But not to all. Good deal in the right circumstances. Heat added.

If it had HDMI connectivity, it probably still would be £599.99 !!!

umm likewise a nice amp but no HMDI - you may not have HDMI at the moment but it is here to stay - so on that basis lukewarm

Agreed HDMI is here to stay but don't our TV's have HDMI sockets? I've got a Yamaha amp with a 360, Sky HD box and DVD player all connected nicely to the TV with all the audio via amp so IMO HDMI not vital in the amp.

This is much, much better for only £40 more:thumbsup:

Don't these people know that Black is the new Black (in other words - has anyone noticed that all these good recent deals are on Silver units?)

Soon will be the time when someone will visit your house & they'll say "hehe...bought your AV amp in 2006 eh?"

The Yammys are "Titanium" - a much subtler finish than the silver of yore and also a finish that fits in very well with black, which is the current finish de jour.

A very good finish for a big slab of metal and it does have a pretty good WAF in our abode:thumbsup:

although hdmi is very usefull, but with the yamaha amps you need to have them switched on to carry the signal through to your tv. i have the 861 and happily live with sky hd and pioneer dvd sound going into the amp via optical, the hdmi leads from both devices go direct to my tv... i find the sound far better over optical than hdmi....(imho)

I have an HD-DVD player and PS3 player routed through the amp via HDMI with Sky HD direct to TV via HDMI and optical to amp as well as XBOX360, PC and SD-DVD player direct to TV and their audio out to the amp.

Works a treat as it lets the HD players perform the audio functions for the latest audio types while I can keep the amp off for day to day viewing or use it for full effect.

Great sound from the Yammy, while it looks and feels a quality piece of kit and the price is a steal:thumbsup:

No support for High Definition audio. imo your buying last generation technology. Hence the price i guess.

See above. You don't need it as you send the signal PCM and let the player handle the decoding:thumbsup:

Only HDMI has sufficient bandwidth for DTS MA and Dolby TrueHD. If your outputting BR disc audio via Optical you aren't getting the above formats as intended.

seem to get 6.1 dts fine through optical......... hdmi 1.3 not 1.2 required for full hd sound , 1.3 costs the extra over 1.2 hdmi

The Yammy handles PCM audio through HDMI - PCM is basically the digital master form of the film's audio before it is losslessly "zipped" into Dolby True HD and DTS HD MA. When True HD and DTS MA are decoded by the player it becomes PCM again. All three are essentially the same thing in the end. All you need is a receiver that will accept a 7.1 PCM stream, which the 861 does.

Yes and it is a better option. I was just pointing out that the Amp specifically mentioned in THIS thread doesn't support HD audio.

more speakers for your options .... to be honest i would sugest only going upwards of these not any lower or you'll find yourself wishing you'd spent a bit more..
