Product Description
Theres an ideal graphics card for every gamer, and the XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770 single slot graphics card is for the gamer looking for true quality attributes: utility, stability, and reliability, not to mention some excellent overclocking capability. A single-slot card variant of the 5700 performance card family, it sports a uniquely designed fansink, with a total heatpipe surface area that is 15% greater than the HD 5770 dual slot channel fansink. This, combined with the open space provided by the single slot environment, ensures maximum airflow to the GPU.
An acoustic comparison of the 5700 family found that the XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770 single slot was up to 23.5 dB lower than the HD 5770 dual slot full cover fansink. Enhanced cooling and reduced noise is helped by fan speed, which is controlled by a PWM circuit on the PCB. Dust levels are kept down to a minimum with IP-5X Dust Protection Standard, meaning XFX can Play Dirty! For gamers who have been waiting for the ideal single-slot graphics card, the XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770 has been worth that wait. The unique cooling capacity and reduced noise levels of this single-slot solution ramp up the attributes, making this a very attractive graphics card indeed.

whats the difference between a normal 5770 and a 'cooler edition' 5770? I am looking for either a gtx460 or 5770 though

This is a single slot cooler edition, it means it only takes up 1 slot on the backplate and less space in your case, ideal for crossfire or htpc.

Powerful small card and doesn't take up much space..

Good alternative here, http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sapphire-hd-5830-xtreme-1gb-gddr5-dvi-hdmi-mini-displayport-pci-e-graphics-card/928277 if I didn't already have a HD 6990 I would get two of these HD 5830' vapor X's in crossfire lol, what a bargain!

I have a 5770 card and it does everything I ask
it to do. The problem is that I am 67 and my
reactions ensure that I do not ask it to do too
much these days.

The 5770 is a great card, just been playing BC2 and Shift 2 in 1080p....they do look great!

Would have voted this hot, but op's other deal is a significantly more powerful card for £10 less (and from reviews, the sapphire extreme 5830 doesn't even appear to be much less efficient, either):

Yeah this single slot HD 5770 deal is aimed for HTPC owners or PC's with limited space, different type of card for different type of PC user. The other HD 5830 deal is better if you have the space/power supply etc. Especially if you can run two of them!

When would someone need the 5830 over the 5770? I'm an average games player with a intel quad core, 4 gigs ram and currently a 9800gt. I play things like Fifa 11, Black Op's, Fallout etc.

After another fail on behalf of Ebuyer I would find it hard to deal with them again, Samsung monitor debacle, good deal if they manage to deliver.

Those three games aren't particularly demanding :p

Thats what i'm asking tbh tho dopey! I'm not a major FPS player and so Crysis not running and 60 fps with max detail, 16x AA etc etc doesn't matter to me...
#13
I heard you should steer clear of XFX cards..

Would this be a good replacement for the nvidia gt8800. I'm trying to extend the life of my dell xps 420 system for a few years.
#15
Will this be a good upgrade from a Nvidia GTS 250 WoW Edition?? Please help guys, thanks.

Don't go by what you hear, try it yourself. I've got an XFX HD 5830 and no problems as of yet.

I think that's a little uncalled for, Matt. In answer to your question, though, if you consider yourself to be an average gamer and a 5770 is sufficient for your needs, that's great, but the person who needs to step up to a 5830 would be someone who is an 'above average gamer' and plays games that are that bit more demanding/wants to use slightly higher settings. Simples!

With the difference being Scan having muslim call centres, and eBuyer having a call centre with people you can actually understand.

Much rather go the eBuyer way for the superior customer support. Scan are just a group of conmen looking to make money, even if it means ripping off customers.

sorry cant delete that "gfg" above, windows probs :D

I buy all my gear from ebuyer without probs, I think I'm on my 3rd card from XFX, proven excellent value for money and personally I would choose them over Saphire and powercolour from my own experience..

I don't think your comment about my comment is called for. Dopey is hardly slanderous and is clearly not intended as means to insult or the like. If I wanted to be nasty I would - thats why I used that word. Get off my case internet warrior!

scan is based in Bolton which has a large pakistani community. they're most likely just speaking with a heavy northern accent

Fair enough. At the end of the day this is a forum for expressing views. I've expressed mine and you've expressed yours. Just mildly curious why you posed the question in the first place, though, if you're clearly not interested in the answer, which is what I was doing.

Good luck with their "superior customer support" have you read any of the monitor threads regarding this "superior" service ?

andyken - the rest of your answer was exactly what I was looking for - thank you, should have said that - his answer was simply unhelpful. I don't know the answer, i've been out of the pc market for about 3 years hence my question.

Sorry if dopey was found to be insulting, not the intended action.

Been waiting for this card to drop for ages, dont think i have seen it lower than £100, think my motherboard can only take a single slot card, so i bought one. I will be wanting to hook up my pc to my tv via hdmi, so i take it i can use this dvi to hdmi cable and will i get sound?

I am currently using a ati 4350 hdmi cardX) so i assume i will get a decent jump in performance with the 5770?

Huge! You should get at least 10x the performance, quite possibly more.

According to Tomshardware Heirarchy Chart, moving up 3 level should give you a worthwhile increase in performance, the difference between a 4350 and a 5770 is 15 levels:

Apart from being a racist comment, you are entirely wrong. I live in Bolton and I shop at Scan. They are very knowledgeable, very helpful, and very price competitive. You should withdraw your comment because it just makes you look like an idiot. Bolton has a large Asian community and Scan is owned by Asians, just like the fondly remembered Empire Direct was.

The card is now £82.28 inc VAT http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-xfx-hd-5770-pci-e-21-%28x16%29-4800mhz-gddr5-gpu-850mhz-800-cores-2x-dvi-mini-dp-single-slot
