trouble is you up the spam for the crap in misc and it leaves the genuine spam that needs removing on the boards

Nah. People just expire their own threads so it cant be spammed. Happens all the time.

not by me it doesnt
#3
Perhaps just remove the Spam and Expired buttons altogether and just have a report button, that way if someone thinks a post is rubbish/repost/dodgy post/thread that needs moving/spammed etc a moderator is the one with the final say.

and you have proof of this?

actually sassie, I didn't understand a word of that

i mean if you up it so it needs 5 members to spam it, then when the real stuff that does need spamming it stays on longer ecause it now needs 5 members to spam it and not 2, im referring to other parts of the site, not the crap in misc

Did that sound like an accusation?

Well I suppose it did - but wasn't in your direction.

no it didnt sound like an accusation, sorry, was just saying i dont do that - lol

oh I see your point, yes, I guess it's just pointless then, misc=crap, through and through

its like a gang warfare half the time in misc

Hi starsparkle2311

If any thread; be it in misc/deals/feedback or anywhere has been wrongly spammed it should be reported to Admin.

If Admin finds a pattern eg. one or two names regularly appear as spammers then a warnig (at least) can be issued. If they chose to ignore any warning about wrongly spamming (etc) then further action can be taken.

From the HUKD rules "Abuse of the voting system, reputation, expiry and spam buttons will lead to a ban from the forums."

The expiring/spamming system is set up to assist other users/the mods and abuse of this system is not at all welcomed.

You can't report a spammed thread.

I always keep mine open in another tab, and report it when it inevitably gets spammed.

If you use the report button and say that a recent post of yours entitled "whatever" has been wrongly spammed then Admin can look into it. Although a link is useful (as in what you do Saint) it can still be found by Admin without it
banned#15
I spam threads, whether its a sad reflection on my petty life, I don't know, but I do at least try to stick to the spam rules.

and if its a dupe or spam... I spam it.

Personally I think the limit is set correctly. Can you give an example of a wrongly spammed thread?

starsparkle2311
I come on here for a laugh, I see no difference in me posting threads (obviously silly) on a Friday night to people posting crap about what they have ate on a Wednesday!!!

I don't think anyone has an issue with those kind of threads but ones that are deliberate trolls which are posted to inflame or upset people, you are allowed to spam and they should be spammed. For instance, if I posted a thread which said all women are stupid and I have no respect for them (true example btw) then its right that it be spammed as it hasn't been posted for fun, entertainment or meaningful discussion but just to provoke a negative response.....
#17
As I have mentioned before, we should need to add the reason for spamming a thread in the form of a pop up box.
We all know who is renown for constant spamming so a reason would suffice.
#18
guv
100% agree. That would also remove the need to post "Spammed" in the thread, which frankly is done to either incite other clique members to do the same, or just try to look important - (ie - "hey - look what I just did")

It is a form of trolling, I feel we need to 'do away with' the spam button and implement a new one on the left hand side next to the report button, easy.
#19
Why have the spam function at all in misc. why not just give misc threads a shelf life instead.

There is no correctly or incorrectly spammed thread, just users who feel the need to click that spam link because the thread will disappear from the users view.

And as folks have stated that one persons thread is interesting to them but maybe crap to many more.

Its Misc, its a section full of crap from all users on topics, questions etc from A-to-Z....who cares about the interest of a specific thread, give it a time limit then after that time limit has lapsed, it should automatically be removed.

what about 'self promoting'?
we constantly see threads such as ''I am a millionnaire and am the MVP'', surely these are created to incite arguing.
Yet if you dare spam these, you receive an infraction.
What is the difference????

I agree, the reason why you may spam a thread is different from the next person.
Instead of randomly handing out infractions to people using the spam button, there should be a question asking for a reason.

You have to laugh, I guess writing in a thread that you have spammed it is only trolling if someone else does it:

Sensible adults ignore threads like that,a thread alone doesn't incite arguing, its the people posting on it that do,afterall, one can't argue with oneself.

oh yeh, check out my thread asking about getting a cat neutered, great reponses from the sensible adults out there:)

lol I didnt see that one Sparkle....is that the one that got spammed? :?
#27
SS, if you want to increase your chances of the moderators/Admin taking your thread seriously, keep the "Misc" convo's in "Misc".
#28
I don't understand why you need to ask for a limit on the amount of folks needed to spam.

The mods have all the information needed.
Earlier on andywedge says Admin can look, see if it's the same folks. Lol, doubt Admin has the time, inclination or can be bothered to do this. The comment to about if the same folks keep doing it, action will be taken with warnings etc. Wow, there's a reason not to do it then, you might get an infraction.

If it is the same folks over and over again and chances it is then the mods need to do summat, name and shame maybes but just saying, Admin will do summat, sorry that's lame as excuses go. There's always gonna be folks who do it for a laugh, to spite, wind folks up

Warnings, infractions mean nowt take folks powers away, name and shame and suspend, dare i say ban repeat offenders cos mods know who they are for sure, us minions can only speculate and tbh i've not a clue but the Sherlock Holmes' amongst us will do..........now enough with the report spammed threads, Admin will look into it. Do summat eh?

Edit: perhaps The Developer could add some code. "This thread was spammed (or expired) by [username] and [username(s)] on the [date]..........

nice post, good points, I agree

END OF TOPIC:thumbsup:

OOoo oooo can i expire it then? Pleeeeeeeeeeease can i expire it? :-D

Not expecting you to agree Guv, not at all mate but if the OP feels so wronged as to post a thread about it, and without being blunt the responses from on-high aren't exactly useful then perhaps more needs to be done, asked for.
Mind, i feel like i have a full bladder and the wind has just changed direction. Feedback is a joke, i cannot remember the last time anything came from it. Folks have asked so many times, many with real needs such as this and it has fallen on deaf ears.
Site is run how it is run and as long as the cash keeps rolling in, who cares. I bet if spamming a thread meant that this site didn't get any affiliate cash paid to it, changes would happen real quick. That's how i see it of late.......
