We don't actively push specific merchants in return for commission and nor do we act under merchant instruction. The moderators treat newsletters and emails much in the same way as members treat newsletters they receive to their own inboxes; most of them are deleted as junk but some of them have deals on there that are worth checking out.
We're talking about ways to get the balance right currently, however. We clearly don't want to be accused of spamming for certain merchants as this is not the case, if that means mods stop posting deals altogether then that may be the way we go. As mentioned, we're discussing it presently so we'll let you know.
What are your thoughts on that? I don't see any difference between that and what Scan were doing, so are you allowed to give incentives for spamming the forum now?

As JB has said, there is currently a general review of how things currently are. By that I mean what has been flagged by some of you already in these two Feedback threads.

Ah, ok. No - they are not expected/required to post a specific quantity of "Deals" over any space of time.
It does little for the sites claims of impartiality, particularly when they fail to disclose which are commision-paying and which aren't. What percentage of mod posted deals are affiliate schemes?

I personally wouldn't have access to that kind of data but I think we really ought to wait for this review to be completed before start getting into any details of the current issues.
As has been said by JB, it is something that is being looked at presently so hopefully we shouldn't be too far off of a decision/conclusion.

So you taking any action against the mods who were posting deals for a company that were breaking the rules 4 months ago, obviously the mods couldn't be arsed to check the company out before posting?

Do you actually think that warrants "action" against all the mods that ever posted for a now banned merchant? What action do you think they now deserve?
OT: Do I need to provide justification or is it just down to the numbers?
Justification is always good. When a member is awarded a VIP badge it is always good to give a brief explanation (even if it is obvious) to all recipients of the newsletter on why they deserved their badge. communitynews@hotukdeals.com or just drop me a PM. Whichever you prefer.
I am thinking about that. I think it is probably the right way to go. There is a conflict of interest even if we do emphasise to moderators that if they are posting or evaluating a deal it is in consideration of the community and not the merchant.
Right now we use the mods to screen merchant deals so there is a legit way for merchants to notify hukd of good offers (otherwise they try to self promo). An alternative I am thinking of is not allow mods to screen but let merchants post deals on their merchant page and then senior members could 'promote' deals from there into the main deal flow. Thoughts?
PS. Don't the merchants alert the current site staff to deals in advance anyway?
