I work for a national Newspaper and gamestation are placing an ad in tomorrow's Daily Star which is advertising the above item. I have checked online but at the mo they are sold out so unless they get more instock this deal is only available instore....

I know all about the format being dead but at this price and with a back catologue of over 400 movies available surely it's worth a punt. Certain films are still only available on hd so it makes it even more of a deal to buy something which is affordable and not going to break the bank. Hd dvd movies are now cheaper than standard dvd and even a packet of fags.

The Xbox 360 HD DVD Player offers up to six times higher resolution than DVD, and following the Autumn 2006 console update, all Xbox 360 consoles have the ability to output native resolution 1080p games and movies. Users can enjoy blockbuster HD DVD releases, with tons of great titles available by the holidays from major movie studios including HBO, Paramount Pictures, StudioCanal, Universal Studios, New Line Entertainment and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.

A man on the Inside. GENIUS!!
#2
Do you know what the films it comes with are?
#3
Wonder if its new stock or 2nd user

My local Gamestation was advertising bundle offers of Xbox 360 + 2 films last week. Not at this price obviously!

They were £39.99 for a used one with two films.

The bizarre thing is, that branch doesn't actually stock any films..... :whistling:
#5
they were advertising a few films. Manily the ones which are available for £4.99 at hmv and play
#6
Surely there must be more HD-DVD players in homes around the world than Blu-Ray?? I realise that the format is dead but.........
#7
You should find that the stores supporting this offer have received more HD DVD player and film stock but you would not have seen it on the shelves because the offer does not start until today. The stock is new.

I go into my local store a fair bit and they had a massive pile of movies yesterday that they were pricing, and earlier in the week one of them complained to me when we were talking that they'd been sent a ton of the players.

I'm tempted, but it seems false economy because, cheap or not, it is still dead. Voted hot because value wise its good.

Got the Daily Star, and yep on page 23;

£24.99 HD DVD Drove + Any 2 HD DVDS**

** Priced at £7.99 each. Offer does not include pre-owned hd-dvd's.

As for it being a dead format..... True... but you can't deny it has its advantages as well. I'll still be getting a PS3 for the blu-ray later in the year, but at this price i may as well get one

Can I ask a really dense question :)

If I got a HD LCD TV, would I need a HD dvd player to play HD dvd's to make the most of the HD TV?
#10
Yes - or obviously this XBox360 bargain.

Other option is to connect your PC of course (depending on your graphics card and outputs), and download HD content from your 'usual' sources :)

Broadcast HD TV is a bit of a joke at the moment...Sky HD costs an extra £10 a month plus the cost of the box, and gives you around 10 HD channels, most of which just show upscaled old stuff. Sky Sports is probably the best HD channel (only for live games) and on Virgin, you can only get BBC HD, which runs for about 6 hours a day.

I always come and point out that HD-DVD is dead, and usually get into major rows with people.

Its true, it is dead, and I don't see the point in throwing money away (you will eventually give up on it, and end up having to rebuy films in my opinion).

However, even i have to agree with this one, £24.99 is mental if you already have an xbox!)

Ideally, yes. This'll also upscale your standard DVD'd to a better resolution :) (can of worms opened about the quality of the upscaling? :P)

Got this deal yesterday in Gamestation it was any two 7.99 Hd DVD, which most of there film where anyway, I posted it last night on the Gamestation HD DVD thread! The xbox 360 upscales standard dvds through hdmi & vga on its own without this drive , so I wouldnt buy this for upscaling standard dvds as theres no point.

Does anyone know if this comes with an official Xbox media remote ???

I'm sure when I enquired about the price of these in Gamestation recently they were chucking in a ****** little mini remote :(

One of the full sized offical ones mate ??

13 in stock in Leeds.
#18
I must admit, I wasn't tempted at all - but at this price, it seems nuts not to go for it. HD DVD discs will be around for at least another 2+ years, more than enough time to get, say, your fave films.

Yeah the full size media remote

the hd drive doesnt do any upscaling, the 360 does that anyway on its own but only via vga or hdmi

as I have an old pre hdmi xbox 360, is it worth me getting this as I won't be able to get the 1080p benefits despite having a full HD TV as it only accept this via a HDMI input.

Make sense?

It will still look good at 720p unless you sit with your face against the screen. I have an old premium connected via VGA to my 1080p Sony 40v3000 (VGA on v3000 only supports 720p) and i'll still be trying for one.

£25 for a player with two films is so low that even with the risk of it not working out it's still worth it. I spent £130 on a PopcornHour just to watch downloaded episodes of Lost in HD so this is a bargain.

the other thing of course if if you plan to go multi format in the future it is an amazing deal.

i bagged my hddvd drive for £35 with 6 films 2nd hand. have since bagged over 30 movies for on average £6 each. not dead money as i use it on my pc media centre. eventually i will just upgrade to a combo bluray / HD player and i will have a huge collection of really cheap hi def films. American gangster on launch for £5.60 delivered, not to meantion a load of others cheaper than their sd counterparts.

bargain :)

$25 has got to be worth it to watch transformers and megan fox in hd
#28
oh and its £129.99 at play
#29
@jurassicjim

If there's none in Harrogate, you can always get the 36 bus into Leeds and get one from the store in Kirkgate! Worth the £4 return fare, surely?!

Just rang the redditch store and they haven't got any :(

Thanks anyway OP

Just checked on line and out of stock but saw this " Get a HD DVD Drive and any 3 selected HD DVD's for only £29.99 " on the site so sounds an even better offer.

Yeah i have the same problem 1080p TV but my component input only supports 720p!
Anybody know of any cheap Component to HDMI adapter or converter? I have had a quick look but the cheapest i can find is about £30, so a lot more than the bloody player!

Good offer, but no HD-DVD drives in stock online, so it might as well be any price!

It is a good offer but not much use when the hd drive is out of stock
#39
Isn't HD-DVD a dead format though?

Fantastic price, 'phoned my local GS, they have 10+ in stock & lots of films so hoping they're not sold out by the morning as I could do with a backup unit, might even hook it up to the PC.

Or, it might transpire that my £99 PC World unit has developed a fault so will have to be returned at some point for a full refund :whistling:

PS: Heat & Rep added!
