Hi everyone, long time reader of the site, first time poster.

The actualy price of this this item at Best Buy isn't really a deal, £350 is the going rate and is widely available else where (Richer Sounds etc).

However, having just ordering this afternoon - Quidco is tracking at £52.50, which potentially makes this sub £300 - pretty good deal is the cash back comes off. Free delivery as well.

I think the Quidco/Best Buy 15% ends tomorrow, so you'll have to be quick.

Want to share this information I got when haggling for a deal on the V667 and onkyo 608 (Found on AV forums that he was offering £50 discount to AV forums members):

"We certainly can supply you with those amplifiers. The RXV667 would come out at £296, and an 608 at £395. We’re currently having problems getting hold of the 608’s, but stock should be through soon. RXV667’s are in stock in black.

FYI, I have gone for the Onkyo 608 for a change (I have been using Yamaha before).

I think we need some sort of icon or something to identify those who are spinning out the Loughborough guy Onkyo 'joke' from genuine questions ....

I have a techie question, actually I'll be very interested if anyone knows the answer.

From a high quality audio source (such as DTS master audio) you output the sound directly in DTS to an external amplifier (like this one) for decoding THEN you change the settings on your Xonar sound card to convert and process the sound on the card into raw PCM 192 / 24bit for no decoding externally just "amplification" which would sound better? or is it dependant on whether the amp's sound processing is as good as the Xonar?

This is pretty good going to get a discount from a Hifi/AV retailer. In the past it has been my normal first step to head down to my local Richer Sounds, Sevenoaks, AudioT and other independant retailers to haggle a bit ... and you can often get a good deal, or 'match' the internet prices, or some decent cables / accessories thrown in.

With this model having recently been reduced in price from £450 to £350 I didn't think there would be any more room for discounts, so when I saw the chance of 15% quidco, jumped at it.

Good for you... If he made me the offer for £296 for the Yamaha a bit ealier, I would have gone for it instead of the Onkyo 608 for £380 from somewhere else.

I was under the impression that the most desired method would be for the source (bluray player, pc sound card etc) to output the audio 'untouched' ... and this is what is refered to as bitstream (ie a stream of bits of data exactly as they come off the disc) ... and then all the decoding/processing done by your AV Receiver.

You could argue though, that actually the most desired method is to have the device with the best quality components doing the decoding/processing.

Or even that the end result (ie sound quality) is more affected by the d/a process and amplification rather than the digital processing.

*Please note, I'm no expert and stand to be corrected on any of the above*

Very, very nice for the price!

I have no speakers... I was thinking about the full set systems. I presume this doesn't have a dvd/blueray builtin either does it. I think I may just give this one a pass as I have no understanding what so ever about these.

I've just joined Quidco and ordered one of these amps :)

How and when will I know whether my order has attracted the cashback of £52.50 please?

Sorry - just new to this cashback lark - had b een considering this amp for a while, but the large amount of cashback has just sealed the deal. However, if for some reason this will not come off for me, I'd rather order locally, where I can easily take it back if say a fault developed.

BTW I 've already added my bank account details

EDIT

Just spotted this:

"Cashback is not paid on Best Buy Entertainment purchases" I assume they mean media like DVDs and Blurays?

Scrap that last question.....

I see when I now log in again it is showing £52.50 cash back.

Happy days! Cheers OP :)

Anyone Know if you can rename the hdmi ports
e.g.

HDMI1 = Xbox 360
HDM2 = PS3
HDMI3 = Sky HD
HDMI4 = PC
#26
Not too sure how these work.

I have a bluray, media player with hdmi and dvd player, sat. system, freeview recorder with scart, plus a wii.

Can I feed all of the above through the receiver instead of directly to the tv or do I have to do both?

Thanks

Mine should be here today

Than:D:Dks

You plug everything with a HDMI socket into the receiver HDMI sockets, and then connect HDMI out to TV HDMI. The Freeview recorder, Wii and anything else without HDMI you can connect via composite.

Mine should be here today :D
