they be giving them away soon
everyone knows HD DVD is dying a slow death

Voted cold as this HD player is incredibly noisy as it runs with the Xbox 360 and it blew up my Xbox 360 also as it requires a lot of processing to run evidently and if you have an older Xbox360, they don't need an excuse to go bang so, don't buy it would be my advise, especially as you can get a stand alone HDD player for £120 now from Amazon & Play.

How long before some says HD-DVD is dead or Blu ray is the future?
Oh, hold on, someone got in there first.

Why on earth are you here? You contribute absolutely zero. What a waste of skin

Anyway, back on topic... Good Deal!

Mine ran quite and had no problem with it.

That's a bit harsh. This site is starting to attract people like you who are just down right rude. What gives you the right to slag off someone in that manner?!!!

Because I, and countless others are fed up of people hikacking deals, when they have nothing useful to say.

If it was a genuine comment I wouldn't mind, but every single deal has these morans derailing them.

And thats fair enough, but if I was considering buying this hd player and then found out that it had blown-up someones 360 which resulted in them having to buy another 360 for £260 and another HD playerfor £120 then I would want to know about it before I bought it.

Simply advising people that in my opinion, the HD player on the 360 is not a good HD player in the first place, it can be noisy and you can get a standalone player that comes with the same 5 free dvd's choices as this one does plus two more in 300 & Bourne supremacy as I did last week on this site. I think it's sold-out now at play where I purchased a Toshiba one but i'm sure they are out there if you look hard enough but the free dvd's does run out on the 31 January.

I suppose if you look at it as being 5 HD dvd's for £90 it isn't that bad of a deal with a free xbox 360 hd player thrown in but the dvd's on offer don't pull up any trees.

just my opinion but when the american 5 free hd dvd offer ran out they extended it but changed the films
so they might do it with the uk too

oh and by the way my hd dvd drive is silent and as for blowing up your 360 i highly doubt it was anything to do with the drive and more to do with the 360

everyone one i know who has 1 loves it and has no problems
#11
While the current offer of 5 free discs ends tomorrow, I would be surprised if they didn't have a new deal in its place quite soon if they want to keep people interested in the format.
#12
Wouldn't bother getting one to be honest...
#13
My 360 and addon drive both run noisy and hot. 360s are also notoriously unreliable and whilst you can't say for certain that playing HD-DVDs on them will make them more unreliable, I can't see it helping.

My opinion is that the EP-30 for £30 more and 2 extra films is a much better bet. Then if your 360 breaks, you can still watch your HD-DVDs instead of playing games.

yeah the EP30 is probably better value but this is the best value xbox 360 hddvd drive.

You may consider this is derailing a deal post but the posters comments are not unwarranted and should serve as a potential warning to anyone thinking of buying one to at least consider the alternatives. So, immaterial of what they have posted elsewhere before, that post was of more use than yours.

Good deal if you already have a 360 and a HDTV and are that fussed about HD films.

A bit harsh with the waste of skin bit, but in principle spot on... anyone who is looking to buy one of these should be well aware of the situation (the battle is far far far from over, I've got both so don't care btw!), so why slate one format with over 50% of their posts? It doesn't help people looking at the deal.
#18
Don't forget these can also be used with a PC, if that is of interest to anyone.
banned#19
yeah got one for my 360 but was also thinking of (finally) getting myself a new pc and getting a blu-ray drive for it - I take it i could just hook up the hddvd drive via usb and it would be be recognised??
#20
KK i think the whole argument about hd and blu ray is the fact that some retailers are only stocking blu ray films, such as woolworths (not the end of world). There is also the fact that warner bros are now only going to do blu ray films which is big loss to hd. Though it is still early days and the fact this is a good price for a hd dvd for the xbox is why it should be hot. Gamestation do a second hand version for £69.99 but i don't know if you get the free hd dvds?

Blu-ray fanny by the looks of it :whistling:

Back to the deal, pretty good but the standlone EP30 is probably a better bet overall. Though this drive can actually be used attached to a PC as well.

Totally agree with PennyPincher - time after time these deals turn into "HD DVD is dying" arguments. If you want a discussion about HD DVD versus BluRay then please start one in the Misc forum...........

This thread is about discussing this deal.

IMO - I think the Tosh is better value as its standalone and you get 2 extra HD DVDs.........but this is an excellent deal for those looking for the 360 HD DVD player......voting hot.
#23
This HD-DVD thing could get interesting. They may adopt a strategy of going REALLY cheap to the point where a player is like £25 and discs are a fiver. I reckon it could have legs if production gets cheaper and the smaller studios start to put things out, and/or the porn industry climb on board. Maybe perhaps possibly..?

You WILL NOT get 5 free HD-DVDs. You have to post the application - and be postmarked - by tomorrow. So how are you going to do that if it's delivered even on Friday. Also; I've been waiting weeks for 5 to come through...how long do they take?
#25
I thought it had to be purchased by and of Jan, the applications can still be recieved by the end of Feb.

Yep:

Complete this form and mail it with the following:
–The original barcode located on the outside of the Xbox 360 HD DVD player package.
– Original or copy of cash register receipt for the player purchased between 1/10/07
and 31/01/08 with the purchase date and price clearly circled.

im entitled to my opinion and think its a bad deal, HD dvd is dying, so why pay £90 for a product that will have no support. imo its a waste of money

i brought both the 360 add on hd drive (not noisy) and the toshiba ep30, i sent off for my films in the middle of december and got both lots this week so 4-5 weeks roughly and got all the ones i ticked. Just made sure i used mine and the parents address to make sure i got them all.

will buy a blu ray player when they sort this format firmware stuff out... don't want a ps3 as not impressed with games out for it up to yet.. not into this blu-red war ..i just enjoy good films whatever they are played on.

HD DVD is on death's door. Blu-Ray's just about got the format war won. Granted, a cheaper price plus 5 free HD DVD's is good for any product but i think in this case, anyone buying this is only costing themselves money in the long run.
#32
c'mon, with all the bad press HD-DVD is getting about losing the format war, there will be a 'fire sale' soon enough. I'd wait and see what the prices are like in 4-6 weeks, especially if toshiba admits defeat.

agreed, cant see y ppl are defending a lame duck, there maybe a few exclusives on HD DVD, but its not worth paying nearly £100 for a dead format.
prices will be on the floor within 2 months imo

Personally I think HD DVD has got it won, it plays DVD's, you can pick them up under £100, and they come with 5-7 free movies (which pretty much pay of the hardware costs straight away)

If it dies, you're left with a huge selection of cheap films, and a really good DVD upscaler. I fail to see how it's a waste of money.

Win/Win situation

Everyone here knows about HD DVD and Blueray. There is no need to post 'imo HD DVD is dead imo lolz imo' in every HD DVD related thread, 10 times.

People are here for the cheapest prices of particular products. They don't give 50pence what any of us think. I'm sure if anyone was about to spend money on either of the HD formats, then they'd research it on he relevant websites/magazines. Not make the choice based on a forums preference.

Damn, I cant stand this HD DVD is dieing, it sucks. Paramount doing this, universal doing that, Blu-Ray fricken rocks!, I love my own opinions!...... WHO CARES!! For the love of God, Shut up! no?

Let someone list a post, and you can vote Hot or Cold as you wish. It is not a competition of whats better or whats going to be here in 5 years, nobody cares. The Post is to help people thinking of buying the product and show them a good deal.

Also.. why are people like you in these deals if you have no other motive than to come in and bash the product and are not interest in buying it?
Bottom line... get a life nobody cares (we have all read the same gash a 1000 times)

I bought one last Easter and hooked it up to my silent PC and damn was that thing noisy and that was without an Xbox 360 making its infernal racket as well. Hopefully they may have improved it by now as I couldn’t see how an external optical drive needed to be so noisy.
I’d much rather buy a stand-alone player for a bit more cash if I was in the market again.

Two wrongs don't make a right. If these Blue Ray comments you speak of hurt that much, then why don't you contact the people who made them instead of turning the rest of the deals on this site into an absolutely pointless pissing contest.

I haven't bought a defunked system. Hardware is still being pumped out of the factories, and I'm still watching DVD and HD DVDs.

BlueRay offers me nothing HD DVD doesn't already, and even works out more expensive. So why on earth would I spend a futher £250+ on a BlueRay player, that could end up as a paper weight in a few years time?

Anyway stop derailing the thread, go make a topic in the misc forum if there isn't already.
