Word of caution, don't expect the 'case' to arrive in great condition - I ordered these when they were £10 more and it arrived dented and with a broken latch

I stated the Argos deal in my description, this deal suits people who don't want to lug 20kg of weights about or spend six quid on Argos delivery.

Edited By: toddy888 on Aug 18, 2010 21:30: MISTAKE

The Argos deal's good, however it doesn't appear to have the case & the spinlocks are now plastic.

This is a good deal. :{

Not a bad set either, i bought these about 5 years ago.

Surely the whole idea of these things is to lug them around? :p

These will be prefect for sculpting sooty and sweep, aka the guns. I might order 2 sets to test my massive pythons.

It sounds stupid but it's probably for storage, I know you can just hide them somewhere but some people prefer just packing them up neatly

I can't seem to find anything on the Amazon page about the spinlocks being metal. Can anyone help?
#23
Unless I am reading this wrong, its 18kg of weight, meaning 2 x 1kg bars.

Or another way, 10kg in each hand. That's not alot of weight, especially for the men of this parish.
You'd be better off down the gym, and you at least get eye candy in lycra in there :)
#24
Good deal indeed. Ordered.

Anyone know a good deal for barbells?
#25
Great deal. Thanks for posting.

The spinlocks are metal. Have had a set of these for 5+ years.

I bought a set of 4 spring clips off of ebay for a few quid, which makes changing weights a bit less of a faff.
#29
Good deal.

Have these already from Argos about 10 years ago, i do not recommend collecting in store (unless your car is close by). Still remember the nightmare of using the bus to get them home (i was young and dumb). My right arm was completely numb by the time i got home. Should have seen the warning signs when the lady at Argo till struggled to bring the box over to the counter and proceeded to warn me about the weight :p Bought addition 4x5kg weights since then so more space to put the extra 2.5's on both; home delivery of course.

Read the most recent reviews (some from only a few days ago) on the Amazon site they say metal

The ones from Argos that show metal ones on the picture are now plastic. How well do the clips work on the screw thread on the bar?

i have these plastic spin locks. My guns look sweet after a couple of session a week, HONEST!!

its 17 kg, of which you can fit a max of 8.5kg onto 1 dumbell weighing 1.5kg making it 10kg each.

10 kg is probably okay for a weak woman, but men would need a proper set like ironmasters or bowlflex.

i have over £2K worth of equipment in my garage, this set is useless for anyone wanting big arms, my olympic dumbells without any weight cost £120. thats just for the 2 small bars, this is nothing more than a toy.

Is this a competition? Beacuse if it is, I have over £4K of equipmet in my garage, which includes 14 sets of york dumbbells. To label these as 'nothing more than a toy' is, quite frankly, rediculous. I've used olympic dumbbells, and they offer nothing that these don't. Ultimately, it's just a weight. Nothing more. It's what you do with it that counts.

While i'm not sure of the limits of either the york or the olympic sets, I have a set of 100kg york dumbbells which see a fair bit of use, and handle it just fine. I would imagine that, for the majority of people looking at these, even a 100kg limit would be enough.

I've also used the plastic spinnlocks, and while I prefer the metal ones I have to admit that the plastic ones did the job of holding the weight on the bar just the same.

So, hot from me. A good deal just for the bars and a little weight to get started.

Oh, and at the risk of sounding like the one of the meatheads that I despise so much, I should also mention that I have big arms, legs, back, shoulders, chest and ego.

I wish I could lift 100kg per dumbell - 220lbs per hand LOL, nearly 10 stone per hand :)
