Based on...... That old 'get out'

A lot of historical inaccuracies........... but............. a great classic film.

Will try to visit Rourke's Drift next February. On the last trip my host offered to rent the film, his wife is a Zulu.

"Based on" ????
It's bloody FACT FFS !!!
They were 95% accurate in this film.
Even to the point of Jack Hawkins character attempts to sabotage the whole thing.
The Zulus had a LOT of rifles, and their classic bravery was the equal of the Welsh lads and the Royal Engineers.
But it was 10 against 1.
These Zulus had ripped to shreds a far FAR larger British army who had new rifles at Islandlwana, but atrociously incompetent officers, while the Zulu leaders were crafty and VERY competent.

Inaccuracies ?
Which were, pray tell ?

Several Zulu warriors are wearing wrist watches.
The soldiers wear parade dress uniforms, including white helmets displaying the regimental crest. On active service they would have worn a more basic uniform with plain cork helmets, as depicted correctly in Zulu Dawn.
The revolvers used by the officers are of WWI issue.
and probably most importantly,,,,,,,,, The 24th is identified as the "South Wales Borderers". In 1879 the regiment was the 2nd Warwickshire. It did not become a Welsh regiment until 1881.
Just a few to chew over.:whistling:
