Novatech has this graphics card on offer for £189.74 delivered. If you know what it is, you know it's a bargain.

It is the updated 216SP version which makes it a bit faster than a Radeon 4870. It also comes with one good game (Far Cry 2) and one average game (Mirrors Edge) free.

Please post a cheaper/better deal before posting negative comments.

Hope this helps someone.

In terms of ranking, how does this compare with HD4850, HD4850X2, HD4870, HD4870X2 and the old GTX260 if anyone who isn't confused by the above letters and numbers could explain. I've been looking to upgrade my 8800GT

1). HD4870X2 (£350)
2). HD4850X2 (£250)
3). GTX260 216SP
4). HD4870/ and GTX260 192SP (£200) - both cards very close.
5). HD4850 (£120)

The 1st and 2nd cards use 2x GPU (graphics processors) on the same board making them faster in games that support dual GPU's. They also use a lot more power and require a beefier PSU to run.

Thanks for that! High-end cards boggle my brain, with some saying some are faster etc etc. Would the GTX280 be just above the GTX260 216 then do you suppose?

Yes. The GTX280 is 7-10% faster but costs around £60 more for the cheapest one currently available. I have a GTX280 but doubt I would notice any real difference between the two.

If you are after a decent budget card for under £120 go for a HD4830 or HD4850. This is the best card currently available under £200.

and here is me thinking the 8800GT is still a top of the range card!!!

It's just I recently got a 24" Dell 2408wfp, and so the desktop res. being 1920x1200, it's such a shame that Crysis effectively dies at that resolution now. Having come into some cash lately I thought I could sell my old (4 months really) Zotac 8800GT and upgrade to a higher spec. I actually returned a HD3850 before buying that because there was no fan control, and it's nice being able to adjust fan noise/coolness using rivatuner. And a little wary of ATI's fan control bug.

That was never top dog, but great value in it's day:). I had one and loved it.

The GTX260 is ideal for a 24" monitor, but do not expect to play Crysis on FULL settings with ANY modern graphics card. High settings will however be fine at that resolution.

so is the step up from 8800gt to this new card a big one? I mean i had an 8800gt about 9 months ago and in Crysis on max detail (1280x1024) i was getting maybe 25 FPS. Are we now talking 60 with these new cards?

This review will answer your questions.

In short, this card is roughly twice as powerful as an 8800GT.

nice review, thanks for the link to that. I may well consider an upgrade now too.

Not that I like bursting bubbles... but the 'Dark' review is for the highly overclocked black edition. Which this is not.

All GTX260's overclock to similar levels if you are into overclocking. Infact, all cards are built on the same production line and apart from stickers are the same. Bubbles not burst:-D. ATI follow similar practice with their cards.

Average game my ****. Mirror's edge was one of the best games of 2008.
