I'm looking to upgrade from my LG G2 16gb. Is this worth looking at? Is 32gb sufficient for general use?
#2

I've been suggesting this phone to you in at least 5 other threads in the last 1-2 months.

But what is the warranty like & does this come with a Global / International rom?

Cant find it?

Surely worth paying extra for the international edition so it can be used when you go on your holibobs or if you change network??!! Also talk of UK cross network roaming in the future.

Be aware import and duties would be very expensive if you get hit with them.
I've always used the cheap, slower delivery options and never had a problem over the years. Anecdotally, paying for faster delivery method means you're far more likely to get stung.

Thanks - stuck between the Max and the Mi5 - Whats the difference between the normal ones and the international edition?

International version has google play store installed and should also be free of chinese bloat/spy-ware.
On some phones they also mean additional bands (e.g. Band 20 on 4g so O2 compatible) - I dont know if thats the case on the MI5.

yeah 4g on o2 is compatible with mi5
EDIT: 4G O2 is not compatible with Mi5, thanks for correction Slinky. http://www.4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/

There could possibly be a cheaper deal for mi5 on 11/11 [some national singles holiday in China at that day] at the likes of aliexpress etc. So may be worthwhile waiting a few days before buying

Thanks for your help - will this work on 02 in UK? I really wanted black and cant see an "international edition" in black at all? http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xiaomi-Mi5-5-15inch-FHD-Android-6-0-Type-C-3GB-64GB-4G-LTE-Smartphone-372920.html

About specifically wanting the black version, I see where you're coming from & this video review (though in Chinese) will alert other buyers about the 'black border' issue (which I'm assuming puts you off) - this can be seen from 1:10 - 1:30:

Xiaomi Mi5 Black Edition Experience vs White Edition

Also, read this article: Deceitful Black Borders Around Screens Need to Go

Don't know about being deceitful, but definitely spoils the look.

Thanks for the heads up on the black border Crossbow I was none the wiser, I can see Pixl8's appeal for the black version now.

You see this is something that my partner will spot a mile off so black is the new white. But again - they dont seem to have any?

Would you know the approx Import cost for this?

What about the Three network?

4G works on three. Most of the companies that do 4G work on the phone. If not, just check the site

I've heard people being charged £30 on a £100 handset.

From looking online it says just 20% VAT plus a handling fee to DHL/Royal Mail.
This phone would be around £50 I'd guess depending on which courier is used. Royal Mail is cheaper at £8.

Great price for a top end phone (though the camera is more mid range level).

Ordered the Max for 148 from Geekbuying, should I have spend 50 more on this? I can always refund through paypal, ordered it 7 days ago standard china shipping

Any advice on Max vs. Mi5 would be greatly appreciated, I am very undecided, this looks like the better phone but the Max looks nice, and its already ordered :/ cheers

Same here but cant seem to be finding the worthy successor....

The Mi5 has a Snapdragon 820 processor - same as most of the flagship phones, so is in a completely different performance class to the Mi Max.

That said, I don't believe that you can actually get a Mi5 with support for LTE band 20 so you'll be out of luck if you are hoping to use 4G on O2. Also, don't try and bend it - the chassis fails catastrophically with too much twisting unlike most phones which will flex a bit. Shouldn't be an issue as long as you're not putting it in the pocket of your skinny jeans...

Otherwise, an excellent value phone. Go to notebookcheck for a really in-depth review.

The Zuk Z2 is probably a better phone overall (with 4GB/64GB) which can be found cheaper, but the Mi5 has a better camera. Also ROM support for the Z2 isn't as good.

No point, as far as I'm aware the international version doesn't have any additional bands. The phones unlocked anyway so won't make a blind but of difference to network access if you are on holiday.

Only difference will be the ROM itself . In which case I would always advise flashing a clean ROM anyway

It's the same Sony sensor on the one plus 3 and mi5 but from the samples I have seen (and I have the mi5) xiaomi have done a better job with the software for the camera

Hi, can you confirm how much you were charged for clearing customs and which retailer you purchased from?

100% incorrect, this will NOT work on o2 4g. It only has full 4g compatibility with EE and their partner networks.

I got it through geekbuying.com and DHL shipping. Asked then in chat to declare it at $30 so I had to pay £4 customs.

Do yu mean the max doesn't bend well? I've heard of that but the mi5 generally people say it is solid, unlike the max.

Yep that's what all the reviews say.

The s7 kills it in low light levels, but in day light there really isn't much in it.

Could this go horribly wrong by declaring it a different cost to the actual amount, incase the item goes missing and the amount is not covered and end up out of pocket? walk me through it ?
