Was just about to post this myself! As it says, the cover says rental copy but mine was as new! Shop has some other good deals, bit like Fopp so hit and miss. Heat added.

This film was awesome in the cinema. Weird that it says rental copy yet it's new; rental copies are usually expensive as they have to pay extra for 'em so they can rent 'em out.

And as the fella quoted before 'its illegal to sell rental copies'. if you look on the back of the cover or even the disc it should say 'not for resale. for rental only'

D'oh!!

visited store out of stock at lunchtime at 1.30pm

I cant see how its illegal to sell rental copies.

Once they have paid for it then they can do whatever they like with it.. It might annoy your distributor.. but if these are new then they are likely overstocks direct from a distributor anyway.

If it was illegal blockbuster wouldnt be selling ex-rentals.

New store was pretty rubbish. Loads of old films for £3

Don't be silly - it's not illegal to sell rental copies. Blockbuster Video and other rental places sell off rental copies of movies all the time after they've been out for a while and they don't need so many copies of them because demand has dropped. I have a couple of 'Rental Copies' in my DVD colllection. Rental copies differ to retail copies in that they are usually missing the special features and/or have extra trailers that you're forced to watch before getting to the main menu. Movies are also sometimes available to rent before retail - so there's a legal obligation to mark these different copies as 'Rental Copies' so that they're not sold before retail release date and so consumers are aware of the difference. They will still have a barcode on them, allowing them to be scanned and sold and they should not have 'Not for resale' on them because the rental license is in addition to, not instead of, normal selling conditions. Only DVDs given away free or as part of boxsets should have no barcodes and/or 'Not for resale' written on them.

That said, the fact that it's a rental copy does mean that it's pre-owned, so it was worth pointing that out - it doesn't look as though the shop was advertising that fact. It's a great price for the movie but, given that it's under £10 new, £6 sounds about fair, not amazing.

they've not long opened a store in Preston too, managed to pick up Close Encounters Blu ray special edition for about £6

The City shop is Shut!!! The Big store in Preston was pretty overpriced.
