Yale Premium Alarm - £93.19 @ Homebase

For those who missed out on the Argos deal, don't panic, just buy it cheaper!!

I just picked up this alarm system from Homebase for £93.19. It is on sale for £167.19, but they do a price match policy and are happy (strangely) to match the argos price, as they are the same company!

Plus, they will refund 10% of the difference!

Just take a printout of the argos deal into the store and fill ya boots!

#2
Excellent , well done

nice one ;-) wonder what the stock levels are like?

still can't decide if we really want one though, we were burgled earlier in the year, kind of think its a bit late now plus have very expensive insurance to cover things!

oh and great first post, congrats!
#4
nice and easy to setup as well, bought one last year...
#5
note - unless your alarm reports to an alarm reporting centre (ARC, monthly cost) and they phone the police, the police will not come out to burglar alarms.
#6
looks a great deal
#7
Ive got this in my office, easy to setup and calls you when the alarm goes off, I didnt want to pay for redcare. I paid £150 for this and that was cheap 4 months ago. Heat added.

Did you need any proof of stock levels at argos as they are not available at any argos stores or for home delivery?

I've had a cordless Yale system for over 10 years, and it's been great, no trouble. We did buy a remote control device to turn it on/off, which saved effort - they didn't include it in the pack, and I didn't see 1 listed in the Argos deal pack the other day.

Can recommend them for extra convenience. The Yale helpline was really useful too.

They didn't ask for any proof, apart from the argos price printout. The woman did go to check with the manager, but came back and said it was fine!

Waste of time just like car alarms, people just ignore them and walk past.

We had one going off for a whole week when a family were away on holiday and no-one checked, they were just peeed off with the noise.

i would hate to live next to you :)
i would hope my neighbours would be a lil more concerned.
True its a deterrent , then again burglars might think you got something worth nicking.

I wonder if jagielka had a yale alarm. lol

Hopefully ill be able to get this next Thursday when I get paid!

Yep, printout straight off argos website. The 10% off this weekend will no doubt come off the £167 rather than the pricematch price, so might be worse off as the 10% difference will be less.

I tried price matching this a few days ago, but they refused :x

They said they do not price match sale prices, so they wouldn't match the argos one (£199 reduced to £99)

Is this true or are they talking out of their arses?

Also refused to price match for me, said they didn`t price match Argos, when I argued they said they would price match them on instore products but the price difference was too much. I was getting no where so gave up.

Anyone else had any experience with this

I'd doubt very much that you can get a fairly good alarm at this price, especially as it's battery operated. The first thing I did when we moved into our house and inherited an alarm just like this was uninstall it and just left the external boxes outside.

Our wired NACOSS alarm cost over 12 times this and for a reason. Personally i'd save my money until I could get a decent wired system. Or just get one straight off if you can.

either you have terrible neighbours or your alarm goes off randomly everyday, my immediate neighbours investigate any alarm and check on my house when on holiday ...and I do same

it's just communication ...if you are not personable or haven't built relationships then your alarm is useless ...at least in my end of london

I'll give this a try, I have a valid reservation print out from argos and a homebase close to me... sweet H & R

Ahh yes possibly i have one already so i will take my receipt with me to prove i have it i expect it all depends on who serves you.

We have one of these for pick up today.

To be honest when you look at the list of parts included, I doubt this thing costs more than 10 quid - electronics cost pennies to produce.

pricematching is a bit of a pain BUT i got my local to pricematch and it's 10% day so revise your title laddie this is an 89.99 dealie'O if I could heat twice I would - super post!!! P.S. the 10% pricematch is off the £167 then the 10% deal (today and tomorrow) knocks it down to £89.99
*they were surprised by the price variance and wouldn't match, called their supervisor who asked the till to check my reservation date that it was still in stock ...thankfully i had a valid printed argos reservation from miles away in chelmsford ...doubt i could have got more than one ...no complaints

Ironically Homebase is owned by Argos... yet they don't price match?!?!?

Still a great deal.

To be completely honest I know what you are saying, monitored alarms are reported to the Police when 2 pir's/contacts are tripped, but you have to pay the monitoring company for that contract and (in NI at least) a further payment to the Police. This entitles you to a certain number of call-outs before they no longer respond - obviously the tripping of two sensors almost completely rules out false-alarms.

In my experience I have called the Police at least three times in relation to neighbours alarms and they have always been only too happy to come around and check windows/doors etc. They also came to a previous property that I lived in and checked the grounds etc. and that wasn't a monitored alarm either.

A bells only system like this is a great deterrent and lets be realistic, a burglar would have to have a lot of steel to remain in your property whilst the alarm was ringing out in the street. This particular alarm will call you if it is tripped so you can call the Police yourself, or get a neighbour to check your house, before disabling it via a touch phone.

Great deal, heat and rep added - I bought one of these at Argos the other day

i just rang 3 stores in the anglia region all happy to price match. one would only beat

I've been thinking about one of these alarms; at least two neighbours have them and are pleased with them. This deal prompted my purchase today - thanks for details OP and others.

I found the item in stock this morning at Argos in Ashford and Burgess Hill (one at each). I reserved at Ashford, printed out confirmation and took it to local Homebase and asked for price match. Manager perfectly happy to match Argos and checked offer price online there. I got it for £89.99 after today's automatic 10% discount, and got the '10% off card' valid to end October and Nectar points too! Manager kept my printout to evidence price match; fair enough.

If anyone wants the Argos item 700/1466 reserved until Saturday at Ashford New Rents, just quote my reservation 144720 - but don't all rush at once. Still a good deal at £99.99.

By the way, the Homebase '10% off card' is in a folder and there were lots on the customer services desk at my branch. I think they could be scrounged (or taken) without even spending the qualifying £30.

this is just a thought and would love to hear yours as well...

do you think a thief who wants to robb your house doesn't know how to disable this very basic alarm...? this is like the "pop idol" version of alarms...

you could get this and paint it the colour of your house...the yellow kinda screams..."i've got stuff for you in my house!!!"

Is that why ADT alarms are yellow? :whistling:

erm, disabling this alarm would mean gaining access to it or the bell box, so ladders around the front of the house doesn't look suspicious does it? Either that or cut the telephone line and leave bell box to ring merrily, that would disable the call-out part of any alarm apart from ones with GSM (mobile phone technology), but again the alarm would sound alerting anyone in the area that a burglary was taking place.

On tripping the alarm (via other means than entry/exit procedure) alarms sounds instantly, and dials out straight away.

I don't see the problem?
#36
the only place i can find any in stock at is the isle of wight, to reserve online that is
#37
I've had a Yale Wireless alarm for the last 6 years and my next door neighbour for the last 5 years. We were both burgled just before we got them and we haven't been since. That's convincing enough for me.

In fact the only time I've lived in a house without a visible alarm in the last 20 years was my current house and we got burgled - hence the purchase of the Yale. Every other house I've lived in has had an alarm and I never once had an attempted entry during that time.

It is a deterrent.

?

And don't forget the anti-tamper functions on the bell box and the control panel....

And I don't buy the "this tells everyone you have stuff in your house to nick" line... what house doesn't have stuff in worth nicking? Only difference is a house with an alarm is a lot less inviting to nick stuff from than a house without an alarm to break in to.

No security measure will stop a very very determined thief... its all about making your house look less appealing to break into than next doors

Excellent

I have a reservation code for Argos until tomorrow so i'm going to take it down to Homebase and see if they price match plus the 10%.

If it works someone is welcome to my reservation code for Argos Halesowen.
