For those who missed similar battery powered coin sorter offer at Comet.

The pic shows 'Science Museum' branding.

Takes 3 C batteries apparently.

Don't forget the tecno5 code to get 5% off.

Was £4.94+P&P last night, now £4.99 + delivery - eg £3.95/order.

I thought standard citylink delivery was next day?

I got one of these from Comet and it's rubbish. It sorts the coins but mixed a few 5p coins in with the 1p coins. It doesn't always count the right number of coins in a stack so you still have to check how many are there.

Once I had finished there were a load of coins rattling around inside the casing and I had to shake it for about 5 mins to get them all out.

Nice idea - disappointing result

Well I can't believe the speed they processed my order. I placed my order around 8.30pm last night - yes just 13.5hrs ago - and got an email at 10.30pm saying despatched and then a knock on my door this morning at 8.45am with the box. So yes the £3.95 standard delivery DID turn out to be next day delivery, indeed almost "same day" delivery - utterly amazing service.

Now to test the gizmo and keep my fingers crossed I got a working one.

Thanks - that's great! I missed out on the Comet one so have just ordered one. Our parking meter coin bank is half full and I wasn't relishing having to empty and sort it all - hopefully this will make the job a bit easier!

mk-donald - is the one you received the same as the one in the pic or is it different?

mk-donald, we include delivery costs in all our posts here - I'll add it into the OP

Thanks :)

Yes the one delivered = the one advertised - ie the Science Museum one.

I actually ordered two - one working fine and now stacked with coins, the other completely dead - Tecno swapping it out for me. So takes a little icing off the amazingly prompt service.

Can use a 4.5V DC (centre positive) power supply. Battery compartment (3xC) otherwise underneath - which would be rather inconvenient when they fail as likely to have coins tipping all over the place if you don't 'unload' it (which requires battery power to tip the tubes). Still at £4.94 +P&P it's FUN as I remember trying to make coin sorter/stackers as a kid with lego/meccano/etc. Just noticed gone up 5p to 4.99 now!

chances are they have noticed it's popularity and have decided to cash in ... without realising the price was the reasons for the popularioty and that they won't sell any at this new price

Ordered mine yesterday with standard delivery and it arrived today - it IS the Science Museum one (in Science Museum Box) - haven't got batteries for it yet but will try it out later. Thanks to OP!

I got one of these Science Museum Coin Sorters today and first of all, they're huge, like twice the size they look in pictures, but that's not so bad...

What is bad though is that you don't get any adapter or batteries so it's dead out of the box, and you can't manually drop coins into the tubes either as the tubes are jammed shut unless there's power, which also means if one day the batteries fail/power fails, then you have no access to your money!!

Ridiculous! these are crap!

They take 3 of those large C batteries, which is gonna be an expensive ongoing cost, and they also state in the manual not to use rechargeables, and you have to dig out a screwdriver just to open/close the battery compartment.

Also, in reviews people have been saying they are prone to getting coins stuck inside which you can't get out short of using at as a maraca for hours

Anyone know where you can get an adapter for these? because i will not be forking out for batteries, i can't believe they deprive you of an adapter, i've no idea where to get one, how much they cost and whether it'll even work!

I wish someone else would have posted and told everyone how naff they are since there's been a huge hype for these on here for ages

My advice, well worth avoiding... no wonder comet had 'em at five quid
