That is the case - but also these rumours have slashed the share price and made it more attractive for a hostile takeover. So Im betting someone will buy the whole group. Its only worth about 18 million now! If I won Euromillions Id be tempted. Cant do much of a worse job than current owners have! :whistling:

"free wireless controller" do wired controllers even exist on "next gen" consoles? Its like saying "with free plug"..

Which is essential given the reliability of the 360.

Is there any real advantage in buying the elite - other than the 120gb hard drive ?

It comes with the (expensive) official HDMI lead packed-in = which had a 5.1 digital audio connector, um.......looks better.......and erm I ordered one yesterday lol:oops:

Go for it!

Thats a rare picture of an XBox with 4 solid green LED's!! Seriously good deal though if I can only find the voucher!
#14
You can still buy wired 360 controllers, albeit not very readily. My local game were packing a wired controller with a 360 bundle last Christmas. The original Core SKU was bundled with a wired controller instead of wireless.

There really is no issue buying from Woolies, some consortium or other will snap the chain up sooner rather than later, and in any case, if you're outside of the 28 day faulty returns period it's easier to deal with MS direct for any warranty faults rather than the store you bought it from.

Whats rare about it? Doesnt the xbox do that then? Or is it a reference to red ring of death?

Woolies with RROD always direct you to MS anyway. They are ***** like that!

i held off buying an xbox last week when all the good deals were about as there was supposed to be a price war with them. doesnt look like there has been anybody in the know? anticipate there will be one before xmas?

This is BEFORE the 12 month store warranty is up I take it? If not then it isn't their problem and you should realise that.
#21
my woolies says this is £129 and the 2 games+ controller is £100? How do you do it, just show them the ticket i printed out and all the console (arcade) + bundle is £117???

If I have a warranty issue I'm more than happy to go to the manufacturer as opposed to the retailer.

The Sale of Goods Act would disagree with you.

That sales of goods act is flakey at best I'm afraid - stores are NOT legally obligated to replace faulty goods after a 12 month period.

There are deals that can be done in those situations (agreements with creditors etc). Besides - just having a new owner will probably double the share price anyway.
#27
can u still get the 60gb with the 2 games for 149.99??

Yes, one can do a lot worse than the current owners. If anyone could have done better they would have been put on the throne with £xm/yr of salary to steer the Kingfisher Group many moon's ago. They could have got rid of their store 3 years ago and gone completely on-line and/or turned into another Argos like chain and kill off Argos with their massive profits from the entertainment arm distributing media as Argos. The store part is worth just £1 to buy all the store but you have to take on the nearly £400m of debt plus that you have to shrink the entire national chain to a small size.

Yep Woolies have been doing this for years. I'm surprised it's not widely known by now:

Just thought I'd mention that I just got the Elite for £203.49 using this deal. Now to trade in the games, extra controller and my old console and the whole thing should have cost me less than £100. So great deal!

To be honest though, i've read the Sale of Goods Act and I can't see any reason why they have to replace it on the spot (I had to return a 360 recently so read up on it)
The Sale of Goods Act says the the retailer is quite within their rights to return the goods to a suitable repair site if it is not possible to repair on the spot (which obviously it isn't)

The trader can refuse to agree to either of these remedies if it is disproportionate in comparison to the other remedies. For example, if you ask a trader to replace a washing machine then he would be entitled to turn down your request and offer a repair instead.

However, the repair or replacement must be carried out within a reasonable time and without causing significant inconvenience to the consumer.

It would be difficult to prove being without a console for 2 weeks would be a 'significant inconvienience" ! The retailer should therefore not be sending consumers away with "contact microsoft" it should actually be doing it for you, that is the only problem I can see with people getting fobbed off.

That's as I understand it anyway if anyone else can suggest a reasonable 'significant inconvienience' then please suggest some!
I can think of exceptional circumstances mind say you were only in the country for another few days, it's also not ideal that you're paying for Xbox Live whilst it's away being repaired.

I was lucky and took mine back to Curries who, after recreating the fault, replaced it without any problems :-)
#32
Thanks for that OFI. So in my case they should have at least offered to arrange the repair themselves.

Many retailers will happily offer an exchange for a new unit within the first year of purchase, even if they are not obliged to. I believe supermarkets, GAME, and Gamestation do this, and perhaps the Dixons Store Group.

In the future I'll enquire before purchasing. I certainly won't use Woolies again but the way things are going it looks like no one will be

Buy with a credit card and get section 75 cover if it is over £100.

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases .

Some local Woolworths stores still have the 60gb in stock I bought one last week in Melksham with the two games and wrless controller for £149 using the 10%/20% voucher.
