I'm with you NJ... one of the most pointless idea's i've seen on here in a long time. Utterly devoid of any use whatsoever.

It would be nice to rate "deals" or "tips" in misc - this could be done by splitting misc into 2 sections, "tips" and "kids corner" or similar. You could then keep the heat rating for the tips bit. Splitting misc has been suggested many times before - I'd be in favour as useful stuff gets lost between all the rep begging threads and pointless word games

:santa:

as said above the misc section may to some be a massive part of this site, but no doubt admin is more inclined to make the deals part of the site the part that runs smoothly, as long as the drunks and desperate housewives can say hello to each other in misc and it looks quite tidy then thats probably as far as it will go.

Yeah but you can't see how many people actually voted. The current system allows some people to have more heat than others, seems a stupid system, everyone should have the same amount, otherwise it juts depends who looks at it when.

No its a very clever system which means important people like me have a high vote power, and utter idiots don't. Makes sense to me?

Important people like you  I mean obviouslly people who have just joined shouldn't have much voting power, but people like me for instance not as "imporatnt" as you, but if a lot of the "important" people aren't online a deal isn't going to get as much heat as another when they are, even though it may be as good. And its only how much heat you earn in your deals not your post count, how well known you are etc etc...

Rather than a like button, keep hot vs cold, but add a brought one i.e. user brought the deal after looking on hot deals. Then we can see how popular something is (someone may vote something hot but already have the item or a similar one so would not buy it)

But all this would show is who had one before, and who didn't

But it would also show how many people thought this deal was so good they had to purchase one.

If I wanted to buy a camera for example and camera A had 100 brought votes and camera B had 10 brought votes, I'd have confidence in buying camera A (a bit like buying on eBay, I'd be more likely to buy from the seller with 100% positive feedback than the one with 92.9% feedback).

The only difference is my brought button is an extra easy to see piece of information which saves the user having to read all reviews to make their mind up.

Instead of a like button maybe how many people and who voted ?

Isn't this the hot vs cold button.

I think it needs more stats than just hot vs cold such as how many voted and how many brought the item and maybe even more data such as age group who brought and males vs females incase people are looking for Birthday / Christmas gifts and are wondering who purchased the item.

You just contridicted yourself - saying isn't this the hot v cold button then repeating what i said  The hot vs cold button doesn't show how many people voted (read above)

And not to be rude its bought to brought

Sorry I have typing dyslexia and don't always read what I have written.
It would be great to have a more ebay style system of details about what people think about a deal as this would be visually more easier for people to make their own minds up on whether it's a good buy or not. Maybe even having a comparison link to other deals or similar deals would be helpful.

yes but many people forget that although trouble seems to follow me around - I have posted many good deals, thats why my power is high.

If not enough important people are online to make a deal hot, tough. Trust me, as I clearly am important - the system is pretty good.

I suspect my importance will actually be raised.

The rep system is no friend of mine - I don't get much rep because I'm not a bored middle aged housewife playing games in misc.

Generally I get rep when I produce a good insult and made people laugh.

its more difficult to insult well, than - for example - continuing a three word story and rep trading to get the sad gits through their day.

Insulting well takes real skill ya know!

so you think insulting people is of more benefit to a community than helping people out then or just being nice, cheering people up.......

personally i think it takes a mix of all sorts to make the world go around and nobody is more important than the next person on a shopping website im afraid:)

regardless of ego and self importance

There is a thanks mod that can be plugged into vbulletin software which is similar to the like feature on facebook. Off topic I know but I wish facebook had a dislike link as well. :)
