It's a cracking deal but I might be tempted to stump up the extra 11 quid n go for the 1Gig 4870 powercolor also from ebuyer?

Purely personal choice!

But a hot deal from me!

or ati 1GB 4890 £129.99 http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/451308/xfx-hd-4890-1gb-gddr5-129-95-at-ebu/

yes that is a good deal however that is scans 1 day deal. AFAIK the one on ebuyer is the cheapest available if your after 4890.
#6
I completely agree the 4890 all the way but I was trying to be good and stay close to the OP's price point!

For what its worth I'm running the 4890 and it really is a blinding card!
#7
Oh, quick warning, take it for what its worth, lol.

But Scan used to have a weird returns policy with XFX where they would test the faulty product before sending it to XFX TO BE TESTED again before any refund/replacement was authorised.

This led to humongous turn around times and wasnt unheard of for customers to be without their graphics cards for several months....As I said just a friendly heads up for y'all and perhaps this is no longer the case AND it only, as far as I know, applied to xfx gear bought only from Scan.

Best wishes

M.

The 1GB 4870 is worth it if running at high resolutions, but personally I don't think the 4890 is worth the extra as the difference is so minimal.

i posted this last week when it was £92.27.to let you know i recieved a 4870 with a different heatsink and fan,the fan is bigger so i think its probably quiter than the standard cooler, idles at 60 and load its around 80.which is fine considering the fan is set on such a low speed by default. no heatsinks on the ram! see picture here

Hmmm. Very tempted by this.

s3x_money: How noisy is it? Can you hear the fan kicking in when you play games?
#11
GOt one of these - Awesome, can be quite noisy but i added a thermaltake rad, and a couple of fans., now silent, if thats what you want. Hot!

Note, you do not need 1GB versions if you game at 22" and under
#12
it doesnt get up to 100% when i play games,i have heard it whir up to 100% i think.
i cant hear it when its at 70%

You do if you want to run something like GTA with highest settings, not that I'd know what that feels like with a HD3850 :?

Superb deal btw
#14
Great deal, thanks - but the comment above about this being noisy kinda put me off :(

Any idea when the next lot of ATI cards will be out please?

Cheers
#15
This quieter than my sapphire 4670? Noisy as hell that card is!
#16
Nope, a lot louder in fact... :(

Gonna wait for the next gen of cards I think instead of this :(

Last I heard ati will be releasing their range of dx11 cards sometime this year?

Sure someone's got more up to date info though?
#18
As far as I've heard, ATI are gonna release dx11 cards around windows 7 release and nvidia will follow slightly later.
But that is only rumoured afaik nothing official has been said by either side.

"We've got a confirmation that RV870, first of the performance DirectX 11 card, simply codenamed Evergreen, will end up with a dual chip brother.

The dual chip card is in the works and we know that it should be coming roughly around the same time as the single RV870 card.

The card will try to compete for the high end, ultra high end performance crown, to try to take away the performance crown from Nvidia, which they might even accomplished, but as we said many times before, Nvidia will be coming out with its answer.

The card as you can imagine will fully support DirectX 11 instruction set, as well as OpenCL and DirectX compute, something that AMD also wants to push on the market. We are very confident that ATI should be the first on the market with its dual chip DirectX 11 card.

But you have to remeber one thing. There will be very little titles for DX11 at start so probably the full potential you will be able to see on Q3 2010 because current GFX cards still doesnt pump fully juice from DX10 libraries.I got now HD3870 and I am considering GTX 260 (216 cores),GTX 275 or HD4890. They're more future proof than HD4870 not to mention better performance (not marginal of course) and I believe their prices will drop sooner or later more than dropped now.Anyway its still good price for that card. :)

This might sounds a bit idiotic here in this post.... I am a ATI+AMD hater :-D
I would recommend the £115 gainward GS GTX260 55nm, although its out of stock now
enjoying my i7+260 at the mo

About the DX11 issue, I read there are only like 40 games that fully support DX10 at this time, rest all based on DX9. Maybe its fact based on gamers dislike vista. So I would ignore this problem and maybe buy another graphic card to upgrade for £100ish in 2/3 yrs time when I feel needed more power. So far there is no sign PCI-E will be ditched so far so just make sure your whole system (mobo, cpu, psu etc) is futureproof

The only game scheduled for release this year with dx11 support confirmed (that I could find) was DIRT 2,

there are rumours bout a couple of others, but nothing official, so pretty sure you would be safe without it for a good while

It does sound idiotic since at the cheaper end of the market, AMD have the fastest gaming hardware that also happens to be the most power efficient. Nvidia will surely pull ahead in time as each try and outdo each other buy right now the bang for buck crown has to sit with the ATI cards.

I got one of these delivered from Ebuyer today and mine is also the card posted above with the larger fan.
It's quieter than my Quadro FX3500, but that was like a jet taking off..
Now showing £90.05. huge increase of 6p.
