Looks like the price cuts are starting to hit uk shores!!
The 9800gtx from XFX with stock clocks performs very similar to the ATI HD4850 for a very similar price.

Nice.

Though i don't know between this and an HD4850 :(

If you use hexus/AV Forums free delivery it is £129.23 delivered.

*woops, little typo above*
ah, even better with free delivery then =D
hmm, certainly going to be a tough decision for people looking at this price range

If you have a motherboard that supports Nvidia’s HybridPower technology you’ll get a very low idle power consumption using it with this card compared to the ATI card which will be a deal clincher for some. It’s only available on AMD chipsets at the moment with Intel versions due Q3 which starts in less than 1 hour. :)

The 9800GTX is slower than the HD4850 in almost all benchmarks. It is a quicker card and its cheaper, you can get it for £123 delivered.

Wow, I bought an 8800GT 512MB for £150 only about a month ago... :-( Good price.
#6
get the 4850 over this as gabriel959 suggested. On power alone, the 4850 wins hands down.
Darn it, now I wished I did sell my 8800GT for £70 now :(

I have a Gigabyte 8800GT which is factory overclocked to 700Mhz core.

Griffo2, have these price cuts been made across the full range? I'm considering upgrading to a GTX 260, but I wonder if I should wait a while.

it wont come to ati as nvidia bought the company and have full ownership of the physx

your right it wont...

BUT AMD/ATI have teamed up with havoc, a much ****** company that is now owned by intel, so physics will be handled more successfully by the CPU and not the GPU

Heh I just checked and it was actually in March when I got mine! I was sure it wasn't as old as that, I've just lost a few months somewhere...

That's about the price I paid for my 8800GT a couple of months ago and I've hardly had chance to use it yet
Ergo, hot.

its already been hacked to work on ati cards.

i believe nvidia will be pi$$ed and will be looking into possible legal avenues, however, i believe the physx software is all opensource so could be a tough argument to win.

personally whilst the 9800gtx is a good card, i wouldnt even consider one against the HD4850

Lets not get into an nvidia\ati squabble. The 9800GTX is faster than the 4850 in some games, depending on settings etc. It's a matter of preferance. Also some people will have Sli motherbords and would rather a Nvidia card. Don't vote it cold just because it's not your preferred flavour. This is the best price for this card at the moment, so it should be voted hot.

Thanks for the post DJ Fluff but unfortunally I don't have any free drive bays + I would like to keep my comp as cool as possible. Is there any fans I can add to the 8800GTX or my Dell 9200 case that could improve cooling?? Many Thanks!!
#38
