless standard for connecting the xbox 360 to it's wireless controllers.

What does it do?
You plug this thing into your PC and it lets you use an Xbox 360 controller to play games on the PC. So you don't need one at all for an Xbox.

EDIT: ninja'd

Jawa, is that Lara Croft game any good? My Deal Extreme Xbox receiver's arrival is imminent so I am looking for some controller action.

Yeah, reviews i've read are quite positive. It isn't Tomb Raider, but then it isn't meant to be.

I think it can be best summed up as Alien Breed (or Alien Swarm if you like) but with puzzle elements interspersed between the action.

Steam download will be finished in about 3 minutes, so i'll have a quick bash & report back.

:edit:

Played the first level; it's got potencial, and will definitely be fun in co-op.
Definitely plays better with a controller though - the way the game requires you to jump in non-cardinal directions lends itself to an analogue game pad.

Edited By: TehJumpingJawa on Nov 28, 2010 01:39: played game.

#13
Ah I see.Thanks guys.

hmm; worked for me :/

This is what I did:

1) Added item to basket.
2) went to checkout
3) Selected paypal (as I couldn't be bothered registering an account).
4) Log into paypal, and confirm the payment method.
5) BestOfferBuy pulled my name/address etc from paypal.
6) went to BestOfferBuy checkout screen.
7) I entered a code that wasn't valid for my basket contents. ("DATA10")
8.) I entered valid "HOLIDAY15" code.
9) It proceeded with paypal checkout & payment.
10) returned to BestOfferBuy order confirmation screen
11) I received order confirmation email.

Perhaps it was my entering the unapplicable DATA10 code prior to the HOLIDAY15 code that made it work?

:edit:

Ah, i see what might be happening.
Are you stopping on the first login into paypal (step 4)?
The first login is just to get your address.
The actual charging of your account comes later; after you've had an opportunity to enter the discount code on BestOfferBuy's website.

Just ordered now and you don't need to enter the invalid code. Just go through the steps TehJumpingJawa detailed and it's fine

Great deal op. Heat added

Expect a wait of much more than two weeks from HK atm.

I had one of these non-official ones from DX, it seems to work fine so far.

Windows 7 installation (worked for me, 64-bit)

If in Windows 7, this is the process to install the gaming receiver:
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/hardware/download/download.aspx?category=Gaming

download the latest driver from Microsoft
Go to PC Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Devices and Printers
Right click on "unspecified Device"
Click on "Properties"
Click on the "Hardware" tab
Click on "Update Driver"
Click on "Browse my computer for driver software"
Click on "Let me pick from a list..."
Select the Microsoft Controller.
Then select the Xbox 360 Wireless receiver for Windows Version 2.1.0.1349 [4/8/2009]

This needs to be repeated every time it's plugged into a new USB port, if it's connected to one it's been in before it'll be setup automatically.

I liked it and its a lot better playing with an Xbox controller than using the keyboard even in single player

Nice deal, but tbh I would just use the play and charge kit to plug the controller into usb. Good if u sit far away tho

According to the interweb using the play and charge kit on a pc only serves to re-charge the battery of the controller.
The controller will still try to connect wirelessly.

Correct, from experience. There is a driver for a wireless controller connected via a play and charge kit but I think it's just so you don't get pestered for a driver every time it's plugged in.

very true, but it seems they must have went for better battery life as I find my 360 pad with proper batteries outlasts most things by a large margin, it also means you have have 4 players all with wireless headsets if you want, bluetooth only supports 7 devices, so its possible that some people would hit the limit (pretty unlikly tho)

just did a quick check and it seems in the US they are not making the official one as a standalone accessory so you have to buy it with a pad, so this looks like a pretty good idea :)
#34
Discount worked after following detailed instructions. Thanks!
#35
Good price - also available on ebay for £9.99 with free delivery. Not quite as cheap but a much faster delivery. Ended up getting mine from there.

Been meaning to buy one for a while :)

Hmm don't trust these as the ones with the Xbox 360 writing are fake. You want to find one with Microsoft written on the front and the plastic packaging. Rated Cold :(
