Thanks for posting :). Been wondering when a 8800GT 512Mb card would drop to under £100 delivered (Edit: actually it has, 3-4 weeks ago with a PoV). The Amp edition posted a week ago for ~£5 more was better though.

Personally i would go for an 8800GT with a better cooler. Especially if you want to overclock it at all. Even at stock speeds,
some 8800GT's suffer from heat issues. Fantastic cards tho.

This one is £97.95 & has a 'radial heatpipe' cooler.

Or this one for £107, which comes with a zalman cooler

Just a tip, that one looks to be 256Mb rather than 512Mb.

Novatech were doing the AMP! edition of this card for £105! Factory overclocked - so the cooler cant be THAT bad......?

Doh! You are right, that is the 256mb version There is a 512 Gigabyte one for around the £110 mark, I will see if I can find it ...

Aparently the Zotac coolers are better than a lot of the stock coolers tho.

A lot of people get hung up on overclocking and then say if you want to overclock you need a bigger fan than the stock one. Whilst this is true, the 8800GT performs very well at is default speeds, no real necessity to overclock for the 'average' user. This card is a very good price for just under £100 and so i vote hot

I had serious heat problems with my 8800GT, even without overclocking it. I bought a POV 8800Gt . It was one of the single slot models. It idled at 65 degrees, and went into the high 90's under load, without overclocking. Worked for most games, but when I tried Crysis, it totally overheated and my system would just die. I have a p180 case , which has good cooling. I put a better GPU cooler on the card and the temps droped to about 45 idle/65 load. Overclocking it to Amp! levels only increased the temp by about 3 degrees. (my card does now take up 4 slots tho.....)

Saying that, the 8800GT in my mediacentre PC is single slot too, and it doesn't get nearly as hot. This 8800GT may well be fine , but if I was buying another one, I would go for one witch wasn't single slot.

can't wait for 55nm or lower GPUs - sound like the damn things get mo hot and gulp power like there's no yesterday!!

That sounds like maybe they forgot to use any thermal compound on the heatsink! Using ATITool, it reports a minimum temperature of 46C on my card, it isn't actually that temperature though, that is the minimum the reporting system can handle.

I believe POV used to have an upgrade policy whereby you could trade in your card once to a newer model, for a relatively modest sum. Looks like they might have stopped this now though :(

Whats the difference between Amp edition and normal edition?

The former has a factory 'overclock' (an example of tweaks one would need to do if overclocked manually). This review says "it's more than just an overclocked card".

The Amp! eddittion is factory overclocked & has a better cooler. As far as I know, all 8800GT's use Micron Ram which is actually rated at 2ghz anyway.
#17
The amp! version is 700 MHZ core clock, 1940MHZ mem and 1700 and summit shader clock. thats off the top of my head but it was faster and much cheaper than a newer 512 GTS - although i know they perform better and will overclock more.

djfluff - thanks for pointing out the better cooling fan - started to panic a little when i saw your post about the cooler!

Think the o/c shader is the best thing about the amp! edition other than the price cos apparently its not an easy thing to overclock! anyway im happt with it so far :) has a cool orange glow too......... ;)

Last time I ordered something from ebuyer it took them 3 weeks to tell me the item wasnt actually in stock so I try to stay clear of them now.

It's a hot deal as I paid about £50 more than this a few weeks ago but its available for a similar price from play and other sites if you looks on google.
