Technically toning is building muscle and they won't do that. At this weight, they are a gimmick.

You only need one to start with anyway so why not buy one thats the proper weight for you instead of having these sitting around doing nowt?

Clearly these aren't aimed a the person who wants large muscles but I regards the other comments on here I don't see how they are so useless because as one person mentions above these are aimed at people wanting to tone up and I think they're good size/weight for people wanting to do that

They won't help you "tone up". Even a woman should start using a 12KG bell for fat burning purposes. It's meant to be an all-body workout and 4KG is just not enough to challenge the large muscle groups in your legs, hips and back. Wafting these tiddlers about is a waste of time.

What on earth are you on about?! No disrespect to any female reading this but how many could hold out to the side or to the front of them and hold for a second or two seconds the equivalent weight of 12 bags of sugar given that each bag of sugar is usually 1Kg which is what you are proposing???!

Don't let these comments put you off, not everyone has the ability to start/work with heavier weights, an inexperienced person throwing any weight bell around has the potential to do damage. There is nothing at all wrong with using small weights either ongoing or to start a session, cardio will be achieved.

Agreed. The posts on here these days are really starting to get annoying. Too many people with mis-information and too many negative comments on stuff in my opinion

You aren't meant to hold them out statically (which would be utterly useless for fat burning), but rather swing them dynamically between your legs with two hands and then forwards and upwards with a thrusting motion driven by the hips. That is the core kettle bell exercise: the kettlebell swing. If you want to just hold something out, then use a dumbbell (or bag of shopping) as it's cheaper.

I was wrong about 12KG though, the general advice for a starting size for women is 8KG.

PS If you want to stay fat, stick to the pink weights and the cross trainer.

4kg is too light for all but the slightest of women

Tie them all together and start doing upright rows.oO

Maybe you have to consider the level of fitness these are aimed at, or maybe you should even consider that they're going to be used to "challenge the large muscle groups" but more to condition the small muscle groups that hold your joints together and strengthening your core... Similar to exercises done using therabands. Using these whilst doing yoga or pilates would be good for toning up. Not everyone is interested in going to the gym and smashing heavy weights in a bid to look like Arnie!
