comments / q&a unclear about if you can source it to say a game console or computer to get true 5.1 for that. seems to only have stereo inputs

Inputs

FM × 1
USB × 1
AUX×2

Outputs

HDMI x 1
SCART x 1
Optical x 1
SVHS x 1
COAXIAL × 1
Y,Cb / Pb, Cr / Pr × 1
SPEAKERS(5.1) × 1

Bit confused wether to buy this or not. Going by the reviews it seems like it may not be able to connect to my PlayStation or sky box properly. Everyone recommends using the headphone port which I'm not to keen on. However voted hot due to the price and rms rating. Cheers good find 8)8)8)

manual suggests can output 3xRCA from a PC or maybe an old external source (But i don't think the ps3 can do this)

but I have an old alienware m11x laptop that can do this - so could get surround sound in my bedroom for netflix for £30? RRP is £70 on amazon...

hold on that link might be wrong. i googled it and that's the first pdf that came up. but it doesn't have a built in dvd player so seems just a speaker/amp...

ignore above link?

the reevoos are all here but doesn't convince me it will accept a genuine surround sound input

you get what you pay for, I can believe for a second this would be good.

Looks like it's only playing stereo sound through 5.1 speakers. HARD PASS from me, it's trash.

The description must be wrong. HDMI, SCART, Optical, etc must be inputs not outputs. If they are getting something as fundimental as that wrong it doesn't look good for the quality of the rest of the kit....

To me, it looks like a DVD player with a built in decoder/amp which is why it has scart output, etc.

You can see the speaker connections on the right of the back of the DVD player.

How would you use the speakers without playing a DVD (i.e from other sources?)

Looks like it will only take stereo aux.

It has pro-logic 2 so the stereo will be seperated into surround sound, but it won't be as good as proper surround. You will get some sort of surround effect from everything, it won't come out as stereo. It's not going to be as good as proper surround inputs.

I'm using a similar set up with an old dvd player than only has aux input, everything on tv comes out in surround.

has red/white aux inputs. So you connect sound output on tv (if it has it) to the dvd player and put it on external source.

Then should be able to redirect tv sound to it.

It's a DVD player (with speakers) - they are outputs

Peeps - note that the surround sound is only for 6CH audio from the DVD. You can't use this to get surround sound from any other source. Mainly because it doesn't take any input like that. So if you are planning to buy this to "surroundify" your PS4/XBox/PC - it wouldn't work.

For that to work you need a device that can at least take in audio via optical and can convert those signals (like Dolby Digital via optical) to surround.

I got some surround sound speakers from Xenta once and they broke pretty quickly. Maybe I just got a faulty set but worth mentioning!

this is what I expect too. won't be pure. would make some shows good. like my hifi has nero 6 cinema for when I watch old tv shows. I believe some old shows had surround sound encoded into stereo for some decoders? but what i wouldn't expect is gaming on say rainbow six siege to work. still for the price is a good deal. but not as good as some people might hope.

Can I plug this into the tv so anything connected to TV (I.e Xbox, Wii etc( has sound come out of this?

Yes. plug it in via line out or worst case headphone from your tv to the stereo aux input on this. but you won't get genuine surround sound but maybe some pseudo surround sound. i know they used to hide some in stereo but that is being reprocessed by your tv so will be lost i suspect. you could connect xbox etc to this directly via aux stereo cable

has anyone bought one to test out?
