Top ups are in £5 minimum increments so ask the phone advisor nicely if they can credit you the 32p needed to unlock. they did for me but if you demand it they could insist you buy another £5 to cover it

I just ordered the unlock for mine. The woman topped my phone up by £5.32 from my credit card and took the charge from that with my initial £10 credit. So it really does seem to depend who you talk to as to what approach they will take for unlocking.

Quick question for yourself or anyone else who has got away with this - had you already applied the £10 credit to your account? Or did you still have the vouchers?

I think they applied the £10 to the sim in the shop. I hadn't set up any kind of account before calling to get the unlock code and had to do so at the same time.

I emailed Virgin about the price discrepancy and, lo-and-behold, today the price has been changed to £89.99 inclusive of £10 top-up.

For me it shows the other way lol! The way I thought it was meant to be - they've now changed the front page to £99.99

Its £89.99 on the upgrade page:
    http://store.virginmedia.com/virgin-media-mobile/upgrade-phones.html
    http://store.virginmedia.com/content/eSales/en_gb/home/virgin-media-mobile/pay-as-you-go-phones/zte-blade-v/zte-blade-v-specifications.html

You need to have a payg account already to get this price. Maybe just register an old virgin sim?

Ah so they'd probably mixed up the upgrade and non upgrade pricing then and were showing a mixture of both to both? And have now sorted each out.

Is anyone using this phone happy with video playback. It doesn't play iplayer without terrible stuttering. Any 720p video or above either doesnt play or has horrendous lip sync issues. It virtually doesn't stream anything from my NAS at all. Wifi connection is fine and NAS is super fast. Is it a codec issue or a dodgy phone?

Given the phone is only capable of 480p, might it be an idea to select a lower resolution version of the video?

I rooted as per the instructions over at XDA. All was fine but now the internet speaker but not the earpiece, is silent.

I recall a comment from someone about sound loss following a root but haven't managed to find the comment after a long trawl.

    *UPDATE*

It came back to life as if the device is running some kind of software healing background code.

if i reduce bandwidth on iplayer the lip sync is shocking. the reason i got a quad core phone was that it would play high res files so i am not constantly guessing if it will play. this is going back to the shop.

Tried using the BBC Media Player (required for some bizarre reason by iPlayer): It's sucks. Really, it's a crappy application and a disgrace to the BBC. Netflix is just fine at high res as are most other things.

Yes, I found this too. Some iPlayer items play fine and others completely unwatchably jittery at either quality setting despite my fast connection.

Has anyone managed to install Real Racing 3 on their Blade V?

I tried but got insufficient memory message regarding the 1.7gb download.

Yes i did loads more playing and the video quality settings just dont work. Yet random programs do play. When they do they appear to be often the highest quality so must be a codec issue.
If i use 3g which is very slow for me iplayer works fine albeit clearly at low quality. I wonder if zte will improve codec support. Otherwise this seems a great phone. For some reason, most likely more incompetence, Virgin unlocked it for free so now I am keen to keep it.

I had the same issue with Asphalt 8. The internal SD card is pathetically small for gamers. You'll need to root the phone and swap the SD cards like so: http://www.modaco.com/topic/365360-how-to-swapping-the-internal-and-external-sd-cards/
Before I even bought the phone I downloaded the rom and made sure this was possible because I knew it would be an issue for me.

If that looks complicated, as I mention in the post, I do intend to make a clockword patch to do the job this weekend. Though it is easier to do than the actual rooting IMO!

phoned 789 kept doing other option in menu until spoke to overseas centre. registered my details against my virgin media account and applied the top up. When I asked for the unlock they put me through and they processed the request and never asked for payment. Gave me the code over the phone a day later. Given the hassle I have had trying to get the phone seems like justice.

Just used the phone in the car for navigation and bluetooth calls and it is great, so fast. Speech recognition is amazing compared to my original blade. Only thing I find is Hsdpa speed is really low on tmobile. What connection speeds are possible with this?

7.2Mbps apparently. Not tried it myself - I mostly use wifi.
