Me and my mate went into Asda Living at Lakeside today and the deal was new Xbox plus 1 game from either: Splinter Cell Conviction, Prince of Persia, International Cricket or Alan Wake for £199.99 but when it went through the till it came to £184.03! The woman then said sorry, I'll have to charge you this price I'm afraid in a sarcastic tone haha

We checked Currys, Argos, Game and Comet, this was the cheapest deal by far even @ £199.99, let alone £184.03!

got mine for this price the other night, console scanned at £189.99 on its own and they didn't know of any bundle offers, i asked if they would scan splinter cell for me , £25 on its own, just to check and it came down to this price. receipt says wii and 1 game offer - £29.97 so not sure what's going on there but i wasn't going to question it.

Not a bad price, but I can't help but think why does anyone need a 250GB Xbox 360? I know it's Microsoft pushing it down consumers throats, but it just seems very unecessary. I am an Xbox 360 owner by the way, a 20GB hard drive owner at that. I'd like a 60GB hard drive but I'm in no rush as I can still easily fit all the games and content onto my 20GB hard drive. It's the Demos that take up the most space, but obviously deleting the terrible ones is easy enough.

True for me as well, although there is a school of thought out there which advises that you copy all of your games onto the hard drive and load/play them from there to decrease load times and save wear and tear on your discs and drive.

purchased one from tesco direct last week cost me £185.99 with double club cards plus a extra thousand wich equals a tenner when you cash them in a later date think the offer has finished now tho

Not bad!!

Might go for this if I ever get round to selling my elite and spare non hdmi 60GB xbox.

That's exactly what my mate got. 2 codes say Xbox but then underneath it said Wii & 1 game offer.

Demos? Which you play like, once, twice, make your mind up then delete em as you'll never play them again?
Game installs? Installing them doesn't make much difference to load times. Infact, some games it actually slows it down!
DLC? Never really that big. Even the biggest DLC is only ever a hundred or so MB.
Arcade Titles? Again, Not really that big. The largest are 500mb ish, and there are very few worth having at this size. Most aren't even 50mb-100mb.
Your entire music library? rubbish. Music can't be copied onto your 360 hard drive - the only way to get music stored onto your 360 HD is to rip your CD's to it - and you can get stuffed if you think I'm going to burn 5000 CD's of my existing MP3 collection, then rip them all to my 360 when I can just copy em direct to a NAS and stream them from there.
Xbox media centre? Do you even know what you're talking about now? I'm not even wasting my time answering that.

I too, don't see the point in 250gb hard drives when they're crippled by not allowing us to copy our existing mp3's/divx's/wmv's to them. Until they do, I see no reason whatsoever to need any more than 60GB.

My 20GB (14GB usable) still has 7GB free, and thats with 4GB taken up by Forza3. And I have loads of arcade games, game saves, DLC etc.

+1 - thats why the PS3 is a more functional media box

I actually completely agree. Its the single thing that I much, much prefer on my PS3 over my 360. Although I just run a NAS loaded with my mp3's/divx's that connects to both 360 and PS3 anyway so doesn't affect me a huge amount.

Still, wish they'd hurry up and include MKV support in either of them.

Just because you dont use the full 250gig doesnt mean others dont

I have over 60gig of dlc alone
and install all of my games which i have around 300 dvd based games
i could use 1tb quite easliy
#17
I have 120GB and I use at least half of it with game installs. I cannot bear the noise of the console with the disc spinning and for the plonkers who say just turn the TV up - well its a bit difficult to do that if you play late at night when people are sleeping.

I claim ****. Even if by some odd miracle it isn't, I still win as you have a very serious addiction that you need counselling for. Epic fail, gg.

Oh, and if you 'install all of your games, which you have around 300' thats actually already around 1.8TB. Do you already have eight 250gb hard drives for your 360 as well then, that you have labelled up with all the games you have installed on them?

You can reply if you want, but you'll only dig your hole even deeper.

True, that is slightly annoying, however the new console's drive is very very quiet, nothing like the old versions jet engine. Sound is now no longer an issue.

I didn't say they did, however they are still facts. The only theretical use of space on 360 hard drives are preinstalling games (The rest only have very small/non requirements that you'll never need a large hard drive for). And that is not a particularly useful thing to do, seeing as you a) still need the discs to run them, b) provides very very little performance benefit (sometimes detriment) and c) on the new consoles, provides very little (inaudiable) reduction in noise.

I've got the 20Gb one also. Though have to say that I could probably make use of a larger disc size. I've got game add ons that can be very big. For example, there are 4 or 5 add on packs for Fallout 3 which I believe come close to 1Gb each. I now have to be careful about what DLC I get (much of it can be quite a lot larger than you mentioned), so I can see how for some that want other media a 60Gb disc may be pushing it. Sure a 250Gb disc a little bit of overkill for most users, but then hard discs usually are - you don't want to be struggling to fit stuff on! That said, I certainly wouldn't be replacing mine just for a bigger hard drive - just worrying about getting RROD (again) now it's out of warranty.

only halo 3 suffers from downloading to hdd... and its only a slight longer loading time. still worth downloading to hdd imo

i like to have around 2 gig of music music on there and intall all my games... my 60 gig already full up and i still have to play some of my games off the disc

2gb is the size limit for xbla games... on top of that u got demo's

considering u now get 250gb for the same price as the old (and no longer available) 120gb... my question is, why are u so mad?

nobody knows what xbox 360 has in store for us in the future with the new dashboard update coming up... 250gb is a hassle free solution for any possible future changes

Why would you install ALL your games when you still need to insert the disc for it to work? Unless you modded it or something which if so - shame on you.

running games of hdd instead of disc... yep you still need the disc in, but after the initial spin up to do the disc check it doesn't spin it up again and therefore a lot less noise, and dvd drives are much more likely to start having problems than the hdd so any reducation in their use is going to prolong their life (wear and tear).

as for load times, there isn't much to be gained there.

disc condition - possibly... not as much spinning, but you can't just leave them in their case so still minimal benefit there.

not sure about elec.

but it's enough for me that they are quieter than the old ones.

I never had an old one, so for me it was the choice between a 4GB one (too small), an old 120GB one (noisy) or the new slim one. I decided it might as well be the new slim one.

250 gb drives are cheaper than 20 or 60.
#35
why would you buy an old xbox model when you could buy the slim for just a few quid more? it makes no sense.
#36
Great deal, not sure why people are moaning about a larger hard drive being included.. This is the same price as the old Xbox360 Elite. A better quieter console, with twice as much hard drive space included for the same price. I guess some people aren't happy unless they moaning about something...

If you have a a problem with having a large hard drive?! Get the other model which comes with only 4GB included... But im sure they will say its to small, and be happy cos they got something else to moan about...
