The ATI Radeon 4890 graphics card is ATI's new single core flagship graphics card. Based on the 4870 architecture this card features a new GPU and much faster GDDR5 memory. Clocking in at 850MHz core speed and 3900MHz out of the box this card is anywhere between 10-15% faster than the previous 4870 graphics card. In our own testing we found these cards to perform extremely well but things start to get really exciting when you use the supplied ATI Overdrive utility within the catalyst drivers. Early rumous have seen cards reaching insane speeds as high as 1000MHz core and 4800MHz memory. In our own testing we found the cards remained stable upto 990MHz core and 4600MHz memory which results in nearly 30% performance improvement over the 4870 cards and performance was incredibly close and sometimes matching GTX 285 performance levels. Now Novatech does not guarantee that these cards will overclock the same for everyone but it seems safe to say cards should happily run at 950MHz core area and 4400MHz memory. Needless to say ATI have a winner on their hands with the 4890 graphics cards.

it was 6% they must have changed it but a decent make from a decent retailer what gets me is how this is over 100c yet it only has 1 comment I'm sure people on here just vote and dont have a clue as to what they are voting on.

I'm going to wait because in the last week we have seen some great prices on all the ATI range and i dont think we have seen the best deal yet but the Overclcockers Sapphire 4870 toxic for £129 delivered or £119 collection is very good as they overclock really well.

Is the suround sound on this hd as in tru hd and dts master or is it standard dolby digital?

Agreed - I'm sorely tempted by the Overclockers Toxic as although there has been a cheaper card posted (£115) the Toxic is a more complete, higher quality package. Very good VFM & selling at about £50 more elsewhere.

or do I wait.............................

It's always the way with PCs. If you keep waiting for that 'just around the corner' bit of equipment or deal, you'll never end up getting it.

For example, the two 4850 cards I got 6 weeks ago are now 20 quid cheaper, or you can say the 4870 cards are now available for that price. My 4850s are great, they do all I want them to do, so I'm not at all miffed at the price drop.

ATi's product range is decreasing in price since the release of the 4770, because two of them in Crossfire is smashing most 150 quid single cards out there (hence why the 4870 went from 150 to 120) - well in games at least. Not my main focus; but their double precision arithmatic is 3x better than nVidias offering.

I think it's just a passthrough. It outputs whatever sound is input to your reciever/TV. So if the source is true HD, then it will pass on the true HD sound over HDMI.

i've never had a graphics card more expensive than £100 so voted cold

hahahah...you just panicked there didn't you...just kidding!!! why would i spoil a good deal when i see one :whistling:

wouldn't personally buy it, i laid down some rules some time ago when i built myself a new computer, i don't buy top of the range stuff anymore as it only offers a little more for a lot more cash minus in my pocket

for someone who knows what this card is about and what it does it's useless to recommend it, they should have the knowledge to make up their own mind

i can only recommend novatech, they are spot on !!! :santa:

its a great card and clocks like a beast, would have snapped this if i didnt get the gtx 275

pixmania have this cheap time to time oem one around £160 without the games

Good deal for card and bundle. This is also for sale at overclockers for £171.99 + £9.99 P&P, which is obviously more but ... if you're a forum member of OCUK then P&P is free

wow - great price for a great card.

paid £220 for my 4870 1GB about 7months ago

Being an XFX, does anyone know how noisy this is? Thanks.

I third that. The toxic deal was a cracker, would be amazing if you had free postage, tempted to buy one and crossfire with my existing 4870...or do i wait for the 5870s and Nvidia GTX 3XXs?

I havn't got any money so I'll probably wait ;)

The exact same item is available at OCUK for £171.99 and so if you are entitled free shipping with them (you have to be a forum member and have 250+ posts or something) then this works out better.

I would take my chances with Novatech & Quidco for the £1.60 extra

May be OK for those who are eligible as you say. But for those who don't have 250 posts at their forum, it's asking way too much, especially when one is looking to buy this now. Scan have much easier qualifying criteria with AVForums (active member) & Hexus (20 posts). Perhaps OcUK will take a hint?

Agreed. Just to clarify i did vote this hot and wasn't being an ass (hence why i didn't start a brand new thread). Just thought it might be useful to some.

I think this is a good deal considering you get two games free but I'm tempted with two 4770 which outperforms this card on many occassions.

I suppose with this it leaves you with another slot free for future upgrades.

Nice price. The quidco is great as well.

Also will recieve a much better service (I paid for the item, DHL lied about delivery, badly forged my signature and completely misspelled by name in the signatory box, and pixmania are doing squat) than pixmania who are offering this at £168 in a oem box with no games.

I think the difference is not very significant, so this would be better. If you already own a 4770 & Crossfire board, then it makes better sense to get another 4770 for now.
