Just wondering but wouldnt it have been better to get a 6870 for £10 - £20 more?

I've done some quick googling on exactly that.......

They appear to be pretty similar, but some say that the 6870 will do better in a Crossfire solution, than a 5850 will in the same configuration.
Then some say that the 6870 is already near it's overclock potential, whereas the 5850 has overhead to overclock into.

I think it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. The Black Editions of both are very similar price on Ebuyer...........the 6870 is 'faster' but the 5850 has more cores.........I've no idea what difference either of those makes, so I'm going to buy the 6870 as it's newer and I want to Crossfire it at some point.

To be honest, if you spend that sort of money on a graphics card, you'll be pleased with the result no matter what you choose..........

There are always going to be an equal amount of people who like one card over the other......so I reckon there's no real answer to the question......... :)

Hot, great to see these finally coming down in price nicely although personally I'm waiting to see how much the 6950 and 6970 are (out 13th December I think).

I would go for the 6870 over the 5850. It is a bit faster. I would also pay the extra and avoid XFX.
