So, is it only me that buys a good quality phono jackplug lead & uses his existing bedroom Dab unit, the JBL for by the pc or the main stereo? .. etc etc.
Most of the ipod branded accys (eg speaker units) are god-awful sounding, there just seems to be a plethora of overpriced sound docks, for ££££'s that are pretty gash.

It's a Yamaha; quality stuff, a very good price for the unit and it looks very slick too!

Yamaha's a quality brand it might have been overpriced at £200 but for £99.99 i dont think so.
I dont have a DAB radio alarm but when i saw this bought it as it will charge and play tunes from my iPhone :-D

good find just placed order for 1 defo HOT on this 1

Thanks.Hot for me. just ordered.

I want one of these but a) I don't have an iPod and b) I have a Yamaha stereo which I love to bits. It's such a sexy unit but I guess I have no need for one lol! Will hold it's value regardless - my Dads old Yamaha is still going strong and it's over 20 years old, sounds better than pretty much every other stereo I have heard.
#8
Oh, I'm tempted to get this as I've been looking for a DAB/iphoe thingy. Someone put me off this quick!

..In reply, to the yamaha + quality, (so-so) I used to work in the hi-fi trade & whilst some are ok (as with alot) others are not (look at that ixos cube for instance)
My point being it seems that everyone looses their heads for a dock with generally crap speakers when they've got just as good if not better at home.
I've just had to do exactly the same where the wife is concerned & show her the inputs on various QUALITY sonic performing items around the house (around 7 in all) ..much better to stop, think & maybe invest in a £20 lead (eg an Arctic from Richer Sounds) thats a jack connector rather than spend sheds on dross that luther wouldn't put his name to!

That is a sexy piece of kit, not in the market for 1 but hot from me
#11
Why are DAB radios still so expensive? Roll on satelite radio...
#12
thats probably one of the best looking docks of seen, good spec and yamaha as well. well worth the money if you ask me :)
#13
Does this have shielding, so you dont have to put the iphone in airplane mode?

Sorry, are you saying this does not sound good?

I think some people are missing the point, this unit is ideal for use in a bedroom as a clock/radio and music player. I am sure that is where the majority of these will end up and as such the sound quality will be fine.

Clearly it is no match for a true Hi-Fi system used in a living room but that is not what it is designed for!

At £99 it is a good price for a nice unit that will work well in the bedroom. If you really want more then look at the Yamaha M430 or similar.

Looks very nice. I dont have an ipod/phone though...

Is it me or is the black one sexier?

White iPod docks are soooooooo grating these days!

Personally I think people are crackers to be paying £100 for what amounts to a glorified bedside clock radio.

That's part of my problem with the whole 'dock' thing, I really just want decent quality speakers at a sane price and so far (the occasional deal on a Klipsch dock aside) they all seem to be ridiculously over-priced and poor or low quality.
Bolt on a little clock if you like, just don't try telling me it's a feature that's really worth anything, it isn't.

I'm also hacked off with the whole 'iPod-centric' nature of the them, what about those of us who don't particularly like iPod?
It's true you can often get 3.5mm universal jacks to run anything with them but why no universal USB for charging and linking?
Why not a truly universal docking socket? :x

TBH it seems to me that we're all expected to be sad fashion victimes & that the instant they put 'i' anything on a product all sanity in relation to pricing vanishes.

I guess this is a good price for a Yamaha unit (& even there MR GUS is totally right, try before buy, they are not all great) but I have to try very hard in seeing the point in spending more than £30 on a bedside clock radio.
What on earth for?

.....and I'm also far from convinced about the UK choice in DAB (which is little more than another scam new product to boost prices for mere radio - which I do love actually - up to a ludiocrous level for a while, IMHO).
I keep reading the UK jumped too early & picked the wrong sort (apparantly we ought to have gone for the DAB+ standard like the rest of the developed world nearby) and so its likely that we will all be asked to switch again in the next decade.

DAB is supposed to offer us lots of new features but as far as I can make out only the most expensive ones have them (and boy are they expensive) the more affordable do not.

One of the main reasons is so you can wake up to your favourite music rather than depressing news, or, worse, awfully produced radio commercials...

It also makes sure you always know where your ipod is, and that it's fully charged, when you rush for the train!

can anyone comment on the sound quality of this? I have an old bose sound dock which i was looking to replace as it won't charge my iphone. This looks like an interesting alternative. Is it comparable with the bose?

if you don't want to replace it you can fit a 'SCOSCHE PASSPORT' dock adaptor to sort your iphone charging problem. they are about £25 on fleabay

Thats nice but there's nothing stopping all other manufacturers creating their own universal dock, they are just too STUPID to do so. It has frustrated me for years, but Apple are so far the only company smart enough to stick to a connector long enough for people to feel comfortable investing in it.

Sony, Sandisk, Archos etc, all too stupid to do it

been looking around for a iPhone DAB doc in the sales and this looks great - just ordered a black one!

I have to agree with some of the posters here. It seems we get a "dock" but get fobbed off with poor quality speakers. I have something similar but cheaper and quite honestly would have been better off with a small mini hifi for the bedroom with the correct cable for my iPhone. As it is I have to put my iPhone in flight mode otherwise I get awful interference. I tried fobbing it off to my 12 year old son but even he gave it back to me. The only positive is that my iPhone is fully charged by the morning.

With a mini hifi I could have been playing CDs too.

You guys should audtion a Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin, both of these are top draw, things don't ge better than these.

I'll take my life in my hands & say that upon hearing the B&W zepp (NOT IN GREAT CONDITIONS) I wasn't impressed, though it is the best sound I've come across for a dedicated ipod plastic speaker enclosure, still overpriced.
Has anyone with a jackplug tried hooking it into their pure dab (wooden wrap enclosure) ? i'd like an opinion other than my own.
Glad there are a few out there who are of the same mind, I promise I'm not being elitist, or a hi-fi snob, just the general selection isn't even what you'd get out of a basic MOR brand start up hi-fi ..
which is always a shame when MP3 brings so much music to the fore.

theres alot of gimmicky docking & charging but thorough laziness for sound, not much of a bang for your buck, ipod stuff aint cheap, not to mention ridiculous stereo imaging where the L/S are mere inches apart.
#34
Can anyone who has got one please confirm it will charge the iphone and play music without inteference without being in flight mode?
#35
Ordered. Been looking for a good dock/dab radio for a while. Thanks OP. Rep added.

Exactly. Not too sure why Gixxer has got so excited and exercised over this.
There is no universal docking system. I'm a little perplexed the car manufacturers haven't sorted this out either. But they haven't. Fact remains then, that most new cars have an iPod dock option.
In fact, it was what convinced me to switch from PC to Mac along with getting root kits and adware on my XP machine.

Now, life is easy. I buy songs without DRM from iTunes. Sync them to my iPod, plug in car - listen.
Simplez.

As for the deal. A DAB radio in Tesco will cost 30-45 quid for a basic one. So a slightly larger docking one from Yamaha doesn't seem overly high for 99 quid. I don't think its HOT but its a good deal. Certainly nothing to get your panties in a bunch about :)
