this going to be any good/?
#3
Do you pay full amount when reserving or a token amount of £10?
#4

#5
have you order it and received the vouchers. it says something about having to collect your reserved items between 27th and 31 oct to qualify?

Depends on the support it gets. No add-on to a console has ever done well due to the comparitively tiny installation base. This thing being so expensive will be a really tough sell.

Please forgive my ignorance but why the hell is this priced at £124.99?
Anyone voting this hot is insane and has too much money!

I am not a PS3 fanboy but doesn't the PS Move do the same thing for a fraction of the price?

This unit costs almost the same as the console itself which is a bloody disgrace.
#8
definitely the best motion sensing gaming accesory out there (i.e. better than the wii or PS3 move) but still, it's about £60 too expensive even at this price.

Move does a "wii" where it tracks 1 point on the thing you hold. Kinect is full body tracking so it's not the same and still worth more (but not £120)

And this is based on??

if it was about £40, i might consider. too expensive for an accessory

personally I not interested in Kinect at this price, probably pick one up eventuallty though when they are cheaper as I think it has great potential, I do however own move and it is very accurate but im not impressed with the selection of games yet.

The thing is you cant really compare kinect and move they are totally different, this uses no controllers, comes with a game for £125 can accomadate up to 4 players ( I think this has been confirmed? although you will probably need an aircraft carrier as a living room to accomodate it !) PS3 move you need the controller per person sometimes 2, then there is the navigation controller for games like resident evil 5, so yes for one person ps3 move is cheaper but can soon become more expensive than kinect regarding multiplayer games, which if you think about it is most of the launch titles for both motion devices!

Kinect costs about £100 to produce according to this article, add on shipping/tax/retail profit margin and I very much doubt microsoft is making a lot of money on these.

Kinect production cost

Like games consoles the companies are rarely making a profit on the unit itself but the games that accompany it. Really if you're questioning value you should be looking at the shovelware that is inevitably going to be pushed out in the wake of the release, i.e 90% of what comes out on the wii/ds. I imagine Kinect is a pretty awesome bit of hardware but I'm only interested if it's implemented in some actual games.

Agreed how do you know? Microsoft has left it very late to hand out kinect for review, apparently according to press because they are worried that negative reviews could affect sales. I hope it is all they promise as it could be great, we will see, untill I have used one I will reserve judgement.

People compare this to the move, but if you bought the ball controller, plus the little nunchuck thing for 4 players, then its way more expansive than kinect, for the same 4 person game play...

Thanks - ordered along with the Kinect Sports... if it's no good (the Wii got sold not so long ago), I'm sure there will be someone gullible enough to buy it on ebay for more than it's cost me!

Move is far more advanced than a wii controller, the camera (ps3 eye) can track your body also, for example in the upcoming title Fight Lights out it detects when you duck down and you can also dodge punches as it tracks your head movement. The move controller can also detect depth which the wii controller can not, they all have there pros and cons just have to wait and see if microsoft deliver on there promises, fingers crossed they do ;)

1. Not many people will need 4 players, a lot would use 1 or 2, therefore being cheaper than the Kinect.

2. Kinect can only fully track 2 people at a time (Not to mention the other crazy requirements)

Whoa people, hold up. Lets not make this another 360 vs ps3 thread. I said what i said coz i have used all 3 (wii, ps3 and kinect). My bro works in a toy shop and they got kinect in for a few days for the staff to use and get the hang of so they could make informed sales and he got me in to have a go of it.
#21
Ps3 is way more expensive than the 360 to begin with!!
#22
On ebay, these for preorder are going for £180+ and people are bidding on them.

I really want one of these but I genuinely can't understand why this is considered such a hot deal.

The two £10 vouchers can only be used on-line, can not be used during the same period and unless you're spending a decent amount you'll pay delivery on each of these two purchases which effectively gobbles up half of this 'gain'.
#24
Do Argos take payment before dispatch?
#25
As far as I know Argos take payment straight away
#26
I can see Kinect becoming a major flop. It sounds quite good on paper but I can see all sorts of technical issues with it, it's too expensive and the games look ****. Not a good start.

Still, I would genuinely love to be proved wrong.....

why do people always leave comments on finds here? It's not a do you think this or that about something or i think it's not worth it because i'm right and you are wrong and i wouldn't pay that much for this etc. Someone found a deal for a kinect thats £5 cheaper than most places, they have them available for release date delivery and as a bonus you get £20 of vouchers FREE with it. I for one think this is a good deal and thank the op for posting this as it saves me trawling the net to find it and have ordered one (it does take the money straight away)
#29
It's a great idea but at that price I'm really not sure if its going to be a hit. The support really needs to be there on day 1 or it could really struggle.

(but i did vote hot as it appears to be the best deal for it)

I'm a PS3 fan but i've been very impressed with Kinect. I feel the price is fair for what you're buying.
#31
Thanks OP.
One of the only places now offering delivery on launch date, 3% / £3.75 back via Quidco, 5% / £6.24 back for paying on my Utility Warehouse debit card and £20 worth of vouchers means I have paid just £95 for this - Well Pleased.
#32
You can buy a 360 for this price. Or a Wii.

It's a glorified webcam, but it's a good price compared to the RRP.
1 Like #33
not a glorified webcam; it is a very sophisticated imaging sensor device with infrared support
#34
Ok, voted hot based on the fact it's a good price for this on the market at the moment but to get anywhere near justifying the cost of this thing, it needs a killer app and it hasn't got one. If it was £40 or less then maybe i'd consider it but £130 odd quid is far too much for a console add on (Sega 32X anyone?)

Also, I can think of too many scenarios that will cause this thing to not work properly. The demos i've seen have been far from convincing about it's use in the real world.
#35
do i need to buy this for black ops?
#36
After the hassle I have had with the 3 for 2 on toys with argos online. I wouldnt trust them with this pre-order!!
#37
I have spoken to some people who have tried Kinect and they say it is the business. To compare the Kinect to either the Wii or PS Move is just wrong. Kinect technically kills Move, but its all about the software that Microsoft release.

Granted, the launch titles look like the Wii a few years back, but I reckon within 1 year there will be some really decent titles.

And with GAME announcing they have sold out before release I wouldnt be surprised if Argos tell you they are waiting on the kit from suppliers.

Luckily I pre-ordered a good while back. And if they turn out be rubbish, i'll have a couple to sell on ebay :p
#38
ok so i have ps3 and 3 xbox i have not bothered with the "move" just go on http://forzamotorsport.net/en-us/media/videos/default.htm?=3776#/video/3776/
(hopefully it works) and make your own mind up!!!
#39
oh wait for it to load E3 2010 trailer
#40
The launch line-up is impressive. Comparing price with the move is a bit stupid. It's like comparing the current price point of the DSi XL to the Game Boy Classic.
