I was in the market for a quality camera, whilst doing my research, I stumbled up a British company, Y-Cam, giving Google's Nest Cam some serious competition - http://www.appcessories.co.uk/nest-cam-v…

So what happens when the 1 week's free storage has passed? Doesn't seem much of an incentive to me.
All the kit on that website looks massively overpriced.
I mean, whould pay £10 for a 5 metre power extension cable?
this is a massively overpriced piece of kit, ycam are sort of the apple of their market, and they really are not worth the premium. I would imagine you can still connect it to a nvr to store images, or you pay for more cloud storage.
What do you recommend then
foscam?
With cloud storage?
yep, they do it to.

It does for a rolling 7 days. You can download any recordings in that period also has the liveview feature which can be recorded via your phone, tablet or pc.

yeah you can get cameras in Tesco for £30 but not HD, free 7 day record, motion sensing, download and save clips for free, this is as cheap as you can get for a top notch camera

Which one you taking about here, link?
Saw this deal as I'm on the petrol prices email.
As this has been down voted what would people recommend instead? (I agree this unit looks a bit pricey and I don't need cloud back up).
I just want 2 out door cameras that are good quality - wired or wifi connection is fine. And I just want the usual send an alert to my phone if something passes in front of the camera.
I don't really want lots of storage on an external box but it would be useful to have an SD card for recording up to 7 days of instances and then automatically over write once the card is full.
thanks.

I've been waiting for the price on this to come down again on Amazon without any joy. I found it on the Y-Cam website cheaper than it shows on Camelcamelcamel so I've bought it. It records to cloud

If you don't need the cloud backup and don't mind waiting a few weeks then you can get some great ones on Aliexpress etc.

I got some nice 1080P PoE ones for less than £40 each delivered.

AliExpress

I use them to record to my NAS but you can also record to a PC using the provided software.

I personally use the Ucam247 cameras which are very similar in design to these. Same issue with exposed cabling but if you want hard wired which I do it goes with the territory. Yes some models can have wires hidden through the mount into the wall, but if you'd go through the the hassle of cutting the wire, a simple rubber mallet would also easily take out this or any other camera.

I have mine connected to a NAS which records in 1080p permanently and overwrites as required. I ca also view all photos/video remotely as well.

If I wasn't already a big user of UCAM I'd definitely be getting these as the quality from the sensors is awesome.

Recording to the cloud is only as good as your internet connection and wireless speed/coverage. As for the wires, that's careless design regardless of whether it's possble to pull them or not.
I agree that the Trendnet / Hikvision cameras always get good reviews for quality and software. It's also my chosen camera.
I would rather record locally and sync with the cloud for resilience. Cameras powered by POE ethernet is what experience with other wifi cameras tells me works well.
I'm sure there's a market/use case for these cameras. If you're after one, a discount is always great and for that reason, I've not voted either way even if they're not to my requirements.
I think the OP needs to relax rather than go on the defensive - it's a deal and I'm glad it works for you :)
Would you recommend Whale or Dolphin sounds or maybe a bit of Vivaldi?
Try all three and see what suits your personality.

Couldn't understand a word on any of them. Oh well.

Thanks Graham. I have Virgin broadband and it's pretty quick. My mate lives in a village and his broadband isn't great and he uses one without any trouble. I think I'm good.

I bought a 720 hd with 8 cameras, 1tb dvr and cloud backup for 260, off ebay, loads of different kits available, so for one camera it's expensive
Totally different products , this is for inside the house
It was £100 not long ago on amazon , so does drop in price
i use one of my cameras inside, hidden at top of stairs
Have you a link to the system or similar , I thought they would be too big to hide

i have adapted a pir case to hide the camera lens, you can buy the pir cameras about 15 on eBay and wire them in

Surely you can get the same effect with a std CCTV IP camera for about 25 quid from ebay? (less the cloud storage).?

Cheaper wireless webcam recording on your pc :)

These are really poor low quality camera's you only need to look at the reviews... pointless in having one just buy a decent system

Could you recommend a decent system please as I want to get something set up soon?

Also, what is the quality issue you refer to? These are rated 4.2 / 5 on Amazon.

I got this email too and the BACK2SCHOOL code sounded a bit strange/creepy to me, but the email goes on to say that it is a good time to get a camera, with kids back at school and the house empty during the day.

"It's that time of the year when the kids are back at school, parents head back to work, and houses seem a little bit emptier once the University term kicks in. And with darker nights creeping in, now may be the perfect time to think about the security of your family or home and how Y-cam's HomeMonitor security cameras could help you protect them.

HomeMonitor is unique to all other security cameras in providing 7 day rolling online cloud storage for your motion detected video - totally free of charge!

Monitor whatever you like

HomeMonitor is unique to all other security cameras in providing 7 day rolling online cloud storage for your motion detected video - totally free of charge!

Place a Y-cam HomeMonitor in your hallway so you know when the kids are home from school. Use one in the kitchen to see who keeps raiding the biscuit cupboard! Set one up in your garage so you know that the door or bikes are properly secured. Or use one of our outdoor cameras to keep an eye on your car or receive email alerts when someone approaches your home.
Forgot to mention that if anyone is interested in this offer, it's only available until midnight on Monday 28th Sept.

Thought it was a good deal as these are £120 on Amazon but if anyone has seen these cheaper, feel free to post it.
