Just saw this on a mobile phone site & it looks good, since it's the CHEAPEST NON-IMPORT ANDROID SMARTPHONE I'VE EVER SEEN WITH 1GB RAM, in fact it's the same price as the Huawei Y300, which is my favourite budget phone to date, but this has twice the RAM of the Y300 & a slightly faster processor.

Here are the main other selling points:

∙ 4.0" WVGA TFT display (233 pixels per inch)
∙ Mediatek MT6572 chipset: dual-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7, Mali-400 GPU, 1GB RAM
∙ 5MP camera
∙ 4GB expandable storage
∙ Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
∙ Slim for a phone in its class, at 125.50 mm x 63.90 mm x 8.90 mm

There are different sources regarding the availability, but the consensus is that it is currently available at Argos (can't see it on their website yet) & will soon be available from Sainsbury's.

Argos offer a replacement within 30 days it it's faulty & Sainsbury's do the same within 28 days. Even though the phone is gonna be available from Virgin Media at some stage, possibly with 20% off for broadband/TV customers, bear in mind their return period for the same is only 14 days. I'm currently having a bit of a battle with them regarding my ZTE Blade V which has had intermittent faults since its purchase.

The Blade V has now gone up to £99.99 on the Virgin Media website (not sure why, would have thought they'd reduce it to compete with the Moto G) which makes the Blade Q Mini even more appealing.

It will, however, be locked to Virgin.

This is the first deal I've ever posted, so hopefully I have lived up to HUKD's standards by writing the words myself & not just listing specs or posting a link from a website!

£10 top up required – so total price is £69.99

Hat tip to Pontiac: ARGOS LINK for BLADE Q MINI

A larger photo is below:

According to CNET UK, there will be a white version (ZTE Blade Q Mini will be available in white) but I'm not sure when. However, here is the white version of a similar phone, so you can all see how it looks:

Looks a decent phone at that price, but I am not really sure it's a hot deal yet as I can't actually buy it...

You should be able to get it instore, just not online at the moment. I will phone them tomorrow & update the thread as necessary – I can always change the start date that I currently have set as today.

EDIT: This may be why it is not yet displayed on the Argos site: Argos Website Updating

Way better value than a moto g.. (Stir it up :p)

good deal or the price.
the build quality of this phone can be described as OK, dont expect it to last forever.
#6
Good deal, no doubt, but the Moto G is a proper sized smartphone with not just a great screen, but has everything else including KitKat OS. The camera is pretty basic, but rest assured, it's the best budget smartphone by a country mile.

Have you managed to see one yet? Not asking to have a go, just wondered what you thought. If I see one this weekend, I will post pics.

Thanks for your input. Bear in mind that not everyone can afford a Moto G, impressive though its screen is, and some people might want a spare, cheaper handset such as this one.

Lots of good and handy info in the description box, thanks! Just what a HUKD post should be :)

I used a ZTE Blade V from Virgin before, the phone looks very attractive on the spec, but when I actually use the phone, it feels very lag and makes me suspect they are not meeting the spec they claimed. Also I think the build quality is worse than Huawei's.

Its way better than Huawei Y300
Here is the reasons why:
Huawei Y300 vs ZTE Blade Q Mini
1GHz Dual Core Cortex A5 vs 1.3GHz Dual Core Cortex A7
512 MB RAM vs 1 GB RAM
Android OS, v4.1 (Jelly Bean) vs Android OS, v4.2 (Jelly Bean)

also bear in mind the Huawei has gone up in price @ CPW £59.95 + TopUp

Thanks for all the trouble you've taken. It's always nice to see someone write up a post rather than do a copy and paste job.

It's an interesting deal. I bought the Y300 but got sick of the small amount of RAM which made it really difficult to run more than one app at a time.

The processor looks much better on this phone.

But I have to say that the Motorola Moto G, which I went for to replace the Y300, is a game changer for me.

The £12.50/month Tesco contract (500 minutes and 500 MB of data) works out over 2 years as only £60 more than the Three SIM deal I've been on.

It's slightly dodgy maths but for £60 the Moto G is a hell of a phone. Really good screen, lovely sound and a very well-reviewed processor. The only downside is that I get reminded of the Tesco brand in the top left corner the whole time!

Typo aramaj, you've put 1MB RAM instead of 1GB. :)

#17

Hi,

I'm in the market to get a new phone and ideally I only want to spend sort £50-60ish so this is good for me as I can't really warrant spending another £50-60 to get something apparently better...

I was wondering;

1. Is £59.99 full RRP? Or is that an offer price?

2. I can't see anywhere but is it £59.99 + £10 top up?

Thanks,

KM

IS this SIM FREEE !???

Go for the moto g.

This is £60. There might be a £10 top up. Plus let's say another £10. Unlock. So that's £80. Total. ASSUMING !!

I personally would go for the moto g

Moto g
Better brand
Better processor quad core
Better screen
Latest version
ASSUMING better build quality.

This phone
EXPANDABLE memory
Potentially a lot cheaper. Still have to wait and decide ....

If this is £60 sim free its hotter then the moto g. Period we have to wait and see

Eliton. Can't you buy them direct in Germany ? There 60 in cpw now

nope - they are €100 plus in Germany - when they were £39.99 even with the 310 top-up that equates to €60

Am I right in thinking you can use T-Mobile / Orange / EE sims with locked Virgin phones?

Well the 5S is CLEARLY the better deal.
Maybe I should post 'Unlocked 16GB iPhone 5S from the Apple store - £549' on HUKD and call the FIRE BRIGADE!

Shame it's locked to Virgin, I don't want to go down the locked phone route again. Was such a faff phoning up 3 to get the code to transfer my number, then phoning Orange.

If I didn't want to keep my existing number it would be a decent option, but locked means no for me.

most likely NO !

if it were looked to T-Mobile or maybe even EE then it would work with Virgin - but not the other way around

unlock codes for ZTE handsets are generally very cheap on eBay - just need a seller to start to do them!

You sure... I am using a t- mobile sim in my locked virgin phone. All sims using the ee network work in it.

inski: The Blade Q Mini is slimmer than theh Blade V, so hopefully it will be better & tighter, if that makes sense. Huawei have very well built phones, the Vision is solid aluminium & soft touch rubber. The G300 is also fantastic, although the Y300 isn't quite as good, I still find it to be highly satisfactory.

bachgammon: Thank you! I was scared I'd get kicked off the site if I didn't do a proper job! I already have a Tesco SIM free contract, £10 a month for unlimited messagaing, internet & 500 minutes, so I'd have to buy a Moto G on PAYG.

dcx_badass: Bandwise, I believe it's the same as the Blade V & the good budget Huawei handsets.

Yes i've just noticed that. annoying as i'm not on pay as you go with virgin. i'll shift it to a mate for a fiver then hopefully. also noticed the product is excluded from the 30 day money back guarantee. so unless it's faulty it can't be returned.

Just had a play with it and initial impressions are very good. I purchased a Moto G but returned it due to a dead pixel, and minor light bleed at top of screen. Happy to say that this has no dead pixels, and initial impressions report very very minor light bleed at the edges which I can live with seeing as I've never seen any screen without some sort of bleed if you look close enough. The screen is as clear as the Moto Gs but the resolution is not as high which is noticeable, you don't get so much on screen. I installed a few apps and apart from a couple of stutters the thing seems just as smooth and as fast. Call quality is good, sounds fine. The touchscreen seems more responsive than the Motos.

One other thing, this is definitely much lighter and smaller than the moto g whilst keeping almost the same screen size. This is definitely a keeper. Will report back more findings later.

Pontiac, is the UI exactly the same as that of the Blade V? And how is the build quality?

I've never had a Blade V, I'm comparing it to the Moto G. UI is very similar on this and the Moto G. Build quality seems fine, the back cover slipped off easily unlike the Moto G's which is tight as hell.
