My 2nd time i originally had a 3 month card about 1 year ago and now i fancy another 1-3 month code, trouble is i need it pretty much asap for a good price.

Isn't it £7.50 for 3 months through Xbox Live itself? Mine keeps showing an ad on the dashboard showing that price, anyway.

Yes but that means giving them your card details and going into a renewal agreement.

Mine isn't due until August now and I have a 12 month card in reserve otherwise I would have ordered this.

Thanks, should give me plenty of playing time before I get bored of RDR and go back to never using Xbox Live :-)

Well the main problem is that MS will take your card details and set up a renewal plan on your behalf and then try to auto renew even if the card has since expired and send you emails bitching and complaining about it there after until you pay them the full amount.

The details for my old card are on there actually but I can't be fussed to phone them so I've gotten around it for the last year or two by just renewing in advance with codes.

Why not just sign up, then cancel it straight away?

There is a cancel renewal button now that makes it really simple/quick. And £7.50 for three months can't really be beaten.
#12
This is a very good deal, cheapest you'll get elsewhere is around the £12 mark.

+1, there is no obligation to renew so I don't see why people moan about this.

Do you really need to be registered on the forums?

I was about to buy a 12 month membership on the website so what if you had just stumbled across it?

Hi. My LIve I paid for ends 22 June - they have charged me £4.99. Where is this cancel renewal button - is it there when you sign in through the console as cannot see it in account in browser.

Also via browser it says £14.99 for 3-months - someone said it was less directly?

Cheers.

Got to xbox live.com and sign in.

In the top right hand corner click on my account.

In the middle it will show your membership level and there is an option to turn off auto renewal.
#18
Likewise, I have never seen a cancel renewal button.

This video suggests that the 'ON' is a hyperlink which can then be disabled but it just appears as text on the page at my end.

In the middle of the page under membership level there is a green link you can click on to turn off auto renewal? This is on the account summary page.
#23
Yes that just appears as text on mine, it isn't a hyperlink.

Would it make any difference that my last renewal was on a 1 month card they gave to me when my console went in for 3RL repair though?

I called them and asked them to cancel the autorenewal - appartently they removed the option for security reasons .... hmmm!

The number you can call from your mobile to do this is: 0207 3659792 if you're not near a landline to use the free 0800 number and want the calls to come out of your inclusive minutes.

Cheers!

I suppose I'll need to call them then, it's just that there's a good chance that I may leave the UK over the next couple of years and I know it's one of those things that I'll forget about if I don't deal with it.

Thanks mate, rep left.

I let other know on anotherpost for XB Live. I work for the MS ****holes and until recently you did have option to turn off auto renewal but... it seemed that after some analysis into customers accounts it seemed that there were too many competitors out there selling XB Live cards for fraction of the cost than Microsoft themselves and so MS starts to lose money. The only option, entice people into unbelievable deals and try and keep them there. We disabled all access to Credit Card deletion, Auto renewal function was removed not for security but to prevent customers turning this off after taking up fantastic offer microsft gave i.e £7.50 for 3 months, over £6 cheaper than average net price at time.

This meant customers took offer through dashboard paid using Credit/Debit card and then automatically agreed to T&C's and entered into rolling contract until cancelled by customer. The only way of cancelling was then to divert them to Customer Services and the hassle of taking time out to wait in queue would hopefully put them off and auto renewale would kick in and hey £15 from card on renewal day.

The offer at moment for £7.50 has been created so that your credit card details cannot be removed and auto renewal cannot be cancelle duntil the expiration date of the 3 months is up. So MS think how many people will ring up on that day out of all those who have signed up, estimated only 65%

Its a shocking sales tactic only none too familiar with MS

Offer is good but remeber you must ring day before deal expires to remove card and turn off auto renewal or you will be billed again at £15 for another 3.

Would that be the same for the 1month and get 1 month free deal aswell?

Yeah fraid so, all offers through XB dashboard have been created to take payment via card and automatically add you to autorenewal. The difference is dependant which iffer is available to you at the time and which you choose

Say XB Live 3months £7.50 - next billed after 3 months ofr another 3 months at price at time of renewing

If you took 1 month and 1 month free at the end of your period you will be renewed automatically at monthly intervals, which over the year is a huge bonus for MS

The only real option you have to make sure you benefit and not ending paying price is to make a note on your phone, email, calender, outlook etc for the day before renewal and make sure you have plenty of spare time to get through to XB customer d*cks to cancek your subscription and then renew with prepaid code.

Forget and renewal happens and you have to wait all over again.

What about just call your CC company and get them to cancel any more transactions from micosoft?

Doesnt work, unless someone out there knows otherwise and would like to contradict me. Recurring payments are between you and retailer and not the bank or CC company. You gave them the authorisation and entered a legal contract when you gave them the card details, agreed to their T & C;s and in there would be the small print to say that they can take more after, usually you get lines like unless cancel by giving x number of days The only way to stop these is by asking the retailer to stop processing them. The CC company will only intervene should there be an actual problem, like, you never received good or services you paid for, you cannot contact retailer, retailer is refusing to communicate. All these things need to happen before CC company will intervene in which you then dispute the tranactions.

The CC compnay will look into this and will find out you entered agreement and everythings above board and that dispute is false.

Even after reporting your card lost and stolen these transaction can potentially still go through for some time after card reported.

When agreeing a recurring payment you enter a legal contract and sometimes can be very hard ot get out of.

A lot of companies out there offer good deals like 90 days free trial then £5 a month thereafter unless you cancel within 90 days. Withsome companies it can be quite hard to cancel so they can just keep taking your money and your bank wont stop them.

Robbing ****ards. Was initially tempted by one of them deals on the dashboard. Definately won't be in the future.

How can MS be the ones losing out to competitors though? There the ones bloody selling to wholesalers. If they have such a problem with it they should bump up the prices at that end.

Fact is they're making a mint out of so many things with xbox live now - games, DLC, avatar stuff, MS Points, gold membership, hardware, it's never ending and they'll stop at nothing.

And they will continue for decades to come until more people start funding and backing open source like ubuntu and linux and getting on board with Google Development.

I though cannot complain as they pay me a small fortune but I like many others have taken up there offers for XB Live and been duped down th eline. Problem is I never notice small amounts from my bank until comes the quiet day I sit every quarter and sort my bank statements and then notice them. The pinch of it is when checking these transaction sI end up with an additional line on my statement next to transaction stating LU Charge and an additonal £1.25 taken. Fought this with bank and MS and no one admitting fault. Yet on last purchase thsis had actually disappeared so one of them was to blame, not sure which.

One thing we are pushing for is an actual receipt system as current consumers have recurring payments set up but never an issue of any sort of receipt. This has have looked into and potential could be deemed unlawful when contesting any payments they take.
