Lol, yeah, I thought I'd better get in quick!

Great find there. Good price for this card. These are the prices they should have been at release! Great scaling in Crossfire too.

I own this card and its a good little performer, pretty much equal to a 5850 but it uses less power to get there. Noisy fan once you set it up to actually keep the temps down though.

If you own the card I bow to your better judgement (I've only got a lowly 4850) but every benchmark I've seen reckons the 6870 outperforms the 5850 by around 10% and is closer to the 5870 than the 5850:

Do you also happen to have a HD 5870 with the latest drivers to compare it to? :{

Still, this is an excellent card for the money.

It was £123.41 on pixmania a couple of weeks ago when they had that 5% off sale, like 9 quid delivery tho :<

Seems a good deal, can someone link the best card on the market right now? - Really would like to know.

I got this today from Aria. Also includes Dirt 3 cd key to download from Steam.

Edit: My fail this is XFX and not Saphire. However according to the AMD site XFX are eligible to get the game as well.

Ordered this last night but follow the link to claim the games and it shows you must have applied for the games by the 14th of June so me might have issues claiming the free titles. Seems to have been updated to September now so all good.

As for the questions of performance the 6870 beats the 5870 in most games and also scales better for crossfire there are some great reviews out there as i did a weeks research before making my choice, I was going for the 560ti or the 6950 1gb version but neither could justify there way higher price of around £45 for minimal gain over the 6870 then there's the extras that the 5870 doesn't have like HDMI 1.4 for 3D and is more efficient and cooler running and as the drivers mature more the lead will become more over the 5870. If you own the 5870 theres no reason to upgrade as the difference is small but for a new card you would be mad to buy the best of the last generation over this and pay more for it as the the 5870 is retailing around the £150 mark.

Depends on the PSU and its output, wattage is more of an indicator than a yard stick.

This is just not true :<

You can see it behind in most of the tests here, and on any other site where they're compared.

If you had done the reading ive done over the last week you wouldn't say that as i had 3 cards i was looking at the 560, 6950 and 5870 but every review i read seemed to show that the 6870 could hold its own and in most cases edge out the more expensive 5870. I had no reason to lie about my findings as the 6870 wasn't even a choice but i couldn't ignore it and its like all benchmarking some sites will say the 5870 some the 6870 it just depends on games and rig setup so we could argue all day over this. I can see why a few of you seem to be sore over this especially if you bought the massively expensive 5870 18 months ago thinking that you had the fastest card there was for it to be challenged by a card that's retailing for £124, just remember that the 5870 had a good run in a world where GPU's are beaten by cheaper cards after weeks, so you've had your moneys worth and its still a good performer today.

Lame... just bought this from Aria yesterday for a total of £135 :(

Turns out I can't use it in my pc anyway as I need 2 6 pin pci-e cables as well. Now I have to splash out more. Safer bet with a console methinks :(

You can use converters to convert the big plastic 4pin connectors to 6pin pci-e ones. Not sure if you get any in the box with this particular card.

I was thinking about that, but the setup instructions specifically say not to use an adaptor. Wish I could return this card and buy this deal :p I just bought this http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/ocz-500w-modxstream-pro-atx-power-supply-unit-07656651-pdt.html to go with it :)

People aren't sore, just pointing out that you are plain wrong.

Here's another benchmark proof:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3987/amds-radeon-6870-6850-renewing-competition-in-the-midrange-market

It's no surprise that a card with 1600 unified shaders outscores a card with 1120, and 80 TMUs versus 56.

How many do you need to admit you're wrong?

With the recent deals on gtx 560 and now this does it mean the price is come down generally? Are new gen card due or something or just good deals at the moment? If we wait a few months will they get to about £100 or im i just being optimistic?

At the moment I am upgrading my 4 yr old E6600 pc (which i plan to OC to 3.2Ghz) - current card is a 9600GT. Am tempted to get this to stretch more life - wonder if its worth the punt

SOunds power hungry. I should probably upgrade the 430W Corsair PSU first before thinking of getting this.

The fasted card on the market at this time is:

AMD Radeon HD 6990
http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/gpu-amd/radeon-hd6990-pci-e-%283072-cores%29

A worthy but slightly slower contender is:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590
http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/gpu-nvidia/geforce-gtx-590-pci-e-%281024-cores%29

Both are dual GPU cards, AMD went all out and decided to heck with the PCI-Express certification and blew the lid on power consumption to be fastest. It is literally two 6970's in Crossfire on a stick (PCB). It is also not in stock :(

May be a typo, but a 340 does exist as an OEM card.

Worth a punt on an old e6600 + 9600gt system that I plan to OC?
