Basically - this is the best AV receiver/amp deal I could find. it's a model released last year, and is supplied with a 2 year warranty.

Anyone looking for home cinema kit on a budget would be seriously advised to consider this. The quality and connectivity absolutely destroy any of the all in one systems. The models below this appear to be selling at 50% higher prices by the looks of things, which is ridiculous.

Also does 1080p upscaling/upconverting from analog video sources into a single hdmi cable to the TV, which is nice, and passes video/sound to the TV when the amp is on standby.

It is ex-display allegedly but I've received mine and it is pristine, I would never have guessed it'd been out of the box (and still doubt it)

The blurb from the website:
Increasing it's HDMI inputs to a total of four, and adding HDMI pass through, the RX-V765 heads up Yamaha's 2009 series of RX-V AV receivers. High definition Dolby and dts decoding combine with 7.1 channels and 1015W of output power for an impacting audio experience. iPod and Bluetooth readiness deliver an expanded range of audio options, and a compressed music enhancer renews the high and low frequencies of MP3 and WMA audio files. YPAO automatic system calibration optimizes your audio to your listening area.

Looks like an incredible deal to me, ex-display yes but with a 2 year warranty.

I've ordered as an upgrade to my non-HD receiver, this one will upconvert analogue fully so is ideal for my other sources.

Heat and rep from me!

Thanks - yeah I thought it was great, since this was what £500-600 or so a year ago and still around £350-450 everywhere else currently.

the 2yr warranty did sway me a lot on the ex-display side, but I honestly don't think mine had been taken out of the box (unless perhaps literally opening the box to show someone the connections or sonething)

I just hope the "but you could buy a phillips all in one dvd system" brigade don't send it sub-zero since it really is a fantastic deal.

what about onkyo tx-sr 308 £199 at richer sounds and yes i know no name brand lol hahahaha

this is *much* better than the Onkyo 308. and I like Onkyo. the 308 is this years entry level model, this yamaha 765 was pretty much 'mainstream flagship model' last year. I actually chose to buy this over the Onkyo 607 - which itself is much better than the 308 too.

basically - I would buy this, or if you really want to go Onkyo, RS have some 607's at £250 I think. they come with 1yr warranty, this has 2yrs.

And *second hand* these are going for £300 on AVForums, as opposed to about £180-200 for the onkyo 607. I'd take that as a strong hint this was the better deal.

Yeah, I don't know how many they have in stock but mine says dispatched. Really happy and looks like an amazing spec for the price.

I'm not enough of a techy to know which is the better model, but the Yamaha is about £350 everywhere else and the Onkyo is £200 pretty much everywhere. Not sure if that's a definitive answer but price is usually a good guide? You're right about "unnamed brands" though, that dude is now an internet legend... hahaha

Hey PR1 - I got a dispatch email and it all seems AOK (fingers crossed). I did order pretty much as soon as you posted tho. :)

Cool sounds like at least a couple of people got in on it then - enjoy guys :)

I received mine this morning and, like PR1, mine looked like new. The only 'dodgy' bit seems to be the manual, which looks like a photocopy ... though maybe that's how they come. It also has a sticker on the side of the box saying 'refurbished by yamaha' ... so I guess these are refurbs rather than ex-display.

Edited By: marble on Sep 03, 2010 12:50: Added info about refurb sticker
