if you have a rubbish connection please don't bother buying this as it will make it worse and i will want to kill you if you end up in a game with me

It won't increae your speed, even if you have an N router, it will give you more range with an N router but that's all. So unless you already have an N router and need a better range don't waste your money.

Actually it will give you much faster speeds for media streaming within the home... but yes untill you have a 50mb+ internet connection coming into your home, this will make no difference to your internet speeds over the white adapter. Of course if you have neither, getting the black one is a no brainer...

has anyone measured used one of these when the Xbox is operating as a media extender?
I can get 240mbps on my laptop to my 802.11n router. Just wondered whether the Xbox would get similar with this device and so allow me to stream HD movies from laptop to XBOX to TV

Have got to stop looking at this site. Keep spending money. :)

Thanks, great price. Ordered.

Snedger,

I get 270MB speed with this wireless router on my Netgear DGN2000 and can stream mkv HD video no trouble whatsoever.

Wireless by the way.

Do your self a favour and get a couple of 200mbps homeplugs for the same sort of money and see what proper online gamming is like. Its a good price though for those that want to continue to flog the dead horse that is wifi for gamming.

and it will have less interferance because it runs at 5 ghz and most other wireless stuff runs at 2.4

You won't get anywhere near 200mbps through your broadband though.

Gotta admit a lot of these comments are a foreign language to me lol (not exactly an internet guru).

However all I do know is that I noticed a dramatic decrease in the time it took me to download demos/dlc/videos and stream video. My connection is already spot on for online gaming so cant really say whether it affects that.

Thanks for looking. :)

The major advantage (theoretically at least) is in the latency between router and device. In the case of gaming on the xbox 360 this would hopefully mean less dropouts (moments where your character freezes for a few seconds which plagues wireless g connections). Yes wireless g and n will mean basically the same download speeds but that's not the point so don't confuse people.

As alera said, homeplug kits offer the best option if you can't wire the xbox directly to the router and I would recommend the 200mbps kits. For basically about the same price (40-50 quid).

id be surprised if you are getting 300mpbs on your laptop.....likely 100mbps...id be wary of software too as some measurement software is awful

agreed, gave up with wireless a while ago...fine for internet i guess but for reliability forget it...homeplugs, netgear ones are great but depends on your wiring, being on same ring main, etc

homeplugs are in my experience much more reliable BUT imo dont use anything less than the 200mpbs quoted ones (the 85mpbs ones maybe ok though)......also be aware that though they state 200mpbs some only have 10/100mpbs network interface cards...lol...typical IT marketing...grr!!
obviously if you are gaming online you will only get a max speed of whatever your broadband download speed

my solution....

i just baught a 5meter ethernet cable off ebay for 2quid and plugged my 360 into my pc router... job done

dont see why anybody would need one of these
#19
Cause we don't all want to live in a midden with wires everywhere? And some if us don't still live with mummy and daddy so the pc is nowhere near the xbox.

Hi

Good price and I did consider getting one as i have just bought a new 'N' router but after having the odd lag and connection issues I've gone with 200mbs home plugs.

No settings, just plugged them in and I was away on my 360, cost me £55.

Just ordered a network switch so i can plug in the PS3 and Wii as well. HD streaming is fine.

HD should be fine on the wifi if you get a good signal.

Heat added for those who need one.

To get the best from it you need an 'N' router as well or you will default to 'g'.

done the same......re: the switch - i went for a gigabit switch as it was near same price as a 10/100 mpbs one and gives some vain hope of futureproofing on my home network - though isnt necessary for online, obviously

Cracking!! Bought one :)

Ordered Fri afternoon and its been delivered today. No probs at all with Coolshop, will use again.
Have installed on the Xbox and the signal is approx 30% better than the old Xbox NW adapter even with the old router. Waiting for my N router to arrive now then I'll be flying :-D
