YSP30D Psuedo Surround Bar amplifer built in one - £299.95
Closest price £430 homecinema tv

Reviewish type thing:

http://fwd.five.tv/gadgets/audio-video/hi-fi/hi-fi-systems-and-speakers/yamaha-ysp40d

Basically though this is a big long sound bar which is designed to "bounce" the sound around the room, sound quality is surprisingly good for what they are plenty of connections including HDMI ( can take hdmi audio ) optical / coaxial and component. This unit can also take any input and "scale" it and output out of component.

Both have excellent reviews. Any questions please let me know..

This is available to order online for a small delivery charge OR just go into your local shop and order it in with no delivery.

I have the 30d one - friend sold it to me for £100 - What a difference now when listening to tv especially dvd's so much much better than the tv speakers - to be honest I would have paid the full price
good deal

have been looking at alternatives to multi-speaker surround sound setups for a while. only 1 problem.. ewwwwgh silver! :-(

great price tho so have some heat n rep

This unit is silver front with black back... its actually more black than it is silver :?

These are great. So much better than the in built speakers. And brilliant if you don't have much space. But they're not a complete substitution for the real thing. The thing really missing is deep bass that a seperate sub would bring. But you can add that to it at a later date.

Is my assumption correct that these only connect HDMI 720p and therefore not really worthwhile for a full HD TV?

Nope they pass through 1080p quite happily ... so are fine with a Full HD TV. They only "scale" to 720p but scaling is pointless anyway... your tv will do a better job... so don't worry about it

You have the title the wrong way around, should be:

Yamaha YSP30 // Yamaha YSP40DD -- £299.95 and £499.95 Respectively @ Richersounds. AV Sound Bars £150 cheaper than elsewhere! Bargain.

Do these handle HD sound?

I agree, not knocking the OP posting this and the savings over RRP its a hot deal, but I do have to question the substitutional quality and seperation of these compared to spending similar prices on 5.1 speakers, however I understand not everyone has the space.

Those that do have at least a 12ft long room might do better shopping around, you would be able to get decent 5.1 sound to this, my Mission front v61 were 150 quid down from 300 on sale when I bought them, my Wharfedale 8 centre was reduced to 60 quid, An Eltax A10 Subwoofer for 60 quid and a pair of Eltax HT-2 Bi-Polar Rears for 50 quid, whilst a hodge podge mix and match of veritable bargains I am sure for a little over 300 quid anyone that would prefer a full setup with true surround sound but doesnt feel like they can afford it would pay to shop around for clearance deals on discontinued speaker models taking reviews into account and pairing up similar wattage speakers of different brands.

I just bought the HTY-760 and have to say it's pants...the sound is no-where near as good as I had expected. make sure your aware these things don't make it sound like surround sound, it's a gimiick...if it was advertised as a 2.1 I'd be pleased but it's not so it's going back....

Although I personally prefer the true 5.1 setup, these are a great alternative for those unsatified with their TV sound but either not wanting to delve into having speakers and wires all round the place or even for a simple setup like a bedroom or holiday home. Don't expect full surround but do expect far better than your TV (and with an added sub, even better!). Good prices for video capable models. If you don't want video, only sound, and you are on a budget, the Logic3 soundstage is a good, cheaper alternative - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logic3-TX101-SoundStage-Surround-Speaker/dp/B000W49NSY

A good option for those not wanting speakers and wires around the room. And much more effective than any built in TV speakers or 2.1 System.
But they will never replace a true surround set-up, when I worked for a electrical retailer we set-up one of the Yamaha models and although an OK effect it's not going to beat having a pair of speakers behind you.
But at that price ratings go up a bit for the effect.

Would definitely reccomend a subwoofer to use with these.

I also have the HTY-760 and find the sound cracking! No pants in my house!! The 30d is higher up the range, with more directional speakers and should sound even better. Surround is clear and distinct. Though with these boxes, some people have less success with a non standard shaped room. Square or rectangle is best.

good price..

What a shame this isn't in Black, would have snapped it up in a flash. Voted hot

PS - if anyone spots this in Black for this price, please post on here! I can't see it anywhere at anything less than £650.

great bargain good technology voted hot
ideal to place on a wall with a plasma
This deal should not be voted cold or compared to 5.1 setups
This speaker is for people who want psuedo surround without the wires and multiple speakers

Good price. I have the YSP-900 (precursor to the YSP-30d) and for what it is it sounds great. These will not suit all room types/shapes though.

I'd second that, I have a sound bar and the sub woofer makes all the difference.

The London City branch had a couple of black 40Ds when I called on Friday. I was after silver and bagged the last one from the London Bridge branch.
