Good price with the games, I grabbed my 5850 on release and I couldn't be happier with it.
#2
Good price with the additional software.

I bought my 5850 (XXX Edition) in Feb and have been very pleased.
Would love to add a second in Crossfire.

Wonder how this fan system compares to the vanilla batmobile. I'd like to fit an aftermarket cooler to mine but I have limited space in my MATX.

Very tempted by this - I was waiting on this card going sub £200, but with the bundled games it's a reasonable offer.

However, i'm not a big fan of Ubi (given their DRM - so i wouldn't buy AC2 out of principal), MW2 without dedicated servers doesn't appeal, and i've not heard good things about AvP ... i'm still up in the air, and i'll have a think about it.

Voted hot, as this certainly is a good value package for those that want the games too.

How overclockable is the 5850 on standard cooling - i've seen benchmarks where it's almost as quick as the 5870, but I couldn;t see if that was on stock cooling or not.

Where are the download vouchers for?

I've already got a 5850 Black Edition but still interested.

Indeed, it is not a bad deal at all this. I got a friend one of these on launch for around £190, but since then the price has just been going up and up lol - he is very happy with it, I am just a bit upset I didn't get one for myself at the same time (_;)
.
I was always secretly waiting to see what nVidia had to offer before purchasing, what a mistake that was. It is scary to think that this card has virtually no competition unless you want to double up your GPU as a BBQ lol
#8
I think this card has the non reference cooler which doesn't vent the hot air outside the case.

Good deal though, and don't forget Quidco.
#9
Although the games package is reasonable, this is still just as expensive as it was at launch! I think this card will drop in price when the GTX460 is (probably) released on Monday. I would wait.

I want to fit this to my card:

Arctic Cooling Accellero Twin Turbo 2

The reference card is already quiet but this should be even better. Seems quite good value at £25 and should allow higher overclocks.

If you buy this then you have too much money.

No offence to anybody intended but these days it would seem as though the PC games market is only for masochists and the socially awkward.

Reasonable deal, but 'Sold out' & no games.

Well the PC market may be in a state of unrepair, but that doesnt mean that you wont need a decent gfx card to play FPS games the way they were intended to be played. Games like Bad Company 2 etc on the highest settings require a pretty hefty system, which is why the console versions of it are god awful.
#15
Personally I was quite happy with the 360 version of BC2 but admittedly I never tried the PC port.

Most FPS games are designed with console in mind these days though with the PC taking second place so I'm not sure why anybody would really want to pay the price anymore. Don't get me wrong, I was a massive PC gamer in the days of UT and Quake Arena but I think the hardware manufacturers have priced themselves out the market now and the DRM doesn't help.

Agreed, after trying various FPS games on my PS3 I've decided to buy something in this range of graphics cards for my new pc, although waiting on nvidia's announcement monday as looks to be the gfx 460, so price may come down.

Also in regards to Spark's comment, i don't see how pc gaming in a room is less social than a PS3 or xbox in a room. At lest when i do get my pc i can play online against people who are generally older than 8.

If I demonstrated several titles running on my PC and 360 simultaneously then you'd soon change your mind :3
I'm not a console hater but the difference is significant.

The Arctic Twin Turbos don't fit the 5850 without modification unfortunately, some of the fins get in the way of the DVI block. It is an great cooler however so if you're up for a bit of dremeling it's a good choice.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the warranty yet, all XFX cards come with a double lifetime warranty (one for yourself and one transferred to whoever you sell it on to) meaning you get excellent support and excellent resale value. Which is nice. :D

Even still, 3rd party games will always be graphically superior on the PC, which is one of the main reasons why there are still pc gamers about these days. Multi-platform games generally look average/good at best on consoles. The only console games to blow me away in terms of graphical power were Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain, and probably GT5 when it eventually gets released, and they are all exclusive to one console, allowing all the development to be focused on that.

Not much more than a PS3 or the newest released x-box...and yes you need the other components of the pc to go with it but most people who would be interested in this will already have a pc for other tasks. So...better graphics with a more accurate aiming interface for a tad more money isn't all that daft really. It's just a shame the prices haven't gone down since release...how long has it been now? :/
#21
The XFX warranty is 2 years. The double lifetime warranty applies only to USA...I should know, got caught out a couple of years ago with that one :-(
#22
Have the 5870 one up from this, and have to say this is one of the best ranges of gfx cards that ATI have ever done. Runs quiet and incredibly cool. Ran Crysis warhead and my jaw dropped, havn't seen any console game do that for a very long time.
#23
I have a PC, PS3 and a 360 ... I always get FPS, Strategy and MMO's for the PC, and mainly Action and Sports games for the 360, and the kids play their games on the PS3 in the living room when its not been used as a media server or blu ray player - best of all worlds and no need to bash any system - they all have strengths and weaknesses
#24
I'm not bashing anything at all, I appreciate the PC as a platform and it does do a lot of things that console don't especially if your an MMO or RTS person (which I personally am not).

I just think that it gets the rough end of the stick these days and I think that a lot of people just stick with it to prove a point.
#25
The reason why the 5800 range are getting more expensive is that very few chips that are manufactured for this card are passing tests, so there was a shortage of this, hence why the price is going up. I bought mine 3 months ago at about £220 for the Sapphire HD 5850 with Dirt 2.

I have been running BC2 (Bad Company 2) on full settings with no problems on my PC and prefer to play this on the PC than a console.
#26
Hehe, PC gaming is just stuck in a hardware dilemma at the moment. Waiting for the next big thing to arrive (ray tracing maybe?). I am sure once it arrives things will take off again. I wouldn't particularly say that consoles are doing great either, the speculation about new consoles is dire with barely anything of meaning. That should scare you, because it could mean that they are either going to make a console to early, and miss the 'next big thing boat' or wait so long that that things like Tablets etc become the next big 'console' target.

Scary times, good for the console at the moment, but it really doesn't look that rosy when compared to the PC.
#27
there seems to be 3 xfx designs for the 5850, which one is this, is it the one in the picture, because on some sites there have been wrong pictures posted

The only alternative are consoles which have considerably aged technology. If we only had the choice of consoles then gaming would suffer I believe. PC's offer technology to get the best out of gaming and keep gaming fresh. There won't be any new console revisions for quite some time. PC's will always be at the forefront of graphics, physics and other technological advancements. I don't believe gaming can do without the PC.

Great card. BFBC2 plays far better than on my noise-box360.

Funny, these deals are normally full of Nvidia/Ati fanboy arguments, not PC / Console :)

If you are not interested in the games you can get a 5850 for £208 delivered here :

Or the Asus model which OC's well for £219 :

Same problem here, where are the games? :(
And it appears to be Assassins Creed 1 not 2 so a bit disapointed but the card itself is great! :)

Dabs site said it was Assassins Creed 1, hukd had it wrong - I'd ordered before even seeing it on here.

Just email dabs with your order number and explain you are missing the vouchers, got mine sorted earlier and are on there way.
