then pay lots more, personally i find 720p movies fine, far better than dvd's and i dont have to wait twice as long to obtain the files!

got one of these for £20 just before christmas

for £15 this is hot

the quality coming off my AVI files is fantastic

although the interface/menu is a bit clumsy, and i'd advise not plugging your 500gb hard drive in with all your movies/picture/music on, as it takes ages to find them

buy an 8gb or 16gb flash and move over a hand full of files at a time, a lot quicker
#6
ordered one, see how it goes. thanks
#7
Ordered one as well. For just over £15 it'll save me burning DVDs or running the video and audio cables out of my laptop and that's gotta be good value.

Like most others, I'm quite happy with upscaled at the moment - HD has just too much overhead in streaming or copying to be worth the effort. If I do go up to HD in the future, I don't think I'll worry too much about losing my investment :)

Will post a report when I have it

Only supports up to 720x576 though, DVD quality. Waste of £16

Well thats a higher res than most of the files people are likely to use with it. For the price and simplicity I reckon its a pretty good deal.

Duh! If you had read the above post first, I explained EXACTLY why I bought it. Anything higher than DVD is hard to come by, difficult to recode, onerous to download or stream and takes huge amounts of space. Great for the hardened, must have the best of everything, movie enthusiast but a pain in the a** for most people. As a player to watch stuff coded from your PC this is perfect and less than the price of a decent cable. I call that a bargain!

Of course, you are saying that because you have the best of everything already set-up?? If so, why are you even looking at a deal for a £15 player? Surely you only look at £000 videophile gear anyway??

Plug in a USB memory stick or an external USB hard drive. It also takes these memory cards:
MMC/SD/MS/SDHC (the sort that go in phones or cameras.
The player itself is connected to your TV with an HDMI cable (or composite video - if you don't know what this is, don't worry about it!)
#14
This Combined With An External Usb Drive Hmmm. Wait I Have Invented Something Here Now What To Call It?
#15
I'm going to need another HDMI cable. Anyone know the best deal on at the moment for one?
#16

I just bought this

And I love it.

It's tiny, and the UI is good.

Not a 'deal' I admit, but I'm glad I paid the extra.
#19
Responding to one of the earlier threads, just in case anyone did want a 1080p version (upscaler) in a similar small device, try this for £23. Has a lot of good reviews...

Poundland for HDMI cables.
#22
Its a good deal but if it interests you it does NOT support mp4 with h264 codec or mkv, (im not starting a codec argument here, i just researched it as its important to me and so others may find it helpful).
#23
wish this had a composite connection :(
#24
I've just ordered ,during order , at start it says free royal mail delivery ,at end at payment it shows £3 odds for delivery ,does everyone have this come up?
#25
err it does have a composite connection. It is best suited for replaying avi files from the internet, such as tv shows.

Just had to select the 5 day super saver option on the checkout screen to get the free delivery. Just tried it, and works fine.
#28
tbh 720p in most cases is more than enough.

unless you intend to use it on a 50+" TV and sit less than 2 metres away.....

And in any case this is the type of thing for people who want a cheap alternative to a Bluray player or a media pc.

#29
Thank you! Been looking for something this simple and cheap.

Ordered and heat!
#30
Thanks for the sahre. just ordered one too.

P :)
#31
would love one similar price that will do every file lol anyone help??? £20 limit
#32
thanks, ordered one for my folks.
#33
How does it rewind, ff, pause, etc.?

Is there a remote control?
#34
This is a good deal IMO, but people should consider the original Xbox with XBMC on it, does a great job and can stream from the network (which is the clincher for me). There is even a great iPlayer plugin

All the best,
Ash

I would agree with the above, i have 2 of these connected to my daughters tv's and work a treat. Tried it on my big lcd using HDMI cable and it was fab! Worth the extra £££

Do you know what the going rate is for one of these, I have my old one modded with a 160gb drive that I was thinking of selling, not sure how much to charge though.

Cheers
