Was in the Enfield Comet branch today and was looking for a Nintendo DS when I saw this label, next to a white xbox. I didnt ask anyone as the core models are so old but just took a photo, thought it may be useful to someone in here if they are still after a core.

The next labels were Elite and Pro.

Good price though, voted hot but I expect the xbox to come down to this for the arcade alone soon.

It's likely they are re-using old labels, there's been no cores or pro's around for yonks. If they really are cores and pro's, avoid like the plague... but if it's the Arcade then that's a damn fine deal :-)

Not strictly true, all 2008 models came with a BenQ or Lite-on drives which need to be changed for samsung drives in order to flash the console, usually at the cost of around £60.

Older pre 2008 consoles can be flashed straight out of the box for around £30.

You may want to read that link yourself before posting in future, i quote.....

The purpose of this tutorial is to summarize all equipment and handling
necessary for the extraction of the dvd key and the spoof identification from the lite-on dvd drive.
With that, you will be able to replace your lite-on drive which is not yet flashable

And are easy to fix yourself, have someone else fix, or, as a last resort, you can send them to Microsoft because they'll still be covered under a one year general manufacurer's warranty and three years guarantee against the three red lights from date of purchase. Sure, it's hassle, but I'd be very surprised if any 360 with the older chipsets are still for sale in stores.

Benq drives have never had to be replaced - they've been flashable for ages, the procedure is virtually identical to Samsung drives. Liteon drives are now fully flashable (as of Dec 23rd) with the new iXtreme 1.5 firmware - although you will need a device to enable reading/writing, which can either be homemade or bought for around £10.

And, personally, I've only ever charged £10 to flash consoles for people. If you've ever paid £30 then either you were ripped off or I should start asking for more!

As the basic low end model does not have a hard disk upgrade option include previously posted 20gb hd for £20. Is it feasible to buy a 16gb usb pen for £17 pounds on play.com and use this a a flash memory option?

Long and the short is NO.
you have to either use an Xbox Hard drive or an Xbox Memory Unit.

if you get an Arcade you can get a free 512mb Memory card, or pay £20ish for a recon 20gb hard Disk from Microsoft.

hope this helps :)

I was in the Enfield store the other day and saw this. They didnt have any stock and there probably isnt any stock anywhere else.
#30
what are the "must" add-ons for this?

For the old Core model - a warranty. I'd not touch on even for that price at the Arcade, for £129 offers games, a wireless remote, hdmi and the chance it won't die as quick.

Otherwise you may want a HDD, charge pack for the joypad, another joypad and a headset.
#32
Brilliant!

More posts on this thread about the tampering of a console than the deal itself.

My nice new shiny xbox is very loud, I thought that was a feature of the old ones? :?
