I think it’s 5% for Quidco and 7% for TopCashBack both excluding Vat and postage.

At this price range and they dump it all on a 15.6 HD WLED TL (1366x768)?
I would expect at least 1600x900.
Very good spec laptop being let down by low resolution.

indeed, and a silly price to make it 1080 too

Fully agree with above comment, great spec but obviously Dell are clearing out stocks of the ageing WLED 1366 panel.

You are correct...I thought it was 10% on XPS

Very hard to read those specs on the Android app... don't think there's mention of it, but there should be... HDMI?
#10
Check out the ebay sellers who swipe up the outlet XPSs. I just got a new XPS (with 1920x1080) screen which is awesome.I purchased from Lapodo, and was very pleased with them.

good deal but dont the monitor or the graphics.

for need the 1080 and i would go at the for a 5650 its much better card.

and for this money well better have blu ray

But still a great price

These run as hot as the first generation?

I had one of these studio XPS laptops - bought it in November and sold it recently. It does what it says on the box - it's definitely fast enough for everything you need to do but the screen really did let it down. The battery life was poor too - granted I only had the 6 cell battery but it lasted less than 2hours in total on high performance mode which I think is pretty bad. With the ac adapted too it became a very heavy laptop to carry around so I wouldn't like to think how heavy this one is with the 9 cell.

I ended up buying a used DELL STUDIO 1557 i7 on fleabay with a 1900x600 screen and it also has the PCMCIA express card port as well as firewire ports and it's quite a bit lighter. Performance is about the same and price is about 20% less.

Having said all that, if you get the quidco on this then it's really great price and for most people this will tick all the boxes.

Doubt it was this machine that you had as these are just out.

I think you mean to say 1600x900 screen

You can add the 1600x900 screen but for 120 more. Not really hot now

2GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M Graphics Card - AWESOME

Using XPS 15 I7 Q740 got them when dell had their misprice and was selling them for £450 :p it’s a good laptop but I total agree on the screen resolution points 768 really spoils it. I’ve been on the lookout on ebay for a replacement screen with higher resolution but they are silly prices.

If you don't mind a slightly bigger machine, right now you can get an Dell XPS 17 (N00X7M013) with a 2410m CPU, Nvidia 550M GPU, 4GB of RAM, a 320GB HDD, 15 months of McAfee AV and a 1600x900 screen for £629 delivered. This is a lot of laptop for the money! Yes the HDD is on the small side but the XPS 17 comes with a spare hard drive bay so you can easily fit a second HDD or an SSD. This doesn't negate the Dell warranty.

If this appeals, you probably need to buy it today as the Dell offers change at midnight tonight. You can of course buy the same machine tomorrow but the combination of £70 off and free delivery doesn't happen very often.

Just follow the DmXDimension link below and apply the £70 off voucher code (which is D5W5STX635BRTT) at the checkout.

- mikegray

Because I wanted an XPS, there were none on the outlet, it was cheaper that direct and didn't take 4 weeks to deliver!

Not ideal I know, but needs must.
#22
Cold.

Was available here for much cheaper!

Can get the XPS 17 inch one for £791.90 still with the voucher code so this is very cold!
#23
17 inch XPS is here at £791.90. Bigger screen, 2gb graphics, with the same quidco etc, for only £12 more!

Not all ebay sellers are outlet snatchers...most laptops are obtained via the auction/tender process that the Dell outlet site set up for re-sellers. Those purchased this way are also only allowed to be listed on ebay as manufacturer refurbished...you can almost guarantee that those 're-sellers' who list as 'new' or 'new other' are the snatchers...with the exception of the big guys like ecomputers etc who buy new from Dell.
#25
Was thinking about this, but went with baseline MBP 2011, much better build than DELL... and moreover, OSX is just amazing!

thanks for your irrelevant story.

by the time you've added 1080p, recovery disk and better network card you are spending about 860ish... being specing it all week :)

Also just in case you can also order via this e-code link.

It gives you 1080p, blueray and better wifi card by default.
And also backlight keyboard if thats important for you:

http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=uk&l=en&cs=ukdhs1&kc=&oc=N00X5M59

it's the lower i5, but you can choose the i7 as well..
#29
Is anyone able to actually order this? Every time I click next or on the Processor icon, it just hangs... I've tried several browsers, and at both home and work.
#30
If you use the code $QKJ?ZRJ1$XMBJ then it will bring it down to £740, excluding any cash back etc..

I'm assuming these still come with the same JBL speakers the previous generation had? Best speakers you'll get on a laptop in this class (or, indeed, several classes above).

have a look at the specs, it has 1080P screen, blueray, wireless, and TV turner (that u cant get via the normal link)

It also has the backlight keyboard, overall if you select this same procesor is about 60quid more...
#35
forgot to say, you can use this same 10% code at the checkout..
#36
I ordered one the other week for £703. Its due to be delivered in the next few days! I can't wait!
#37
I can't get the functions on the website to work either. Clicking anything to configure will hang. Even clicking on "Show list mode" will hang...

The 'laptop' weights like 3kg, looks ugly, doesn't have backlit keyboard and having a high-res screen pushes the price to £1k.

I know why people shell out £500 more to buy a MacBook Pro now :)

okies had mine for a week now ....£701 with 10% discount and a further£40. currently bein tracked by quidco..if i get it makin it ,,£661.... here goes.............................u can only order the backlit keyboard if u buy thro a salesperson on phone or online and if u do this you cant claim ur quidco....i only found out this after mine was on it s way i assumed the backlit key board was standard but no it s a extra £30 plus loss of quidco....kinda wish i had went for it now tho, think it would have a nice feature to have but hey ho...,,.i didnt upgrade the screen resolution too and tbh it s not a problem for me ...i m not a games player but i do like to watch movies and imho it s a good picture quality... i got the 9 cell battery verison...havent really tried it unplugged yet so cant comment on battery life will let u kno when i do...the laptop is heavy prob marketed as a desktop replacement so be warned and i m not overtly keen on plug point comin out of the bac , on my previous laptop it was sitauted at the side which i think i prefer but thats not a deal breaker. it s got hmdi to connect to your tele and usb 3 points so i charge my i pod without startin up the lappy .....doesnt feel like it runs hot but the fan does **** on quite often and is quite noisey....the cam and micro phone is excellent quality and the speakers are the best i ve ever heard..if u like to msn / skpe or listen to music on ur lappie this is the one for u ...the laptop feels quite bulky and as i ve said is heavy but it also feels well made and solid...i like the keyboard alot feels good to type on and the mouse is good too......ohhh forgot to mention it s very fast.. hot.**** off a stick fast......i ve tried to give a honest review and tbh for my needs and for the price, spec and quality, i m very happy with the laptop.
