doesn't work either.. seems it only works on cheaper cards combined with another item to get over £100
#2
Should do - in the email from XFX the 5870 is listed as one of the ones eligible.
#3
Voted hot, It does work, received the code myself, only works on HD 5870 (without game) and single slot HD 5770 when you buy two £150ish, it also works on two other cards for htpc's...

nice price for a top card. Love my 5870, just wish the drivers were a little more robust.

The 6870 isn't as good as the 5870.

What's wrong with the drivers? I've only had one Catalyst issue with my 5850 in well over a year.

I'd take the 6870 and give it a slight overclock nudge to take it over the 5870 (although you could overclock that as well admitedly) but the 6870 uses less juice for almost identical performance so...

In terms of pure processing power this beats 6870 by a notable margin. But you're unlikely to see that difference between the two when playing at full hd res or lower.
Also this is XFX. The worst brand ever.

This is a good bit better than a 6870. Xfx are no worse than any other brand they just had a bad rap for a few years. CS is improving, I have two of these in crossfire and they are super fast.

Surely the worst brand ever would be BFg seeing as last year before they shut down they were sending back peoples RMA cards with a letter of apology saying they were no longer honouring warranty on their products.

Voltage control is locked on these newer ones so for overclocking you need to flash a new bios on them or you will struggle to overclock mine on ly do 890/1275 then need a voltage increase

Thirded. This is super cheap for a fast card. I've owned lots of cards from different manufacturers and wouldn't say XFX are any worse than the others. Shame they don't adopt the life time warranty arrangment they use in the USA.

Have some heat.

question is then really - 1 of these or two 5830 in xfire - OCUK have sapphire extreme at £72 ea- free del for me too

answer - 1 x 5870 me thinks :)

SEconded the 6790 is on a par with the 768mb gtx 460 maybe slightly better along way behind a 5870, The 5870 matches the 6950 for performance but is £50+ cheaper now
#22
Purchased and heat. Not sure if I should thank you though given the aggro this is gonna cause with her after the upgrade from the 4870, and the incessant gaming that shall procede...

Would i be able to use this card with this motherboard: Biostar H55-HD?
1 Like #24
Thanks OP, ordered as a nice upgrade to my old 8800GTX.

MFC - The motherboard should be fine so long as it has PCI express. You may need to upgrade your PSU if it's just a basic one.
#25
#26
Twice the price of a 5830 with 25% speed increase, I'm not sure yet.

MFC - nice computer :)
Sure motherboard would work with the card. As mentioned, need a decent PSU - something around 500W+ and some spare connectors would be ideal.

montblanc - This isn't much for a good graphics card, seeing as most PCs it would go would have cost £400+. Think of it like £470 vs £530 with 25% speed increase...
#28
I don't need the rest of the pc though, only the graphics card X)
#29
thanks, bought!

Code still working, ordered yesterday.
