This looks like a good price.

I currently have the Z3 compact and very happy with it. I looked at the Z5c before I bought it, it seems like the Z5c is mainly just a Z3c with a fingerprint sensor (which is a bit hit and miss).

At this price it seems a good buy.

Can someone tell meow o cancel he sim tariff? And how easy to unlock?

You need to call O2 for both, they will cancel the airtime once you have the phone and unlock it. Have a look at some of the other O2 refresh deals on here, there are some detailed step by step guides to cancelling and unlocking.
Also be aware of the risks with this, O2 will most likely try and take the full contract cost out of your bank after you cancel which you'll need to claw back off them. If you cancel the DD to avoid this then you will run the danger of getting your credit score damaged.

You can request O2 to unlock it for free either online via a form or possibly phone them.
Cancel either by phoning or maybe online chat.
I would request the unlock code first then cancel contract after you have received it.
I think you have to have had the phone for 24 hours before requesting unlock possibly to make sure it is in their system.

Are these locked to O2?

Yes, they will be, if you call them request the unlock code.

on pay as u go , your phone can only be unlocked by them after 12 months. If you are not on o2 this can be a pain. Great deal though, heat added
#11
Thanks, in the meantime I webchatted with them and they said the handsets will be locked for a minimum of 12 months
#12
I'd love this on payg but can only use EE ☹️

The Z3c won't get Nougat whereas Z5c will ... around December according to Sony.

My wife has an O2 Pay Monthly tariff ie not payg. If I buy the phone in my name on Payg for £179.99 does anyone know if she can get it unlocked immediately? Essentially then can someone on an o2 monthly contract get any O2 phone unlocked? Many thanks for any help.

It's also a fair bit quicker - but the key point you missed off: the USB port is sealed but exposed, so no more faffing with the flaps and wearing out the rubber gasket. This is a huge bonus for retaining water-resistance.

..that's true if you only stick to stock ROMs, but if you root then it'll be a very different story.

I thought Sony's DRM does bad things to custom ROMs.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether to go for this or the Huawei P9 please?

is it free to unlock the pay as you go version?
#27
Pay As You Go customers
If you're on Pay As You Go, your O2 phone can be unlocked 12 months after you bought it. It’ll cost you £15, which we'll deduct from your airtime balance. This policy might vary depending on which phone you’ve bought.
#28
Voted hot and very tempted but not enough to go through the cancellation / unlock process.

No it's not free and you can't request an unlock from O2 until you've owned the payg handset for 12 months. But...unlock codes seem pretty easy to get on eBay for £6-ish.

O2 contract phones are free to unlock as soon as you get them.

You lose low light camera code, although from the before and after shots I've seen it doesn't make much difference. I've been using a custom ROM on mine for the last year and am very happy with the results, especially compared to stock, and you're able to backup your DRM keys anyway in case you ever wanted to revert.

I've got a z3c sat in a draw, been used for about 10 minutes. Think I should perhaps sell it. Not sure if this is worth the update though?
#35
It's taken me a while to realise, but none of these are n new phones.
Good deal for those looking for second hand phones with limited warranty.

The O2 version of the phone has a permanently locked bootloader - you're stuck with Sony firmware only
