Nothing wrong with saving money but one thing I would always buy brand spanking new is console controllers.

It has a 12 month warranty so I thought i'd take a punt :-)

Agreed, and Argos seem to have pretty regular deals for the elite controller and a game for £100

Fortunately mate, Student Computers generally mean 'As New' when they say it. You've got a great price if you wanted one.

Heat added :)

Student computers, console controller and give it a bash.
It's what they've been bashing between games that worries me.

Better deal here - £69.99, Grade A+ condition. Limited stock left though. I bought one last week, should get it today or tomorrow.

I'm not really sure of the cold votes, is it because of a better deal or just people not liking the post?

I've just had a look at it is £79.99 at the moment, good deal though, what are your thoughts on the controller?

Think they're just not liking £80 for a controller. Which is after all just a lump of plastic with a basic circuit board inside.

Bit harsh to vote cold because you don't like the item though, but fair enough each negative person to their own I guess.

A secondhand joypad for £80!

I guess you voted cold. Read the description on the site, it is a good deal.

Think you've missed the point. It's not the item they're not liking, it's the price. After all, if the deal was was exactly the same item, but £30, I'm sure it would go super hot.

Nobody disputes this is a really great controller, but £80.00 for used when you can get the standard for £35 new? And it's not as if the standard controller is in any way shoddy.

Yeah just checked it there and its gone back up just from yesterday. Typical.

My controller is out for delivery today, should get it later on. Will have a play and post my thoughts then.

Nah I haven't missed the point, the point is that the current cheapest price for the item in the condition it is in can't be found cheaper anywhere else at this point. If you want to buy a standard pad for £35 then this isn't the thread to be viewing. :-)

Awesome mate, let me know your thoughts on it, I might receive mine today or tomorrow so i'll let you know my thoughts on it too.

This is exactly why you have missed the point! This site is NOT about the cheapest price for an item. If it were, all deals would be a binary HOT or COLD without any degrees of heat. Deals are always subjective and take into account many others factors such as value for money.

In this particular case, I think the majority of voters have decided that a £35 controller will do exactly the same job as your £80 controller. And therefore your deal is overpriced despite is being the cheapest currently.

No doubt some posters will swear blind that this particular controller is worth the extra money (and that may well be the case) but the majority of voters don't. Hence the voting.

Awesome mate, let me know your thoughts on it, I might receive mine today or tomorrow so i'll let you know my thoughts on it too.

So got mine last night after work. The first thing that struck me was how heavy the box was! Everyone knows weight = quality, so good start there. Removed the outer packaging to reveal a shrink wrapped box. My first thought was "Is this brand new?" but I think its just been rewrapped by the seller, as the box definitely looks like the tape holding the box closed had been stuck back down.

Anyway, the joypad itself is excellent. Really impressed with the build quality - it feels solid, the sticks and analogue triggers are nice and smooth. I like the rubberized grips on the sides and I like the design - its cool in an understated kind of way (not garish, or anything like that). The interchangeable parts are a nice touch too, although I don't see myself using anymore than one set of sticks or d-pad. It is quite cool how they're held on by (strong) magnets, although I'll need to keep them out of reach of my toddler or they'll go missing! I like the case its all held in too - hopefully help keep everything together.

I only had a chance to try it out on Forza Horizon 3 as I had to go out and it felt good. As I said above, the sticks and triggers felt smoother than a standard pad (or maybe I'm trying to justify the price...?). One thing that bugged me a bit was the 'arms' that attach to the back of pad, as I kept touching them by mistake. Still not entirely sure what the best use of them will be (I don't think they're needed for Forza...), as they just seem to mirror the face buttons, rather than give extra functionality.

Anyway, I've went on a bit more here than I meant to. All in all, I'm impressed with the pad. Even if I get fed up with it, I reckon I can probably recoup some of the cash I spent anyway!

No that's awesome mate thanks for the info, I received mine this morning and I think it's amazing. Box and shrink wrapped exactly the same as yours. I tested mine on Rocket League, Titanfall 2 and Project Cars, the hair trigger switch is alright for FPS it basically makes less distance for the trigger to travel before you can hit it again, I probably wouldn't really use this feature. The flap paddles on the back I used on Project cars for manual gear shifts, it took a bit of getting used to but I think it makes the game more fun, I guess more immersive. I feel the same with the interchangeable parts, i'm having a go with the raised thumbsticks I feel that I get a bit more accuracy (could be psychological) when using them. Overall i'm happy with it, I think I got a good deal, no scuff marks on the pad and looks like it has never been used.

One other thing I found is that you can customise the sensitivity in the xbox system menu, so you can figure any of the buttons to be anything you want.

Also on the front of the pad is a switch labelled 1 - 2, these are two different profiles you can configure (not sure for what yet).

Anyway thanks again mate and all the best!

Ahh that's cool, thanks for your comments, you've only proved that it is based on people liking disliking items rather than people looking for a Hot UK Deal. Anyway lets agree to disagree and leave this conversation as it is. Have a good weekend.

You call it liking/disliking, I call it value for money/not value for money. Suspect we aren't all that far apart on what this site stands for! Have a good weekend yourself, and glad you're enjoying your controller.

Edit: And dispite the minus degrees, if it's helped someone else (and it obviously has) then well worth posting.

I've owned three Elite controllers - first two broke despite careful use within warranty and were replaced by Amazon no questions asked.

I would strongly recommend not buying an Elite controller from anywhere that does not allow you to take it back to the shop same day or otherwise access Amazon's legendary customer service.

Student Computers has also upped the price of the lowest price Grade A+ model from £69 to £79 in the past few days with most now coming in at £89.

I would avoid. When these controllers work, they are sublime but it's a lot of money for a gamble.

Thanks for the comment mate. Mine is working spot on at the moment. Fingers crossed it stays that way. :-)

It is I think the best console controller you can buy. It seems like a crazy amount of money to spend on a controller until you actually try using one - button click and basic feedback quite aside from customisation means that it's difficult to go back to another controller.

The price of these refurbished ones is though creeping up at a rapid rate. At £69 it would be worth a go but at £89, there's not much between it and the price of a new one.

Deal expired - and now charging £119 for a refurbished working controller and £85 for a broken one!
