Nice!
#3
Hot, also in dixons for same (ish) price.

I just plug my 360 into my laptop and use the wireless connection off that. Haven't run into any problems yet. Also lets me stream media to it as well. This just seems like an overpriced wireless dongle. Not voting, may be a good price if you can't plug your 360 into a nearby computer or router.

yeah, I was trying to find the easiest way to get my xbox hooked up to the net and other than a 10meter cable, the wireless dongle is around 40 quid normally.

Then read about just using Internet Connection Sharing through my laptop and I've saved a ton already :)

Wouldn't just buying a pair of homeplugs be a better option?

Then at least when your 360 is long gone you still have a usable pair of network adaptors?

Faster as well....
#10
Had one of these since I first got my 360 2.5 years ago. Never had any bother with it and has connected seamlessly to both 'G' and 'N' routers (obviously at 'G' speeds) but for XBL and streaming, that's fine. Fits perfectly snug on the box as well (if you like aesthetics, that is).

That aside - whoever discovered this Coolshop place should be well repped, it's superb. One of the fastest e-tailers I've used of late.

yes, but with that option, don't you need to have the laptop powered on & consuming unnecessary power?

chelskii
No more expensive than most PC usb wireless adaptors with "equivalent" spec.
If you need one this is a good price.

^ i agree - this adapter supports IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, so its gonna be good for everything inc. streaming media.

I agree, £41.99, and you can use them anywhere, not just your xbox360. Plus they'll be more reliable than a wireless connection.

Assume by "equivelant spec" you are referring to the fact its dual band. Even if you take that into consideration I would say you can pickup branded PC ones cheaper. For example the following Linsys one is a/b/g/n (higher spec) @ £27

http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?origin=gbase16.4&prodID=B144089

If you don't need 802.11a, which I would imagine would be most people outside the US you can pickup b/g adapters for under a tenner now and b/g/n for not much more.

Its only going to operate on one of those at a time, therefore its not going to be any better at streaming media simply by virtue of being dual band.

If you operate it on b/g its going to be no better then most other b/g adapters out there. If you operate it on 802.11a you might fare better, since your less likely to be competing with other devices on that band. But the corollary of that statement is that most users are less likely to have an 802.11a capable access point.

The 2.4G band is the one found predominantly in our market, 802.11a access points are pretty thin on the ground these days.

BTW I'm not having a pop at MS here. They aren't the only ones who controll the peripheral market, other console manufacturers, AV equipment manufacturerst and even phone manufacturers (Apple) do that. I'm just saying that the consumer rarely gets best value in that scenario and this is just another of those cases.

Of course even if the access point is 802.11a compatible you will also need to make sure that all the other wireless devices that use your network are also 802.11a compatible

Squabbling aside, it's a good deal if the situation your in warrants it. Is this shop trustworthy?
#18
Great price if you really want one, i've not seen these drop in price at all in years, but still way too much for me ! Should have it built in.

^ agreed,

but you could argue that the 360 would not be in the position it's in now if it had many features built-in from the start.

Dont think its an argument most would disagree with.

Although several years down the liine its dissapointing even the more expensive SKU's don't offer built in wifi.

Yeah I need to get one too cause my wee lads is broken - ill give yah £15 LOL Will pay through paypal gift if you wish??
#27
Can usually get these for cheaper at dealextreme, althought the price flucuates...mine cost £12.00 new there...but that was when the pound was stronger againts the dollar.

Although on my other 360 I just used a Forna, there free and work with only a little bit of flashing.
#28
What's a Forna?
#29
Deal extreme were out of stock so I just bought one from here.
#30
la forna are just a brand of very small and simple wireless access points, they gave 20million away for free and you can normally pick them up for less than a fiver on forums like these.

There one of the few wireless acess points that work with xbox 360s and they arnt much bigger than the offical adapter and cost much much less!
#31
Awesome find heat and rep added. Just ordered mine :)

To help people out it's "La Fonera"

Last I checked it was quite fiddly to start the firmware flashing process off? Has someone discovered an easier method. I might get mine out to have a play :-D

Mine turned up this morning. Good website.
