why so coold?

I think because you can get sets of York dumbells for the similar prices, not just the weights themselves.

In fact I didn't realise these were 10kg weights, I apologize. I don't know why theyre cold :P
#4
the weights on the 20kg dumbells are not 20kg anyway its 20kg including the dumbell bar..

well I shall still be going down to get these tomorrow unless someone can show me where to get cheaper ones without just voting cold...

hehe - idk why cold.

i've bought this product in the past from argos and walked two miles home.

it looks really funny carrying what looks like a pizza box, but actually weighs 20kg. it's ok for the first part of the journey but then starts to get a bit awkward to carry. just makes you look like you are struggling to carry a pizza down the street XD

i don't remember the price i paid before, but i quick scan on the net and prices are all above £26. rated hot.

lol yeh I bought some a couple years ago and the box isn't that big so it looks like you a struggling to carry a tiny box :P although two woman had to carry it to the collection desk in argos and said be careful its heavy..so I carried it with one hand out the shop ;)

Tesco have 10kg weights for £10 each, save £6 and you get to use a trolley to carry them, lol

I think you are talking about vinyl weights which are bulky and not as good quality.

It seems people rate cold for the fun of it..
#10
I don't think people understand so vote cold. imo if people don't think they understand they shouldn't vote cold or hot.

Haven't voted either way but when I got my weights a little while back, I considered anything over £1 per kilo too expensive.

The big Tesco stores are usually pretty good for weight plates and if you can be patient and wait til Feb there are always places selling off excess fitness equipment cheap (loads of people make New Years resolutions to 'keep fit and lose weight' so come Feb (when they've given up) stores are shifting excess stock)

If anyone has a Decathlon near them these work out at slightly better value and come with dumbell bars and quick release collars.

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/10kg-set-72199753/

For £9.99 you get 6 cast iron discs (2 x 2kg + 4 x 1kg) as well as a 2kg bar and 2 x collars. Works out to £1.25 per kg compared to the OP's £1.30 per kg plus you get the flexability of being able to use smaller weights for different exercises.

If you're after weightplates only, Decathlon do big plates for £1 per Kg in the larger sizes...

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/28mm-cast-iron-disc-4192046/

i.e 5kg = £4.99... 10kg = £9.99... 20kg = £19.99

Sorry about the long post!!

any idea if decathlon weights would fit a york barbell?

disadvantage of small weights is the restriction that only so many will fit on a barbell or dumbell - fine if female, but for men we need heavier weights to lift.

i'd be interested in the decathlon if they fit my york bar, but i can't see anywhere with measurements :/

It isn't about what you find expensive it is about the best deal out there which this is. No one has shown a better deal but decide to vote cold anyway.

The dumbells only have 8 kg on them and like the previous poster said you wont have enough space to put 30-40 2kg plates.

the decathlon weights do seem to be cheaper although It would mean travelling quite a distance and spending money to get there to buy the weights so not an option for everyone.

My york bar is 25mm while the decathlon weights are 28mm so only a tiny difference.

But I've just shown you this isn't the cheapest price?! It's not a terrible price but at the same time it ain't a hot deal.

Stu - I've got a York barbell and use a mix of York, Tesco and Decathlon plates and they're all fine. It's only 3mm difference so doesn't really matter. As for sizes, it's good to have a range of diff size plates including small ones so you can increase weights gradually.

Thanks for this info to both of you. :)

I just got these from Argos today for under £25

I had to walk a mile back to work with them and I was struggling towards the end of the journey, had to stop a couple of times to check my mobile phone........LOL
