When you say they don't require a hub, does that mean I can just order one of these and plug it in. Then I can control it via smart phone? How do you pair the bulb to the wifi?

Hit and miss, I think you were lucky within 11 days.
I ordered a mi band from gearbest and was pleasantly surprised that it arrived within 3 weeks so ordered another. Over a month later and still nothing.

You probably hit the Chinese New Year where everything closes down for a couple of weeks!

Thanks OP for that alert/link.

We started with some plain white Yeelights as part of a general Xiaomi Mi Smart setup with their Gateway and various gizmos.

First Yeelight RGB bulb purchase 27/12/16 cost us £15.96, and even more expensive now just 'browsing' on the site, so a decent saving via your link as want another 3 now.

Tip: If you find the LED bulbs not bright enough (eg for reading) then you can buy E27 Y piece 2-into-1 sockets. Got two of them for under £1.50 delivered from China on eBay - and the Mi Home app, which automatically loads Yeelight plug-in to control these Yeelights, you have a 'tile' to combine a group of bulbs (eg 2 in one socket, or other combos). I THINK there may be a Yeelight App as well, but as we want to control Mi stuff too, only use the Mi Home App.

The bulbs are compatible with the Mi Home smartphone App and from memory use a combo of Bluetooth for initial connection and then WiFi network (ie to your Home Router's WiFi Access Point).

The Yeelights work via an App/Wifi and do NOT require or connect thru the Xiaomi Mi Smart Gateway Hub, which is a mains powered [Australian style 230V power plug, where a £1 Poundland adapter was helpful] works with half a dozen Mi Smart 'gizmo's (via wireless ZigBee protocol, similar but different to Bluetooth) such as human movement sensors, push-button switches (eg for door-bell), temp/humidity sensor, door/window opening magnetic based sensor, even Magic Controller cube (a clever cube with about half-a-dozen movements/shortcuts, ie as substitute for controlling via App or sensors/switches)

Pleased to say my lights turned up today by Yodel - ie just a week with their priority despatch - as order c£50.
All RGBs instantly appeared in my Mi Home App (I had turned on Bluetooth, but not sure if it's required) and firmware updated readily.
The Magic "Cube Controller" took a bit longer to work out - and don't overlook that metal lozenge which is the lever to open up the Controller IF you need to [it appears you dont need to, except to get to replace battery CR2450 and to reset link]. A Youtube video revealed all though - look for Xiaomi Mi Magic Cube Controller unboxing setup and quick review. Essentially on Mi Home App open the Gateway go into Device menu then click + Add Subdevice and you see a grid of items to connect. It took a couple of attempts to get mine connected. D
