Unless its changed in the last 2 months then its much harder than you think I had terrible trouble canceling my sons renewal.

Yes its changed loads in the last week as they've re-done their website!
#8
Ahh thanks for the message cd02, like disneygirl has already said it was a pain to try and do it before. The website had the option greyed out so you couldn't turn off the auto-renewal and I forgot to phone them in time and as a result got charged :(
Cheers for the heads-up, will get that sorted now!

Update: It would appear I still have to phone up MS to sort it out?

I phoned them up the other day to have the auto renewal turned off and the guy on the phone offered me 800 points to keep it on. Took the points and will cancel my renewal start of next year.

I've heard that before... its the difference between cancelling gold and cancelling automatic renewal
#15
Confirmed this morning when I phoned to disable auto renewal. I also ended up speaking with an irish chap, so it might depend on who you end up with as to whether you'll get the same offer.
#16
Confirmed here too. Just got off the phone to probably the same Irish guy who gave me the same deal for the year sub. Auto renew was going to kick in tomorrow as well so I'm glad the offer is legit!
#17
Whats the number to call them on?
#18
I phoned up to cancel mine and they didn't offer me anything. He just asked why was I cancelling and I said it was because I could get it for less than 40 quid elsewhere. He said fair enough and that was it.
#19
yep, mines expired and my credit card details that thye use have too. I'll try this....fingers crossed and thanx.
#20
What number are you calling?
#21
The phone number is 0800 587 1102.

Whitty - How long have you had a Gold account? It might be a deal they only hand out to people who have been with Xbox for a certain time, like I have been on Gold for a few years now.
#22
I really should cancel my Xbox LIVE account but I hate phoning up these call centres :/

Yes that's correct silver is the free version of Xbox live.

Phew! After having an xbox 360 for 10months I recently plugged it into the web and got a free month gold account that reverts to silver when expired. I thought I may have been charged eventhough i didn't open a billing account. so glad to hear silver is free of charge.

To clarify, I just phoned up for this and went through an indian office first.

I was straight up with him and said I want to cancel my current subsciption and was told u could offer live for £23.99 for 12 months.

He said it wasn't possible and I asked for a direct line number to the office in Ireland as that where 'my friends' were given this offer.

He told me that when u phone the free-phone number go through to cancellations - option 3 - and that will take you to the Ireland call centre, so I phoned them and was offered 12 months for £31.99. I said I want it for £23.99 as I know people that have been offered that and hey presto 12 months live for £21.99.

Hope this helps others....................:-)

Yey. though I will not be buying (i am still pretty bad at gaming) its good to see the power of the internet helping the little guy out. Result IMO.
#26

#27
What details do you need when you call please? It is my sons xbox so will I need his username etc? TIA

You will need his gamertag/user name and they will need to confirm this is correct by asking for his email and name afterwards. Think that is all.

I rang 0800 587 1102

Hours of operation:

You need to be put through to the XBL cancellation department. It's them that can give you the offer. First person I spoke to in account billing couldn't do it but offered to put me through. I enquired about the deal and was told it was available. Was then offered an even better deal, 2 years of XBL gold for £39.99 which I quickly agreed to!

Just had an email through but this states it's 2 years for £59.99:

Did you know that with Xbox LIVE® Marketplace on the Web, you can now buy Microsoft Points, purchase games, download game demos, and rent videos directly on Xbox.com to use on your console? That wasn't what I agreed to and will be ringing and demanding some money back if I pay a penny more than the £39.99 that was quoted to me several times...

I don't trust M$ with my card details and stick to using pre-paid codes.

well if you buy MS points off MS they work out to £0.85p per 100 so 800 = £6.80
so £23.99 + £6.80 = £30.79
yours cost £29.99

you do the maths ;)

Just renewed, paid £29.99 with 400 points.
He said I'll never get the £23.99 because it depends on your tenure. Since I've only been on live for 11 months this is really only what I can get, he did say that it should look better next year.
Well over £10.00 saved (with the points) - hot!
