I personally have this card and it's been great considering I spent £250-300 on the whole system. Ran Crysis on high just fine :)

Nice find/price... but personally would rather have an ATI HD4670 for around the same price and has HDMI and 2008Mhz memory clock speed and 750Mhz core clock speed. Added heat though as nvidia people would prefer this :)

Dammit, and to think my Powercolour 4850OC ed was £130... Still, I suppose it was a good deal last October lol
#7
cash nvidia wont be seeing from me because nvidia think they can charge motherboard makers
for sli support

jokers

will put crossfire in at some point to get shot of my 8800gt

theyr not happy selling you 2 cards instead of 1 they also want a kickback from the motherboard makers
#8
Now if this was a 9800GT novatech would have a sale, or infact if it was an 8800GT.

But its neither.

Have a look at this page, I'd agree with the above comments and say 'YES!'

Pay the few quid extra and get a 4770 to be honest, much faster.

£20 more for the 4770:

It's also nowhere near the price of a 9800GT or 8800GT.

Sigh. Don't you just hate this?

People who come into a deal, and whinge, because it's not something else... Kind of brainless, really...

I'm not going to go into a deal for a £5 kettle and moan because it's not a microwave.

I agree they shouldent limit the options of people and forcing people to use their chipsets etc but at the same time it is a GOOD DEAL which is what this website is about so it should still be hot yeah? :-)

It's a much more powerful card - closer to the old 8800GT

BUT

If the rest of your system is poor you won't actually get that much of a boost from it ofc. - an old system with a new GPU isn't going to set anyone's hair on fire, so to speak.

But then for £20 more then the 4770... etc and so on, this could go on forever - for the card it is its hot we shouldent really compare to cards outside the price bractet, for this price there is not much that could touch it and i dont like nvidia :whistling:

4670 for £55 which is around the same performance, 9600gt for £57.49, ati 4830 for £70 which is nearly the same performance as a 8800gt and the 4770 for £78 which is the same performance as a 8800gt. In my opinion i would spend the extra £20 on a 4770. Got a 8800gt second hand for £50 myself and i can play everything i want too very well. I couldn't with a 9600gt because it cant play things as well at 1080 so £20 is so incredibly worth it to me!!!!
#17
This was my card of choice 2 months ago when I upgraded. It has kicked a new lease of life into my ageing system I have to say. I paid nearer 75 quid for mine from Novatech so at this price its a steal!! Defo heat and rep.

Bear in mind that £20 is 33% extra. Its a different band of card, this is a cracking price for this class of card.
hot.

seems to be very little speed improvement over my 8800GS that i got for £45 ish a year+ ago.. so although that was a very good deal at the time, this isn't much better.

This is a good deal but not as good as the deal at PC World when they was selling these for nearly £11. I was one of the lucky few to get one a few months back:-D

hmm, im on the look out for a graphics card, i have a decent enough system but my graphics card is seriously lacking. I have
Asus Stiker Extreme Mobo, Q6600 Cpu, 4GB Crucial Ram, 150GB WD Raptor, 1 TB Samsung F1 Spinpoint unfortunately i am using a graphics card ripped out of my old medion, lol, an ATI Radeon X740 XL.
Wouldnt an Nvidia Graphics card be better suited in my setup? I keep hearing good things about the 8800GT??
The Radeon, although old, still does what i need which is viewing Mkv files. I dont do much gaming so havnt really pushed the card at all, all the time ive had it. I wanna upgrade though, i am not too worried about SLI although my Mobo supports it, not too sure if i have room as i have a Tuner already in it, a wireless PCI card.

Any advice would be very helpful.

I would like a card that has a HDMI input although not entirely necessary, i can always use a DVI to HDMI adapter, Also i notice this has a Tuner, seems like a bonus as i already have a tuner, so another one to record whil im watching would be cool. The thing that concerns me is the Component output restricted to 1080i? it's like that on some TV component input i know but i would still like atleast 1080p on all inputs, i dont wanna get rid of VGA either, basically a VGA/Component input, Hmdi input, DVI input. that would tick the boxes.

The difference between day and night does not compare to the difference between a 9600gt and a X740.

I have one already in my spare pc and I am seriously contemplating buying this and getting an SLI motherboard.

Fantastic value. I would rate this over a GTX 295 in terms of value etc.

I've been an Nvidia fan for years so voted hot.

Although this is better, not searched price wise. http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/9769870/Sapphire-ATI-Radeon-HD-4670-512MB-DDR3-PCI-Express-2-0-Graphics-Card/Product.html#

AMD Phenom X4 Quad-Core 2.2ghz

Twenty quid is well within most peoples budgets and nets you a whole lot more performance. The 4770 is the best bank for buck card around, you have to pay almost double to get performance beyond it.

Your pc is more than fast enough, but as said previously the ATI 4770 is a good competitor, its £20 more but its faster, supports more features and doesn't have the little whiney cooler.

Ok thanks for the advice, 4770 it is!

reckon this or what would be a good move on a:
C2D 6600 @ 2.4ghz
4GB Corsair DDR2
CM PSU 450w (i think)

also what do you think is the limit for graphics card on:
P4D945 @ 3.6Ghz (i think)
2GB DDR1?

Once again, another of the time machine/ESP geniuses...

is XFX reliable? Last I remember they overclock their card by default?

Paid £64 pounds last september for this,

about right really.

Failed a couple of times and had to be returned.

The clock speeds aren’t the issue but the performance is. According to XBitlabs the 9600GT easily beats the HD 4670:
