I would say get yourself some 20kg steel ones if you can, they are better quality, easier to use, etc.

whats the matter with you people? this is a hot deal.

its a great starter weight. not only that but the bars that you get are the longest ive had for dumbbells.

the metal ones have shorter bars. i bought the tesco weights linked above, those wouldnt fit on the bar provided. so i put the metal weights on the bars shown above with this deal and they fit with space to spare.

only buy these if you have any vinyl sets at home like i do, otherwise i agree, better to buy metal, unless you need the extra bars in which case get this cos the bars will deffo come in handy!
#9
sorry....but whats the difference between vinyal and metal bars?:thinking::thinking:
#10
the reason the vinyl bars are longer is because the vinyl weights are alot wider so they need alot more space to get equivalent weights.

Tesco deal was hotter. voted cold

absolute nonsense, these weights can be good for anyone, great for toning & for triceps excercises, dont need alot of weight to use on tri's.

plus they're good for flys too!

plenty of excercises I could think of a use for this weight. heavy is not always better!!

but you cant say these are for a 15 year old that is just rubbish, seriously!!

A load of testosterone floating around in here 'Ooooh nowhere near heavy enough' No doubt chaps with 2" endowments. These are fine for general exercise and high numbers of reps. I go to the gym every day and actually have a set of these at home... okay... they arent as good as others of higher price but for the price they are nice starter dumbells for high reps...

Some of you 'look at my muscle' types need to stop acting like tarts (no offence ladies) and stop posing in Hot Uk Deals for gods sake...

HOT... though they have been cheaper and at this price for a while

Actually instore now?
I'll nip in on the way home and take a look...saying that buying 2 of these is cheaper than a 20KG set on amazon and you get 5KG extra weights!

am i missing something here? i go to the link and they are £22.49, cant find any for £14.89!

expired?

I bought vinyl weights at a cheaper price per kg than this, and I still regret buying them. I would only buy metal weights in the future due to their much smaller size.
#21
Cheaper on bigpockets at 6.81, delivery is 6.99 (unless you pick something for free delivery) but totals at 13.80

Else its 26kg vinyl weights at 11.39 or 35kg at 13.66

Same here I had some weights similar to these and I couldent fit the right weight (more than 8 KG) onto the end of the bars. So I waited for a good deal for the cast iron dumbbell set and found it a couple of months ago (from the link from the first page) and bought 2 sets which was worht the wait.

I use these, quite good. I prefer the metal ones though in the same page of the catalogue).
#24
their fine if you want from my experience when I was really young the vinyl was okay, then as I grew up they just couldn't do it for me, you are better off paying the extra for a set that'll last, get steel or if you want them to look real nice go for chrome.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/catalogId/1500001501/partNumber/3027224.htm

then just order more weight disks from york as you need them.

But only go for it if you really are gonna use it, otherwise go for cheapie vinyl ones as quite a few people I know have wasted their money, buying and then using for a short time untill the "novelty" wares off.
#25
Oh and if you ever start trying to go for real heavy weights then please spend the extra and buy some gloves or you will get very rough skin and blisters under the surface.
#26
Actually the gloves thing is a very good point... you can rip your hands to bits otherwise...

As someone who wants to build up their arms but is incredibly weedy, what is a good starter weight?

I would recommend any sort of dumbbell (for a starter) where you can increase and decrease the weights because you can fix how much you can pick up at any one time.

Before you do the weight lifting stretch you arms out for 20 sec and also when you finish do this for 40 sec this will prevent injury to the muscles you are using and helps your muscles feel better the next day.

The first 2-4 weeks you would feel exhausted but don’t give up your body just has to get use to this and when it does you will just feel like you did before you started.

Depending on what sort of exercise you are doing depends on the weight. For a beginner I would start off little and do 11-13 reps and 3 sets per exercise at a weight you prefer (and if increasing the weight you wouldn’t be able to do these reps and sets).

There are allot of books and websites that can talk you through all different exercises you can do with just the dumbbells as well and will explain what muscles you are building up. Me myself have 2 different exercises, one for the front half and the other for the back half of my body.

If you start a program where you do 5-8 different exercises on I would recommend to take a day off in-between to get your body back to its normal state. So work Monday, Wednesday, Friday and so on.

It does take time to build up and it will be better if you don’t drink alcohol or smoke and never go will any other drugs around. If you did it will take much longer to build up and wouldent be good for you either.

Hope this helps.

Damn right it does, thanks!

I take it alcohol directly inhibits muscle growth?
