Not sure if this counts as a deal as such but please move thread if needed

Just called to cancel my auto renewal of my xbox live gold membership which they were going to charge me £39.99 for another year.

The guy on the phone offered me another year for £26 if I stayed saving £14!

Might be worth calling to cancel and seeing if you can get any discounts

People have posted deals like this before - they are always dependant on what you are on at the moment, how good your negotiating skills are and who you talk to. I would probably say this should be in misc, as it's good to know but not sure if it's a deal... however I'm sure the mods will decide either way ;)

thats fair enough :) I didnt accept the £26 anyway as I really dont use it anymore as so didnt try and negotiate at all. Hopefully some people can save some cash along the line

i got offered that deal if i renewed with 4 months left via email.

I got 2 years for £40 in Nov.

A friend of mine managed to do this too, worth phoning them up before the renewal date.

echoing suspiciousmole, its all dependant on the moment. Kind of like when you are dealing with Sky, they will offer you something great when you try and cancel it but for others they dont.

I have a month left on mine so will give this a try, so heat from me.
#7
This is not a deal and shouldn't be listed as such - this is a personal renewal between yourselves and Microsoft. See the Sky threads.

Worked for me £26 Thanks.

i just called up, they said they don't take payments over the phone. all they can do is cancel my auto renewal for me, then the guy said to go to gamestation instead lol, fail

When i was asked about why i was canceling did the exact same said id seen it better on amazon, but also mentioned that play.com had 800 poiints with a 12 months as well, mentioned both the prices (29.99 for amazon and 34.99 for play).

Next thing i know the guy says i've got it for 26.50 for the renewal but also I'm getting 800 points!!! BARGAIN!!!!!

Just in case anyone was wondering, the free games allegedly take 4-6 weeks to arrive by email (codes). I had this confirmed by an MS Live Operative today.

Digital Downloads, far quicker and easier. It's the future ;)

this is a bit off topic - but can you use microsoft poinst even when your xbox live account has expired?

Only i had the xbox for christmas and the 1month gold membership had ran out, but i was given 1500+ (possibly upto 3000) xbox points. But i dont really know much about it - could i even but the membership outright with points?
#17
Got offered this or 1 month for £1.
Said no to both, couldn't be bothered to spend the money as there are no decent games out at the moment.

Yes you can. And didn't realise MS tried to negotiate with you to keep your subscription, no wonder they removed the auto renewal control from the website. Will give this a try in a few months (paid up until October atm).

i dont like the idea of putting my card details in and having microsoft auto-renew.

i bought my 12 months from comet for £30

My subscription is running out in 1 month, can you get this deal even if you've only subscribed via buying cards in shops? Cheers!
#22

No luck for me, checked auto-renewal status with them, asked for it to be turned off so it will run out. Guy didnt really care too much

I would call back and speak to someone else :)

Wow, I wonder how many more times a thread on this subject can be started this month, and talk about not giving card details to Microsoft and not knowing how easy it is to cancel auto-renew through the dash or website.... boring! How about a Virgin Media or Sky one, it's been days since someone's posted those!!

#31
Ok, the day after my phone call to M$ to cancel my auto-renew, the £23.99 offer pops up on my Dashboard spotlight.

Thats what you have to do

I just got 13months for £26.50... don't need the points as I have 2800 doing not a lot. Was 1 month free then the 12 months for £26.50 so the person said.
